Actually, for a second I wasn't even sure that Aela even admitted that you did help them. I once fired a killing shot at the Giant with my crossbow (got the killcam and everything, so I know it was my shot), I went over tehre, Aela bitched at me for not helping.

I felt like saying, "Bitch please! You don't us crossbows. What's this in between his eyes? MY CROSSBOW BOLT!"

Sorry about the rant. But yeah, I'd like some confirmation that Aela will actually recognize that you fought it, if indeed you do.

@soldier: I can't do anything to alter spawning I'm afraid. As soon as the character is loaded (depending on your view distance) their AI is enabled, and the fighting begins.

That doesn't mean that such a modification is impossible with scripts that check you reach a certain added point - just that I am not confident in doing it, and even were I, I don't like scripts running in the background 'waiting' for you to perform an action. It's.... sloppy. And if enough mods use them, you get save game bloat and slowed performance.

(Plus you'd probably see the giant and Companions appear out of nowhere anyway, which is even more ridiculous than the vanilla giant made of cotton candy.)

I actually think this is a genious idea. I've always thought Bethesda needed to fix this because it is not possible to get to the giant and slay it without being a high level, sprinting, and having specific perks, and planning ahead, as well as that the battle starts before you even get within seeing distance of them (the battle tends to start for me not long after I cross the bridge by Riverwood! WTF!)
Anyways, this is a great idea, but it would be a better idea to merely spawn the giant once the player is near the general area the giant is at. Maybe it should spawn when you pass the HoningBrew Meadery?

IM not really worried about the compainions being smart with me, but this mod is a good fix I agree, i dont feel like jumping through hoops for them as alowbie character. That and im sure for anyone thats a first timer for Skyrim would never even see the fighting happening until receiving ridicual for a fight that wasnt theirs. Props

Sorry, when I said "the giant was too hardy" I meant not hardy ENOUGH: ie the Companions still took it down rapidly.

Oh it is definitely possible to get it, but for me it required a lot of quick-loads, sprinting, quick-drawing my bow and luck.
As for setting it to Master, I tried that a couple times as soon as the giant was visible only to be jumped by wolves or turned inside out by mysteriously hostile Legionaries - and even when I managed to get past them, the giant was still too hardy to get close enough for melee.

It's and role-playing game, and it doesn't seem right that a character has to choose between switching to a weapon they've scarcely ever handled, or being accused of gawking without the chance to say "the whole thing was over too fast".

Difficulty set to master fixes the problem descirbed above as well, but it's pretty fun to move him and resurrect him elsewhere to make for an interesting fight. Nice work.

On MY compter at least it renders when you're still on the trail from Riverwood overlooking the city; I can see it clearly (though it's just standing there when you're at that distance; it doesn't move until you get closer). Like the previous poster says, I just sprint there (taking the more direct route instead of sticking to the trail) and start whaling on it as soon as I get close enough. It's so preoccupied with the others that it's actually an easy kill.

what you have*

actually, you are able to help them. what you kave to do is sprint over, have a bow equipped and have the perk that lets you walk fast and shoot, and if you hit it, she will congradulate you. i did it once, and i was suprised at my timing and that i got it dead. but you can help in killing it.
