Rugged Recipes

Description
WARNING: I AM NOT ACTIVELY DEVELOPING FOR THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE.

41.66 and 41.67 have broken some parts of this mod in multiplayer (and some vanilla items). Anything that has to be cooked, and then it turns into another item (dried fruit, jerky, pancakes, eggs) will cannot be moved to your inventory without vanishing. The item will then ALSO respawn uncooked in the stove. The temporary work around is to move the items to the floor. Then you can pick them up. They will still also respawn, infinitely. Nothing I can do about this, its a Zomboid issue.

Rugged Recipes
Some rugged recipes to help with long term survival.

Translations and Credits!
Alchohol brewing!
Find the "Prison Hooch and You! The Homemade Booze Guide" magazine, or start with the "Shiner" trait and get brewing!
Current Booze:
  • Hooch (Prison Wine): Combine fruit, water, yeast, "sugary additive", and a cooking pot. Cook the pot, and let it sit for 8 days. Strain it into empty booze bottles.
  • Berry Wine: Combine berries and yeast and let it sit! Drain into empty wine bottles after about 3 weeks. Berry Wine greatly increases happiness and decreases stress.
  • Kvass: Combine some fruit, bread and sugar in a jar, and filter into water bottles. Its like beer. Classic Russian beverage! Takes about 5 days to ferment.

Meat Preservation
Find the "Jerkin It! The Dried Meat Guide" magazine, or start with the "Complete Jerk" trait and get smoking!
Current Preserved Meats:
Biltong: Keep your beef and mutton around for a LOT longer. Requires Salt.
Beef Jerky: Turn beef into preserved meats that will last the long winter. Requires Salt.
Smoked Fish: Perfect for those long winter nights. Requires salt.

Fermented Food!
Find the "In a Pickle! The Fermented Food Guide" magazine, or start with the "Fermento" trait and get fermenting!
Current Foods:
Kentucky Kimchi: Long term cabbage based food product. Takes around 8-9 days to ferment. Made with available Kentucky ingredients. Cabbage, hot sauce, carrots, radish, leek. Requires Jar and Lid.
Pickles: Turn cucumbers into pickles! Requires Jar, Lid, Cucumbers, Sugar, Water and Vinegar. Let it sit for 8 days after Jarring, and BAM, you got pickles.
Sauerkraut: Turn Cabbage and Salt into Sauerkraut. Takes about 2 weeks.

Dried Fruits!
Find the "Raisin the roof! The Dehydrated Food Guide" magazine, or start with the "Dry Humor" trait and get drying! Dried fruits have the same stats as normal fruit, but half the weight and last for months. Downside is they make you a little thirsty.
Current Foods:
  • Dry all default game fruits!

Additional Changes
  • Grow Cucumbers! (This is disabled if you have Snakes Food Mod La Gourmet)
  • Storing food in jars no longer takes vinegar and sugar. That's for PICKLES. Not canning.
  • Open a jar, get a lid. Lids no longer vanish into the great beyond.
  • New recipe, no training required. Check cooking tab for "Prepare Potato for baking".

ROADMAP: FUTURE PLANS
  • Pemmican
  • Hardtack
  • Alternate yeast recipe
  • Wild meat preservation
  • Better fish support
  • Fruit Teas!
  • Pickled Eggs
  • Hotsauce!

@syrup do you know of any mods that support drying food?

@BBQ The mod has not been updated since 2022, I'm sorry but it's probably best to find an alternative, a large portion of the recipes in the mod no longer work

How do I dry the meat and fruit?

I got mutton and salt, and used that to prepare undried biltong. But how I do I actually dry it? It just became stale.

Same with the fruit. I cut it up to prepare for drying. Do you just lay it out on a counter? Store it in a cupboard? I'm not aware of any dehydrator in game.

I just tried making hooch mass for the first time, when the crafting ended I got errors and all the ingredients disappeared from my inventory, no hooch mass anywhere :(

Does anyone know a good substitute for this one since it's not being worked on?
