The original marines have so much personality. All the original sounds are vastly superior. Thanks so much its unplayable without this. GO, RECON!
TCMOREIRA 29 Sep, 2023 @ 8:25pm
To the author: There's a HL1 project which managed to remaster all HL1 audio files in pristine quality. I imagine that could help.

Orange Juice 20 Sep, 2022 @ 10:18pm
also any chance you could use the hl2 death noises instead of the combine deaths
Orange Juice 20 Sep, 2022 @ 8:46pm
thank god the bm hecu voices are not nearly as threatening thanks
KPH  [author] 7 Aug, 2022 @ 11:25pm
@dualfallen I´ve cleaned all audio-files from noise and turned them into 44 kHz. There´s a huge downside to this as the very low-quality files lose a lot of data which I´ve tried to compensate. There´s going to be an overhaul this fall. The walkie-talkie effect is not part of this mod.
dualfallen 29 Jul, 2022 @ 3:53am
It looks like the voices are heavily edited which do work well. Do you think you could quickly walk me through how to recreate that through audio-editing? I know there's the walkie-talkie noise but there also seems to be a general filter over it.
I'd like to replace the combine sounds with the Half Life 1 pain sounds but if I bring it in as is there won't be the sound filter that the other lines have and so they'd stick out.
Finnick 14 Jul, 2022 @ 12:32pm
Man, well done!
I've been looking all over for a mod like that!
Few criticisms I will give is that I am not a fan of their death sound being reused Combine from HL2 and the constant walkie talkie sound being oddly similar to 911 operator I find it a bit distracting.
I think it's a bit fair to mention that the captions do not match their lines but that may seem like too much, no judge there.
And that's about it, overall your work is wonderful!
Zoltan 16 May, 2022 @ 8:52am
@Selous how did you do it? its a vpk file, i have no idea how to replace files in gcfscape
Old Dirty Bastard 28 Jan, 2022 @ 10:19pm
Hey bud, I made the HECU HL1 voice pack for the freeware version of BM back in the day. Still have the files if it's any help. DM if interested.
renegade 6 Aug, 2021 @ 3:05am
i think workshop is fixed the INSTRUCTIONS is useless now
lilalur 25 Jul, 2021 @ 2:36pm
This made all marine encounters so much better than the lame human voice. Dont know whats up with the make the enemies less threatening.
Combine 27 Apr, 2021 @ 11:24pm
@KPH, yes. Everything. All the scripts so it's a complete return to OG halflife for the HECU. Radio chatter as well as scripted scenes. For example, the "Who is this guy, Freeman?" line.
KPH  [author] 27 Apr, 2021 @ 10:37pm
@Combine: You mean voiceline scripts?
Combine 27 Apr, 2021 @ 5:03pm
@selous. Very nice. Steps? :)
Selous 27 Apr, 2021 @ 4:05pm
@Combine
I just replaced all of the pain and death line soundfiles with their counterparts from HL1, worked pretty well.
Combine 27 Apr, 2021 @ 9:08am
Thanks KPH. I've actually gotten used to the combine voices for now, lol. And your Mod here is the closest I can find to the original HECU voices! I'll enjoy for now. Would you consider a full nostalgic Mod in future to have 100% original scripts?
KPH  [author] 27 Apr, 2021 @ 8:11am
@Combine: I might remove the HL2 combine voices at some point. I´m taking a little break from these mods and let the dust settle before making updates.
Combine 21 Apr, 2021 @ 4:56am
Selous, how did you do it? Could you list some steps for me!? Thanks so much.
Combine 21 Apr, 2021 @ 4:53am
Just subscribed. So happy someone did the original HECU lines! The Black Mesa ones sucked. This is the raw, inhuman radio voices that make the HECU sound formidable. Has anyone figured out how to fix the HL2 COmbine audio please?
Selous 13 Mar, 2021 @ 4:23am
Well, since you didn't want to, or didn't have the time to, I went and replaced all of the hg_hurt and hg_pain sounds with the respective sound effects from Half Life 1, and it works surprisingly well.
If you own HL1 you can access the appropriate sound files in steamapps>common>half life>valve>sound>hgrunt
Jackofallasses 13 Jan, 2021 @ 9:54am
I don't like the HL2 combine audio either. doesn't work at all
Selous 31 Dec, 2020 @ 6:11am
yeah I dunno why you added the HL2 Combine pain sound effects to them they stick out like a sore thumb
Desperado 27 Dec, 2020 @ 2:37pm
Love the classic HECU lines, not a fan of the HL2 combine audio
ChickenChucker96 9 Aug, 2020 @ 12:09pm
can someone make a mod from gmod or hl2 that makes combine sound like the hl1 hecu?
KPH  [author] 6 Aug, 2020 @ 10:53pm
So, it seems that I had already made the change, I just forgot to update it in Workshop. Should work fine now.
Melperto 6 Aug, 2020 @ 5:45pm
*newer updates
Melperto 6 Aug, 2020 @ 5:45pm
so the problem was that never updates added a new folder on the hecu_grunt directory , the npc sounds should be place now under : sound>vo>npc>hecu_grunt>male
Raptor 5 Aug, 2020 @ 12:20pm
ok, so in what was the problem?
Melperto 5 Aug, 2020 @ 11:37am
Yeah I got them fixed
Raptor 5 Aug, 2020 @ 11:34am
khypypio, the same issue - still doesn't work.
Melperto 5 Aug, 2020 @ 11:33am
I think I just fixed them myself , PM and I will tell you what was wrong so you can update it
Melperto 5 Aug, 2020 @ 11:25am
I have to insist , they dont work at all , and yes I did the gameinfo custom folder thing
KPH  [author] 30 Jul, 2020 @ 2:48am
❤Ellie❤: I just tested it, it works fine. Have you re-edited the gameinfo.txt since the 1.0 update? If not, do that.
Melperto 29 Jul, 2020 @ 4:18pm
dude this is broken lol it always has been since 1.0
Pyromaniax 29 Jul, 2020 @ 10:51am
MY ASS IS HEAVY
KPH  [author] 22 Jun, 2020 @ 12:19am
@Mason: Right. Well, it should work fine afaik.
Mason 21 Jun, 2020 @ 1:40pm
@khyypio
1.0 probably
I haven't checked, I just wrote as a precaution since 1.0 released a while back and this may have broken. If not ignore this.
KPH  [author] 21 Jun, 2020 @ 7:27am
How is it broken?
Mason 18 Jun, 2020 @ 1:40pm
please fix this
Wildshot 13 Mar, 2020 @ 7:19am
this is broke pls fix
Gando 8 Mar, 2020 @ 7:31pm
1.0 seems to have given them their idle sounds back, unfortunately it seems this mod among many others is now broken
Gando 5 Jan, 2020 @ 10:38am
they seem to be missing their idle sounds. or at least not playing them properly not sure if its a mod problem or a black mesa problem. they were much more chatty in Half-Life and it alerted you if they were nearby it seemed
Gando 5 Jan, 2020 @ 9:48am
thank god for this mod. new voices suck
President N U T 7 Jul, 2019 @ 9:14pm
all i can say now is you basically turned black mesa into just a graffical over-hall of half-life
(⭐⭐⭐) ThreeStarGeneral 20 Sep, 2018 @ 5:40am

sasuke100 23 May, 2018 @ 2:28am
Does your mod include https://sp.zhabite.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=452494566&searchtext= or you have it already on your mod?
Trog 22 Apr, 2018 @ 12:35pm
