Hi! Are you ok if I include your mod as a requirement/dependency in a large portrait patch (still requiring users of the patch to subscribe to your mod) but modifying some files to include the portraits in the default Paradox categories?

Have had this thought LostReaper mentioned also - if there's an option, would it be possible to add an extra Geth cathegory to add them as sub species to an empire? Would be an immersive thing to have Quarians and Geth united for instance. ;)

Wanted to make so, but then i have to replace the original game files and this mod will not be compatible with others. Unfortunately custom portraits replaces original ones

The 1.8.1 hotfix was released and it changed the way custom species work. It uses some kind of tag system now.

I've started a game with these portraits. Strangely enough, they are counted as machines, yet they also grow based on food. Not sure if that was done on purpose or not.
