I have the following error in Irony Mod Manager

Error at file: localisation\name_list_AVALI1_l_english.yml.
Please report this error to the author of the mod: Avali Animated Portrait 0.5.4² (for 3.12).

Error message says:

Invalid quotes detected near line: AVALI1_SHIP_SymphonyOfDespair:0 Symphony of Despair.
Invalid quotes detected near line: AVALI1_CHR_Naoli:0 Naoli.

o/ A while ago I modded this portrait to be machines but forgot how to do so, I discovered it again. In case you want machine borbs.

Follow this path: Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\281990\2807645860\common\species_classes\avali_species_classes.txt"

Click on the species classes txt file and open it in notepad

Replace the archetype from BIOLOGICAL to MACHINE

Delete the NOT{ bracket

Replace the value bracket with this: value = { auth_machine_intelligence

When done the file should look like this:

AVALI = {
archetype = MACHINE
possible = {
authority = {
value = { auth_machine_intelligence

}
}
}

portrait_modding = yes
gender = yes
graphical_culture = AVALI1
move_pop_sound_effect = "avian_pop_confirmation"

Except it's known that feathered dinosaurs such as raptors were way more similar to birds than reptiles, including being endothermic rather than ectothermic. So avali are, in fact, still more like birds than reptiles.
In fact, birds are also known as avian dinosaurs, and are the remaining dinosaurs that survived the mass extinction.

Avali are raptors. Aka Reptiles, not birds. I think its best to keep them as their own category with how some people are taking the bird meme to heart.

it would be nice to see this mod fully ironed out, as it stands there are a couple bugs and missing features, most notably the name list being coded wrong so it shows the in-file name, but also color variance, also this ones a bit out there but i think having custom megastructue models (simmilarly to machine shipset) would be neat!

Is there a way to make the portrait machines and allow them to use Machine Intelligence Authority? I tried it myself, and I only managed to break the mod.

done ... thats bullshit ... i really hate Paradox for their "Updates" because they change the game completly EVERY TIME

Thats also the reason why i dont play that game anymore since the Astral Planes DLC ...

Ok, I figured it out. It seems that something in the "species_classes" file overwrites the name. The solution I found is making a "custom" shipset: creating a "graphical_culture" file copying one already in the game (in this case, the Avian shipset), changing the nomenclature.

In the "graphical_culture" you put like this:

For some reason, the mod changes the nomenclature of the Avian shipset (from "Avian" to "Avali").

@Latio, thank you, everything worked out, I successfully changed the type to MACHINE, to be honest, I tried to do this back on May 15, but I did it in the Ironman version, but there was no such file there, now I can play with Avali in new scenarios :WhiteWolfInterset:

I'm just noticing you can't change their clothing either when set to indeterminable. Most vanilla portraits get around this by making the two gender options into phenotypes when the indeterminable option is selected, I think.

I don't know if you know or not, but you can now add portraits to vanilla species classes without doing a full overwrite, in case you wanted to put this in the Avian category like your ironman version does.

what do you mean by "the base mod" and portraits

i tested it but everything works as intended even the ironman version (yeah last time i played stellaris was november 2023 :papyruswacky:)

they simply dont appear, none of the custom avali content does, such as flags, however the actual entry appears, just none of the portraits/flags,

I only have the base avali mod, and the portraits installed, along with a few ship mods
