Personally I loved it. The added areas and puzzles were really cool although the number of vortigaunts and turrets was frustrating. The sniper wasn't out of place as some people are saying (there are snipers all over Black Mesa it's just something you gotta get used to) but there was no way of killing him without using cheats to get the rpg.

i hope this gets updated

I can not start the Mod.

This mod could use an update. Although one will never come.

It does feel different design-wise from the regular BM level design policy. It has too many useless side paths and offices that don't add much, the outside section at the end is bloated and filled with too many enemies and empty space between. The sniper section felt out of place and too difficult to deal with due to the large size of the area it covers.

The textures and graphics in the Uncut maps are a noticeable downgrade from the vanilla On a Rail maps.

As for lengthening the chapter and adding the missing maps and sections, it succeeds. But it isn't of the high quality i was hoping for.
It also clashes tonally and gameplay-wise with the final Black Mesa product if you intend to play the game from start to finish with the Uncut maps added.

I switched to public beta and OaRUncut is gone and then I unsubscribed and resubscribed but nothing changed?

How do I remove it from the main campaign when I just want to play the base game?

@Hauker~ Just because it's realistic that doesn't automatically make it fun to play

This mod is so fucking great. It was so seamless and really added alot of depth to On A Rail. They really did a good job.

I'm clearly in the minority here, but I think this mod is nearly perfect as-is. It just needs a bit of polish to clean up a few missing textures, and the snipers in the trainyard are unkillable without using noclip. Other than that, fantastic work, and I still hope it may one day get that little bit of extra attention to qualify as finished.

Keeps crashing when I try to run it

Pretty good but that large outdoor segment at the end felt a bit sloppy. Otherwise, I loved the detailed office and security areas.

Honestly this mod is pretty good, but parts of the inside areas and outside areas could've been tweaked. Especially the part where the cart goes outside and gets stormed by two grunts with an artillery gun, and also the later parts; not a lot of space for the player to duck, or hide. It's a bit too open.
Serge Ivanov 9 Jul, 2024 @ 10:31pm
The issue is still there with the train car disappearing. On the map where you go to raise the rocket it's just gone, and you still need to noclip, this needs to be fixed.
Tapferer Toaster 3 Jun, 2024 @ 9:08am
I just played through this on Hard, for my taste there wasnt enough health placed throughout the map, i found myself having more armour than HP
chromebook_gaming 22 May, 2024 @ 9:42pm
it's cool to re-live the levels but overall I agree with their decision to cut this segment. It's clunky and just way too long
SKOkirill201 15 May, 2024 @ 9:39pm
will i get achievements with this?
ChilLeR 5 May, 2024 @ 5:41pm
Not working anymore.
Painevan 15 Apr, 2024 @ 6:58pm
Really fun to play for the first time. Then after that you realize why these maps were cut. I'd recommend playing these after beating Black Mesa normally, as this has a large difficulty spike and very confusing layout, even if *somewhat* better than the original On A Rail in Half Life.
Hecatomb 21 Mar, 2024 @ 5:51pm
This was always my favorite chapter in the original game. Navigating those narrow tunnels deep underground was appropriately oppressive and claustrophobic, and it had an almost perfect blend of alien and marine enemies. Launching the rocket was a triumphant moment, the first real victory since reaching the surface in We've Got Hostiles. This mod elevates this chapter to the same pinnacle of achievement as the rest of the game. I would love to see it finished some day. :bms_crowbar:

Would normally recommend this mod but there is a level when you have to disable rail security and what happens if you forget the rail car is it glitches out. You can't cross the electrified beams and the door will not open causing you to have to noclip through. So that was a real pissoff.
skunkegg9 11 Feb, 2024 @ 8:14am
Shit man, this is awesome. On a Rail was annoying as hell but really fun at the same time. Tons of stuff going on at once ya know? Glad to see this exists.

I've never been so happy to see the worst level ever
patricksubs 7 Jan, 2024 @ 9:43am
I completed the definitive edition of BM before playing through "the definitive OaR" mod. I only experienced an issue on the last map, the one where Gordon launches the rocket carrying the satellite. Loading any saves, quick or normal, resulted in the AI being disabled (this came up as an "AI disabled" message on the screen). Restarting the game did not solve this. As I had already completed this map during my original play-through, I didn't investigate a solution. Other than this (critical) error, the mod is a functional addition to the base BM game.
patricksubs 7 Jan, 2024 @ 9:43am
Well done on a brilliant remake/upgrade, even if it's only 60%.Although I understand the pov of the BM devs in slashing OaR, the changes go way further than simple alterations. I think that there should be a prominent notice on the game's Steam homepage, stating how much and why OaR has been cut, and advising players to subscribe to ""OaR uncut or "the definitive OaR", if they want something close to the original experience. Or the mod is incorporated, as an option, into the main game.

On a rail isn't bad, people just forget to use the trams parking brake.

@ademonlikeyou its because it drags on so long past its due date that it just seems like its stretched out to pad out game time, if it was shortened / cut like black mesa was it would probably work better
Infomaniac 10 Sep, 2023 @ 5:27pm
why
ademonlikeyou 2 Sep, 2023 @ 2:20am
I finished on a rail in like 30 min on my blind playthrough of og half life. I thought the rail was a lot of fun and lead to fun encounters with enemies. Only when i went online did I find out its so seriously hated, for seemingly no reason. Its super fun and a great level, people are braindead if they cant figure it out lol
stinker 24 Jun, 2023 @ 1:38pm
they cut it for a reason

Fuyuno 2 May, 2023 @ 12:17pm
any official news on this being added to BM?
Johnny Brown 1 May, 2023 @ 3:37pm
There's still a softlock if you leave the tram on A1. When you load into A2 the door behind just shuts and you have no access to a tram which is required to proceed to the next level.
SH0D4N 11 Apr, 2023 @ 7:27am
why?
Master Ballcock 15 Jan, 2023 @ 9:56pm
@polech It works via chapter select, however since these maps are added in-between vanilla ones and spread throughout the chapter, you have to play through the first vanilla map of OaR before you get to any of the new ones. You can also load custom maps you've subscribed to in the "Workshop" section of the main menu
Polech 14 Jan, 2023 @ 2:29pm
Do I have to load it using console or it works via chapter selection menu? If the first one, is there any way to add it in that menu or any other custom map?
LarrySBM 6 Jan, 2023 @ 7:00am
you're actually a masochist if you want to put this in your game
Theplayerthatexists 27 Dec, 2022 @ 5:21pm
What is ST uncut?
AtGeM 20 Dec, 2022 @ 8:01pm
OARU will be updated in future?
Master Ballcock 1 Dec, 2022 @ 4:49pm
@VHsigil These maps should be added immediately to the normal OAR campaign once you subscribe to it and it downloads. The maps are added between the vanilla ones and you just have to go through at least the first map before you see any of the ones this adds.

If by "replace" you mean completely remove vanilla OAR and use only the maps this mod normally adds, I'm afraid that's not how map transitions work.
VHsigil 29 Nov, 2022 @ 1:57pm
Is there a way to make this replace the vanilla On A Rail during the campaign
CaptainofPie 25 Nov, 2022 @ 4:29pm
@Downchillin Surface Tension Uncut is apart of the main campaign, and has been for awhile now
Peter Brev 20 Nov, 2022 @ 7:33am
Surface Tension Uncut is already part of the main campaign.
