I'm not even having fun anymore but am strangely compelled to see what's behind the last corners. It probably won't be worth it.

Not "difficult" as in challenging just unforgiving and uncommunicative in it's learning curve.

EDIT 2019: Maybe this is better with DLC, but after completing the final level, what an absolute let down. Overhyped narrator, overhyped story, just a game that tries to annoy for the sake of meme. In a word, pretentious. All the questing, all the building, all the grinding, all the outfitting to have an ending just go "splat" with nothing interesting or worthwhile behind it.

Tread lightly. Online is an insanely lobsided pay for play experience. We'll likely never see a single player expansion due to the milking of online.

Reading anything about this game before you play it completely ruins the experience. That being said, it's a heartfelt tribute to old school gaming with a giant cup of Earthbound stirred in; but the hype/fanbase is hilarious and the game isn't nearly as charming in sections as everybody makes it out to be.

Quintessential roguelike that, with DLC, straddles that line of "too much" like a bad relationship. Generally recommended, but with some caveats:

It's a shame workshop support is tied with some of the WORST item upgrades and additions (Afterbirth+) and is almost never on any type of worthwhile sale. And it's an even bigger shame that the developer is a complete nozzle of a human being outside of his "art" and even with his own "art" to the point of ridicule.

Edmund "and crew" have destroyed this game over the years with additional DLC being contrived "game changing" (read: a developer getting upset that people broke his broken game) items and maybe a mode change and new character that probably took all of 20 seconds to draw. Instead of innovating, they chose pandering. And now, you buy a game and have to spend $35+ on DLC only to be MORE disappointed with the product. Requiring a $10+ DLC just to "show character stats" on the side, for example, is one of the most asinine things I have ever seen a developer do outside of Payday 2's "Grenades are DLC"

Every addition that has been made feels more and more like the base game and brains came from somewhere else. "Did you like greed mode? Try GREEDIER mode!" "Did you like hard mode? Try HARDESTEST MODE!" "Did you like the VROOM VROOM lazer? Try the new tearchainsaw it goes CHHHHAWWWWWW"

We get it, so funny, ex dee, you're such a good developer. That's why you disable mods for people who don't buy certain expansions, because you're such a good and funny developer.

WOULD YOU KINDLY NOT RANDOMLY CRASH AND COMPLETELY ERASE MY SETTINGS AND PROGRESS.

EDIT: I received this for free because I've owned the games and DLC for some time. I totally forgot how terrible the last boss is done in this game and remember why I couldn't remember the second half. Beware if you're trying to get the difficulty achievement, a single crash will reset your settings, including the difficulty.
