I didn't realize it was outdated. Hopefully you work on it again. It's a nice idea.
ShadowDragon8685  [author] 17 Jun, 2022 @ 3:17pm
@Jedipony1 this mod is four years and a huge number of updates, major game revamps, and DLCs old. It almost certainly will not work anymore, with or without any other mod.

That having been said, it would almost certainly not have worked perfectly with a mod that adds more star types, because of how it was implemented. The new star types would have had no entries in this mod's data, and so they would have been untouched.
Jedipony1 17 Jun, 2022 @ 9:37am
Would this work with More Star Types?
ShadowDragon8685  [author] 14 Jun, 2021 @ 6:04am
It will almost certainly not work, since this mod is for a very, very, very old version of Stellaris. If you are using one of those very, very, very old versions that it worked with, you will have to start a new game because it does its work by modifying galaxy generation, so nothing will happen if you enable it post-generation.
Sciggster 13 Jun, 2021 @ 11:06am
If i enable this mod mid game will it change anything or do I have to start another game?
冷酷な悪魔 15 Apr, 2021 @ 11:23am
Many Thanks ShadowDragon8685!

If you're a modder at all, it shouldn't be difficult for you to reverse-engineer what I did with this mod. While I understand that Paradox have changed some things about galaxy generation between then and now, I don't imagine the fundamentals have changed TOO too much, so you should be able to easily-enough figure out what I did and do something similar.

Good luck.

I create mods for the Total War community. I later realized I better stay where I'm king. Reading through pages of this comment section became very apparent that this mod is unloved. I don't know if I'll be able to replicate something similar or totally different for that matter. I'll give it a go anyway.

Loaded up the game all excited as it were and my face dropped when it didn't work. Thought I'd share some love for the idea at least...
ShadowDragon8685  [author] 14 Apr, 2021 @ 10:48am
Er... You're welcome.
This mod is hideously out-of-date, you know that, right? Or are you playing a really, really old edition of Stellaris?
冷酷な悪魔 13 Apr, 2021 @ 2:07pm
Thank you Thank you Thank you! :steamhappy:

Save data, hell, I proved it myself. Took "his" mod apart and opened it up side-by-side with my mod in Notepad++. It was literally my mod , with my comments and my unique identifier tags (instead of just "star_brown_deposit" it was "sd_star_brown_deposit", etc,) still in, he'd just changed numbers he thought were too high, then released it calling it "Stellar Energy: Balanced".
chill1ray 2 Nov, 2020 @ 7:22pm
wow no that is so messed up they would have all the save data with dates that would show your mod was older then the knock-off's !!!
ShadowDragon8685  [author] 2 Nov, 2020 @ 7:10pm
I got tired of trying to mod a moving target, and having my own games break constantly. I also got pissed when that jerkass ripped off this mod, blatantly so, and when I did the "right" thing by asking him to take it down, etc, he and a bunch of goons jumped on me with a literally incorrect interpretation of intellectual property laws, and when I reached out to Paradox, in clear contravention of their own stated rules they decided to do nothing.

I just lost interest in Stellaris, basically. Sorry.
chill1ray 2 Nov, 2020 @ 7:00pm
lol sorry did not see it! just got excited and posted here!
ShadowDragon8685  [author] 2 Nov, 2020 @ 6:46pm
chill1ray, I am not. I have not installed Stellaris in years, as you likely would know if you had read my response to FortunateHost, dating 24 July.
chill1ray 2 Nov, 2020 @ 6:42pm
Are you still current? Because I need your mod in my life!!!
ShadowDragon8685  [author] 24 Jul, 2020 @ 10:39am
This mod is incredibly old and probably doesn't work on its own anymore. That having been said, it would not be very compatible with any mods that add star classes.
FortuneHost 23 Jul, 2020 @ 10:27am
How compatible is this with Real Space? Since it adds additional star classes. Are some of the stars going to be unworkable?
ShadowDragon8685  [author] 20 Mar, 2020 @ 8:22am
If you liked Stellar Energy, feel free to make your own mod that does something similar, but call it something unique and don't use any of my files.
falhxer 20 Mar, 2020 @ 4:48am
i still remember the good times, aaah, before the bs updates, but now looks like stellaris is back on track, itll be great if you update, but if you dont plan, can i update it? Of course with credits to the original one.
ShadowDragon8685  [author] 14 Mar, 2020 @ 2:23pm
Thank you. I appreciate that. I'm actually gobsmacked anyone is still reading this. But thank you.
32454trdfsg34 14 Mar, 2020 @ 9:37am
this mod was way ahead of its time.
ShadowDragon8685  [author] 21 May, 2019 @ 4:20am
It's been a long, long time. I'm honestly no longer sure.
Lucius 20 May, 2019 @ 5:47am
how do i check the files? But thanks and will do!
ShadowDragon8685  [author] 20 May, 2019 @ 1:18am
I'd rather you made your own. Feel free to poke around in the files of mine to see how I did it, though. Assuming that energy deposits are still defined onto bodies at galaxy generation, you're going to be looking into the galaxy generation files. To avoid making incompatibilities with other potential mods that modify core files, what I did was I made my own, works-alongside-vanilla defines for galaxy generation and just gave my stuff SO MUCH WEIGHTING that it was VERY IMPROBABLE that a vanilla drop would be used instead of one of mine.
Lucius 19 May, 2019 @ 9:51am
Bummer. Was wondering then if I can possibly update it then? (I have zero experience with this) But i would so do it!
ShadowDragon8685  [author] 19 May, 2019 @ 7:41am
@Lucius: I am sorry, there's no chance. Too much time has passed, way too many changes.

Frankly I got tired of trying to constantly mod a moving target.
Lucius 19 May, 2019 @ 7:22am
Does this mod still work with new updates?
Gryphonheart 9 Jan, 2019 @ 10:53pm

I've made a mod for 2.2 Not as much energy as this mod had originally, but it works. Stars only tho, no gas giants or anything. I mentionned you ShadowDragon8685. I don't know how to link to other ppl or anything so I hope that's okay.

And I hope you don't mind that I made that mod. Since you said you don't play anymore, I figured you wouldn't mind.
Gryphonheart 9 Jan, 2019 @ 9:42pm
Well, the game started.. but out of 11 stars, only 1 had energy, so yeah... this doesn't work anymore unfortunately.
Gryphonheart 9 Jan, 2019 @ 9:35pm
Considering that terraforming gases don't exist anymore, I think, that might bug the mod. I'm attempting to launch a game with only energy from stars and no mod to gas giants.. we'll see if it works
D1Z4STR 8 Dec, 2018 @ 12:47pm
Still working in 2.2?
Tal'Raziid 30 Oct, 2018 @ 7:39am
:( sad day, this mod is really nice. TBQH i just ignore the fools demanding you 'fix' the mod for the version number,
ShadowDragon8685  [author] 30 Oct, 2018 @ 4:29am
@Tal'Raziid: honestly, I got tired of Stellaris. PDX updates continually break mods, even if the only thing broken is a version number, and ten thousand people (hyperbolically) demand you "fix the mod" when the only thing that's wrong with it is Stellaris's launcher screaming at them. That, and Stellaris keeps getting more and more resource intensive and my potato PC isn't getting any newer makes even launching Stellaris a challenge these days.

Anyway, honestly, I don't even know WHAT they did to break Stellar Energy, it must've involved messing with the galaxy generation somehow, bug I'm buggered if I know how.
Tal'Raziid 29 Oct, 2018 @ 9:25pm
Will this be updated for 2.2? 👀
If no, how do I make it yes.
If yes, thank you 1000 times over!
L 29 Oct, 2018 @ 6:47pm
this mod needs a update
ShadowDragon8685  [author] 14 Sep, 2018 @ 10:55pm
Awh triple bollocks. That means it's either conflicting somehow with another mod, or PDX changed galaxy generation.
Doctor Enigma 14 Sep, 2018 @ 1:13pm
Yes as soon as i removed it things worked again
ShadowDragon8685  [author] 12 Sep, 2018 @ 8:39pm
Awh bollocks. @NuclearNIX you're 100% sure it's Stellar Energy?
Doctor Enigma 12 Sep, 2018 @ 5:45pm
i just crashed trying to load it
Doctor Enigma 12 Sep, 2018 @ 5:43pm
um @ShadowDragon8685 it no longer works on 2.1.3
BorisTheAnimal 27 Apr, 2018 @ 12:36pm
finally a mod thats not shy about making stars and gas giants true to their real counterparts just because of balance! i have a feeling i will have fun with this mod!
Tal'Raziid 24 Apr, 2018 @ 9:55am
Hasn’t been changed to be ‘up to date’ because it’s one number, and the author isn’t redownloading Stellaris just to make the one number change
arthour05 24 Apr, 2018 @ 9:13am
I was wondering if this mod will be updated for 2.0, since it keeps coming up in the mod list as out of date? I don't suppose it would really make a difference either way, but I was just wondering if there was any paticular reason it hadn't been updated recently? :D
ShadowDragon8685  [author] 18 Mar, 2018 @ 8:14pm
If it's not working, and PDX haven't changed the galaxy generation or deposits file format, one of the following is (most likely) the problem:

1] You're trying to apply Stellar Energy to an existing game. Sorry, but it only affects NEW GALAXIES. Start a new game. (I know, it's painful.)

2a] You have another mod which changes galaxy generation. Stellar Energy SHOULD WORK with other mods that change deposits (as long as they don't use identical deposit drop keys, which they shouldn't unless the other mod literally ripped mine off because I use my handle as a unique identifier,) and will PARTIALLY WORK with other mods that ADD new stars/gas giants, in that it will still drop Stellar Energy deposits upon vanilla bodies but WILL NOT drop them upon new ones.
ShadowDragon8685  [author] 18 Mar, 2018 @ 8:14pm
2b] You have another mod which RADICALLY changes galaxy generation, to the tune of REMOVING vanilla bodies from the game. This will either cause SE to do nothing (if they modified galgen to simply not place vanilla bodies, but keep them in-data,) or could cause crashes (if they modified the game files to REMOVE the vanilla planets altogether, which would require modifying PDX files entirely.)
facciola007 18 Mar, 2018 @ 3:06pm
Works fine as always thanks for the cool mod!
Synthesis 18 Mar, 2018 @ 1:35pm
@Zenithas Not working for me either, but I'm not getting crashes--I think it might be conflicting with Real Space or something similar, though it didn't previously. Always one of my must-have mods, but it's understandable if the creator has moved on to better things.
Sam 11 Mar, 2018 @ 11:21am
sorry i did not see it
Tal'Raziid 11 Mar, 2018 @ 10:58am
@Sam
Please dont come in asking for updates, when a few comments down, you coulda read and realized that it still works, the mod author merely isnt going to all the trouble to change a single number around.
