UPDATE 20220523

BSW has been improved once more for better space battle balance.

1. Overall, the combat starts a little closer. Especially, the engagement range of carriers and starbases has been decreased.
2. Carriers have been significantly nerfed. Defense and tactical/strategic survivability have been greatly reduced, and the strikecrafts has been slightly weaken.
3. The survivability of missile weapons has been significantly increased in several ways.
4. The damage profile of P slot weapons has been changed to make them little more useful in fleet battles.
5. Some ship sections have been changed/removed.

This update is compatible with saves from earlier versions of BSW, but it may take some time for players or AI's ship design to change.


Increased base ship hull points

Corvette: 300 -> 350
Destroyer: 800 -> 900
Cruisers: 1800 -> 2100
Battleship: 4000 -> 4500 (3000 for vanilla)
Titan: 12000 -> 15000 (10000 for vanilla)

Considering the increased bomber ship health penalty described below,
The hull point of the all-bomber carrier with T2 ship hull upgrades are decreased as below.
Destroyer class (H2) : 700 -> 600
Cruiser class (H5): 1550 -> 1350
Battleship class (H11): 2850 -> 2250

Overall, regular ships are stronger and carriers are weaker, so the difference in durability between carriers and regular ships is larger.

Targeting rule

When ships set their main target, they take more into account the evasion of the enemy.


Carrier combat computers



Reduced ship engagement range bonus: up to +200% -> up to +100%
Some ultra-long-range ships - such as the Titans - can even fire at carriers at the start of a battle!

Addition of ship emergency FTL cooldown penalty: +300%
now the base 120 days after the start of battle is required for a fleet including an carrier to retreat.

Removed ship retreat rate bonus
Due to the lowered ship hull points, the survivability of carriers exposed to enemy fire will be drastically reduced.

Combat sublight speed penalty: -20% -> -40%

Precognitive Interface (Psionic Combat Computer): Removed worthless tracking bonus, -20% combat sublight speed penalty


Strikecrafts





Bomber ship health penalty increased: -250 -> -350
Decreased bomber tracking: 30% -> 20%

Strikecraft alloy cost has been slightly increased and alloy upkeep reduced.
Energy credit upkeep has been increased.
Overall, the maintenance cost of carriers has been adjusted to be similar to that of other ships.


Interceptors no longer penetrates shields, has no bonus damage aginst armor.
Since the damage to hull remains the same, the excellent point defense capability is the same as before.


Explosive weapons







The health of the missiles has been increased from 2x to 4x vanilla.
The missile's flight speed has been increased from 1.5x to 2x vanilla.
More intensively than before, it will attempt to saturate enemy air defenses by firing simultaneously.

Compared to other missile weapons, the damage of Swarm missile weapons is half (8 times vs. 4 times that of vanilla), and the missile's health is twice (4 times vs. 8 times of vanilla).

Overall, the survivability of the missiles will be improved by 2-3 times or more.


P slot weapons





FLAKs now deal 50% damage to shields (was 10%) and 10% damage to armor.
On the contrary, PD deals 10% damage to shields and 50% damage to armor (was 10%).
The specs of the other two weapons of the same tier are now completely identical.


Starbases/h3]

Starbase engagement range has been reduced overall.
In addition to the existing combat computer technology (increasing the weapon range), the starbase class (directly increasing the engagement range) will also increase the engagement range.
Therefore, lower-grade starbases have a narrower engagement range (less than half of the original), and the engagement range of the highest-grade starbases has also been reduced by about 30% compared to the current one.
Planetary orbital rings also have the same attrition damage as starbases.


Ship sections and AI shipbuilding

The corvette class carriers that were capable of H1 have been removed.
The corvette's carrier combat computer is still there.

Destroyer A slots changed from 2-3 to 1-2.
Instead, the player section has one more defense slot.

In accordance with this, the fleet composition of some AI empires has been changed.

Carrier-centric AI now uses swarm combat computers instead of picket combat computers when using point defense ships.
This is to further work to prevent enemy ships from approaching the carrier.


Others

Significantly reduced error logs that were not related to gameplay.
