Incredible power fantasy. It gives you tedium, then just before that gets stale, it gives you something to beat that tedium. You'd never guess from the first 3 hours of gameplay that this is a game with boss battles better than Metal Gear Solid, but by god it is. And yet, it never lets go of the cargo management aspect. You'll be taking active gunfire whilst hiding behind cover and your main concern will be if your load's balanced enough for you to sprint over and beat the ♥♥♥♥ out of that guy, and which pieces of luggage you're comfortable leaving on the ground and which you can sacrifice to fling and dome that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Probably the best Spider Man game, the best rocket-powered Shadow of the Colossus, the best Sonic game. You're your own worst enemy, or rather, your lust for speed is. The game isn't exactly difficult; if you were to go slower, it would be easy. I suspect a boardless run is possible, dragging your butt on the ground across the entire game, but that would be downright torture to consider.

I have a combo so broken, I am attempting to spawn 28 bees a second, and because one was created behind m y leader, that bee is trying to spawn 28 bees a second and is now a leader, and because a bee was created behind that bee, it is trying

and all of these bees are trying to push each other out of the way. It is currently taking 45 seconds per second, in an event with no enemy. This mining event auto-completes after 4 minutes of game time. I have been here for a half hour.

It's like they listened to the HL2 developer commentaries, except it's just the one node about making your maps wrap back on themselves with recognizable landmarks, so the player can feel a sense of progress. You're basically seeing all the test chambers three times: some preview from before the door, the chamber, and then a walk-past once you're done from higher up.

Oh my god, this is the smuggest clown I have ever had the pleasure of shredding to pieces. What an awful, smug, oversized honkface. You get to kill it. Buy this game and kill this smug clown with me. I'm playing this again just to kill more of these smug clowns.
edit: there's a smugger clown

A remaster of the tracks you'll hear incidentally in the hit game Ctrl-Alt-Ego, where they were designed to be background noise you wouldn't mind being blown out by the thousand-object Fault chain explosions rattling everything that dared to not be you, to be digested in tiny snippets as you jump into that Life Saver for all of a half second to hit save and quickly jump back out, but are now remastered to be something Chris could fall in love with again, to be heard with your entire consciousness! What an amazing album, practically a worthy sequel to the game rather than a side-board audio rip.

Track 3 BUG specifically reloaded my consciousness to 1995, when my three-year-old ego was experiencing Parallax's Descent for the first time. The deep moodiness of impossible paradigms, the notion that up is not "up" mirroring the insights of this game where Bug 22 is not You... And track 07 Life Saver, what a happy bounce that almost makes me wish I'd "wasted" a bit more time in the save points to just hang around.

Even ignoring the direct emotional attachment to the game that changed my 2022, these tracks are solid bangers. Track 09 DAD in particular has already cemented itself as my new obsession.
