Forerunner - A Traditions Overhaul

Description
Compatible with 3.8 (Gemini).

Forerunner - A Traditions Overhaul is a complete overhaul of the game's tradition system, designed to mirror the balance of the base game while introducing brand new gameplay options. It reworks existing Tradition trees with more compelling perks and choices in order to reinforce existing playstyles or create entirely new ones.

The new Path mechanic gives players increased freedom when it comes to pursuing Ascension Perks, by allowing Paths to be paired within a Tradition category or in between Tradition categories, letting the player define how their Ascension Perks should be obtained.

  • Forerunner overhauls all Traditions in the game with more compelling perks and choices, supporting unique bonuses for standard empires, machine empires, hive empires, Lithoids, Necrophages, and more. Adding in total 11 Tradition categories, 60 Paths, and 198 new Traditions!

  • A new way to gain Ascension Perks. Instead of gaining Ascension Perks from finishing a Tradition, gain them by pairing Paths. Choose the bonuses that are relevant to you and your playthrough!

  • Redesigned layout and icons for each Tradition, featuring the beautiful artwork found in Stellaris.

  • Lightweight and compatibility friendly. Forerunner was designed with compatibility in mind. See the compatibility section for more information.

  • Clean implementation. No game errors.

The content of this mod can be seen below.

Ascension Perks are now gained by pairing a Path with another Path (6 Traditions in total). Note that any Path in any Category can be paired in this way. Paths from Supremacy can be paired with Paths in Commerce, and so on.

Forerunner was designed to be as lightweight and non-intrusive as possible and as such makes no direct changes to any base game file. This is a huge improvement from Traditions+ and how many files it was forced to edit.

Forerunner does, however, make indirect changes to the Tradition files found in the \traditions and \traditions_categories folders by overwriting those files on startup, mainly to hide the original Traditions from player view and "replace" them with Forerunner Traditions.

Forerunner overwrites the following game files on startup.

This means that Forerunner is compatible with a vast majority of other mods, even mods that add new Tradition trees or mods that touch the Tradition files, although for the latter it is not guaranteed that they will play along nicely, as such mods are only technically compatible.

I would recommend using Forerunner as your only Tradition mod to maintain a cohesive game balance and game experience when it comes to the Tradition system itself.

Preliminary, this seems to be working on 4.0.

I very much hope idm has it in them to make a reboot or update on this, cause its probably my favorite tradition mod. I honestly feel like this is how stellaris traditions should be. That said, I don't wanna pressure or seem entitled, cause if idm has decided to abandon this mod I respect them just as much for what they made

This mod still works, though I highly recommend using this submod with it to avoid errors: https://sp.zhabite.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3188183055

Hope this mod gets an update.

I've run into an odd quirk where taking the 'Flesh is weak' path for the Ascension tree bugs out. It doesn't consider you to have completed the Cyberization project, so you can't progress up the tree without using the console to cheat in the blocked perk. It may be because I don't have the Machine Age dlc yet.

Damn, WTB update.

Excellent mod

Is there no longer a tradition for % to gain favor by improving relations every month or something? It's nowhere in the Statecraft reworked tradition tree, and the vanilla Diplomacy tree that contained that tradition branch has been replaced/removed by this mod...

Honestly it's always sad to see that such Wonderful mods don't get updated.
