We are trying to solve this problem.
For now, if you experience any of mentioned issues, try downloading corrected "ugc_1699178843.mod" file:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/2pawkvhlw1nue3y/ugc_1699178843.zip?dl=1
Just drop the file into your "Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/mod" folder. Make sure to unzip the file.
You may old version of the file named "1699178843.mod" IF it still persists there, But don't forget to make a backup copy - just in case Paradox launcher starts working properly.
The only errors I get are as follows:
[portraitobject.cpp:493]: Failed to find portrait selector Avali_Neutral_1_1_1_1
[portraitobject.cpp:493]: Failed to find portrait selector Avali_Neutral_4_9_9_9
Logan 'Grey" Fox, I will support and give you permission in this mod. I've broken my promise twice already and I will continue what I started. Thanks for reigniting my will to improve this mod!
pls give Logan your permission :o
In theory, I could upload it if Blackhole32 gave permission to do so (since I had to cut their textures in order to make animations working).
A little update on animated portraits:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/2o0os2wo56qcyzc/avali_animated_portraits_v0_5.zip?dl=1
Should work with 2.7 and 2.8.
- Fixed animations of right upper ear - should bend smoother now.
- Added missing colors in addition to Red, Green & Blue (except for albino variations - there were issues with texture cutting-restoration).
- Made Leader clothes a bit more distinguishable. Same for jobs/strata (they could use some unique lore-friendly design, but I'm not an artist).
- Default Robot portrait was set to "avian type" (Avali could use their own as well).
- Male and Female colors were assigned according to lore: "Females tend to have muted, two-tone feathers, often with speckled patterns, while males have brightly coloured, iridescent bands..."
- Haircuts of military leaders were restricted to "short" ones, like in "humanoid" portraits.
Colors and Haircuts restrictions are soft-locked; one may unlock them by removing (#) comment marks in config files.
However it seems to have incompatibility stuff with some of my mods
Current "demo" features only 3 color variations and 3 haircuts (+ "no hair"). This is because I had to cut original textures in fragments, as well as "restore" hidden parts of ears and haircuts from static textures. Since I'm not very skilled in drawing and didn't have original layers/parts, I would leave this to you, guys.
Same for clothes. Ruler, Governor and Scientist clothes are ok (IMHO), but General and Admirals would look better with armor (according to lore).
And yes, clothes types do match professions.
Also I didn't make eyeball animations, as there was no eyeball ("round") texture with iris within original mod.
If you want to modify this by yourself, I put Maya source files next to the mod.

Right ears flicker. I never found what's wrong with them or what might cause the issue. If you could post it to the forum or know someone, who might help with this, that would be great.
(on ver2.2)
I just had a look at your adjustments, and let me tell you that I have tried so hard so many times to do what you've done here. It is excellent work, and really hope it can get rolled into this mod, or if permission can be granted, moved into a new mod to be more actively managed. Great job!
Did you or Aranethon have any progress in animating? I could help you with this, I think.
I managed to adapt some Stellaris animations for Avali, modify and export them back to the game. I used your mod as basis. Here is the result:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/cnqz4tv4rvm5qdz/Animated_Avali_Portraits_RGB_DEMO.zip?dl=1
I did my best to make Avali animations not only Stellaris-like, but also as lore friendly, as I could:
- rabbit-like ears (meaning they don't bounce much, as I get it);
- independently moving ears;
- stiff counterbalancing tail (don't bounce much as well).
I also made standard portrait customization (in empire creation menu) instead of plain 100+ phenotypes. It is possible to choose feather color, hair and clothes independently. Well, almost: hair color will always match feather color. :)
