I recommend you play Ultimate Expanded Field Command instead. It's basically the same mod, but less files and more cohesive.

This mod is defunct.

For some reason land battles keep crashing. I can't figure out why. Sea battles and the campaign are fine, but land battles crash as soon as I hit the load screen.

any tips for playing portugal? i seem to be doing fine in economy but not enough to field an army big enough to compete with other factions that took most of kyushu

I think you overlooked chosokabe's exclusive yumi samurai when balancing. Now they co-exist with the balanced ordinary yumi Samurai, and the data has hardly changed. The recruitment time is only 2 rounds instead of 4 rounds.

Also instead of deleting starting army of portugal can you instead change the starting army of portugal?

@SuripuWakeru Okay last change for awhile. I made Besteiros cost 350 to recruit and 110 upkeep. The best way I found to play Portugal so far is to delete your starting army, or at least most of it, and go full economy, rush to get boats on trade routes. Watch out though, the Japanese can beat you to the trade routes! Then take islands like Tanegashima and Tsushima with your first army, especially the island Amako is on, as that trade node is Warhorses. I am on turn 110+ though.

I play with the 1.5x mod on, so that initial starting army will be gimped, might as well save the money.

I am close to releasing a version (save compatible) that is one file combining these mods and files into one. I just have to get the presentation screenshots and graphics squared away. Need to milk that time on the Recent tab. ;)

Teppo Sengoku Bune turns out to be not much better than the regular one against Caravels. The Teppo Ataka and Teppo Nihon ships work well because of the elevated position for the shooters. The main tactic against Portugal, besides cannons, is fire arrows.



Fuwuvi's AIO mod adds a bunch of mercenary ashigaru. I could either add those, with slightly higher upkeep, or I could just lower the Besteiros to militia level upkeep. The word means Hunters, and they kinda suck anyway.


I am playtesting morale changes for land battles. Basically, making units fight longer and cascade break less. This is supposed to be challenging! The battle AI is not that bad in S2. Dynasties man, worst battle AI eeevvveerrr. Great game but the battle AI just blobs.

Or even easier, instead of creating a unit from scratch. Place Ahigaru Mercenaries with Crossbows or Arquebuses with slightly higher maintenance than the Japanese versions.

@Lenny_Froggins Yes, I think that improves it a bit. On the ground side, it's possible to add it later, of course. Militia Musketeers or Light Crossbowmen? For TIER 1? Because like with Portugal, you start in the negative and armored units have high maintenance, it would help a bit. When you're surrounded by 5 armies, xD

@SuripuWakeru Because it is really quick, I just changed all the light ship matchlock kobaya to unlock with the technology "Way of the Sea."

Making new units takes a little longer, and there already is a Teppo Medium Bune: the tower bune. I may make a Teppo Sengoku Bune though to be a good option for running down and actually beating Portuguese Merchant Caraval (which are still quite powerful with 25 matchlocks)

I will think about it. I will probably raise the limit for Red Seal Ships.

Right now I am trying to collate this into one big mod file. After that, I will have a much easier job adding and changing things.

@Lenny_Froggins But wouldn't adding more of these ships increase the difficulty when playing as Portugal? I mean, using cannons to easily destroy boats with arrows is too easy. Or at least increasing the limit of 5 Red Sails ships to make fighting the Japanese more fun.

@SuripuWakeru Thank you for the feedback, but right now this is working as intended as part of the difficulty of the game, same with how Portugal starts really slow unless you immediately go on the offensive.

ADDED TWO NEW SHIPS TO THE JAPANESE

Teppo Nihon Maru and Teppo Ataka Bune. They are what they sound like.

Added flaming arrows to the regular Nihon Maru and Ataka Bune.

No idea, I didnt even know that Otomo could hire The Black Ship (different unit entirely than the Galleon you can hire that shares the same unit card).

@Lenny_Froggins The black ship recruited at Bungo Harbor by the Otomo clan. The crew's gunfire sounds work. But the cannon fire doesn't make a sound.

I just checked the files, there is no reason for the sound to have stopped. Maybe have steam validate the game files,unsub and resub to the mod?

@SuripuWakeru Unfortunately there are minor things like that which are not correct. The cannons were FOTS cannons before a week ago. :)

I dont know if I will ever try to fix the vocalizations...probably not. I also have tried tried tried and cannot figure out how to make the Portuguese generals and Merchants have fully Portuguese names.

I just installed this mod and all its add-ons, and I have the correct load order. Is it normal that my Portuguese troops still speak Japanese? Or do the units still lack the correct vocalizations?

Added New Artillery for Portugal and fixed some old issues. Game should be 99% done now. (I cannot figure out how to get Portuguese Generals and Merchants to not have Japanese last names lol I give up.)

@Scoffron I had a feeling there was something weird going on with Turn 1. Glad you got it working! Try reactivating the Campaign Remaster and put at at the top of the load order and see if it works Turn 2 and onward.

I balanced it for Legendary and 12 Turns Per Year, but it there shouldnt be that much of a difference Long vs Short campaigns. Those are more affected by the economy and stuff, and that is mostly Stock FCS (except for the Portuguese).

@Lenny_Froggins Tank you for the info, after desactivating the Campaign Remaster mod, I no longer experience crashes (except on the first turn)
This fist turn crash occur no matter what load order I have, it is the result of just the FCS + expanded japan combination. Furtunalty I can get over it.

Last question : is you compatch like FCS meant to be player on legendary + short campaign ?

@Scoffron I cant reproduce it except for something weird:

I hadnt been using the Campaign Remaster mod. I tried with that, game crashed when I clicked on the Matsudaira/Tokugawa army nearest the Oda. A-hah! That has to be it! So I turned off the Campaign Remaster: No crash. Then I turned the Campaign Remaster back on: no crash.

So this is gonna sound odd but, you can replicate the crash? Cause I dunno...try again? Also try ending your turn without clicking on another army and try then on the 2nd turn.

If you want, give me a full list of all the mods you are using when getting the crash and I can try replicating that.

--Also Fuwuvi has the load order for my FCS Compatch and Tweaks wrong. Tweaks should be between the Compatch and the stock Field Command Sengoku. But I also flipped the order and tried to replicate the crash and didnt.

@Lenny_Froggins Yes indeed when I click on the tokugawa force on first turn, there's a CTD.
I've unchecked most of the mods, I only have FCS + expanded japan.

I am not familiar with Fuwuvi's newer list, I dont use all of those mods, but I can download that whole list and try it if I know what crash I am looking for.

every time I check the tokugawa force, the game crashes, I've uncheck every mod one by one to find the problem it's seems that the combination of FOCS + expanded portugal (or japan) is the orgin of the problem

@Mooch good catch! I had forgot to update the formation spacing for the Faction Units in EJP.

Shows how important those formations are to the game engine! Shouild be fixed now.

Azai yari kumi seem to have a loose formation, melting away and giving ground when confronting regular yari kumi despite having an extra 2 melee defense over them. Of course, it's the first clan I tested too.

@Noob van Noob Since you asked nicely and it takes all of 10 minutes, of course!

Use this instead of the regular compatch file. Please lemme know that it all works, from what I could see the main override was from Field Command Sengoku so I just took all the diplo/prestige tables from EJP and plopped em in this.

Should be savegame compatible. Man I've been working on Pharaoh and the newer games lock savegames to need packfiles that dont corrupt savegames, it's obnoxious AF.

Was wondering if you could update this (or have as an optional submod for those who like the regular values) to include the realm divide/prestige values used in the Expanded Japan mod. your Tweaks mod appears to overwrite the prestige adjustment made in the expanded mod. @Band_Sat_Ria I am going to assume you already have "Rusted Pack File Manager" (RPFM) for looking into the pack files. If not, download that first.

You will find unit stats in two main places:

db > units_tables

db > unit_stats_land_tables

I hope that is the information you need! Which settings do you want to change?

excuse me mate, im new to modding things in shogun 2. i stumble upon your mod collection and i really took interest on ot. But i want to change the settings of the unit a little bit. But i dont know how to do it. I suppose i could change it through the pack files, but i cannot find it on my directory. Please tell me if you know the way to do it, thank you very much. P.S, my english is not that good, im sory if it sound rude or commanding to you
