A pretty boring tower defense. Maps are simple squares making you maze them, which is fine but not every map. It also goes for 100 waves. Enemies are simple and uninteresting. There's only 4-6 towers and they can upgrade to level 3. All upgrades seem to do is make them do more damage. Nothing tells you what the towers do or their stats.

And there's a bug since 2013 where you have severe input lag. Some people, including myself, find merely plugging in a controller gets rid of it.

Avoid this game even if you're a big TD fan.

A fun, short game made with RPG-Maker. There's no combat and not much story. The core of the gameplay are traps and using meta knowledge to avoid these traps and complete the 3 testing areas. Die too many times and you fail and have to redo that test area from the beginning. I recommend seeing all the deaths you can and figuring stuff out, then reloading and going for the good end requiring minimum deaths.

There are 3 endings and I suggest you see all 3 to get the full picture of the story. As bare bones as it is I still found it interesting, especially when you see the good ending. To get the good ending you have to complete the testing areas with the least amount of deaths possible (3, 2, 1) which gives you access to secret rooms. There's a 4th secret room in stage 2 you must also see to get the good ending (forgot about it my first playthrough and had to start over as I overwrote my saves; bad idea).

It sucks you can't manually save during the tests, but it makes sense lore and gameplay wise, and once you get the hang of it you can beat all 3 in under 15 minutes.

The game is only a few bucks and if you take your time and see everything you can it'll get you ~90 minutes of fun or so. I recommend.

A fun diversion for just a few bucks. Several game modes and randomized maps. A leveling up system where you earn credits for each mission which can be used to upgrade weapons (after so many kills) and to unlock cosmetics. There's even custom game modes and forge which I think lets you make your own maps (haven't tried it). Features all the weapons and enemies from Halo.

Best of all no microtransactions.

Another game in the Alien shooter franchise. Literally everything is recycled from previous games. Only new thing is the ability to pick up and drop powerful turrets. Because of the new turrets the weapons have been nerfed, except the pistols which seem to have been buffed for some reason. Oh, there is a new final boss enemy that's super tough.

Right now almost all the achievements are glitched so I've had to get my friend SAM to unlock them, and leaderboards don't seem to work.

If you love the Alien Shooter franchise and want more, go ahead and buy this. Otherwise play the other games first.

This isn't necessarily a bad game, and if I could leave a neutral rating I would. I went in expecting a Choose Your Own Adventure game in the vein of those old, wonderful books. I got something a little different. I replayed the beginning ~10 minutes multiple times doing all the different choices I could to see roughly what the game was like.

Pros
+The writing is excellent, and what I briefly saw there were no grammatical or spelling errors. The writing wasn't complicated and I expect most people who can read will be able to play and enjoy all the writing of this game. Despite not being complicated I found it engaging, but..

Cons
-Although the writing is good and engaging, I'm much more of a science fiction fan and this didn't particularly interest me. I'm sure it gets more sci-fi'y later, but I wasn't really drawn in to start, exacerbated by my next issue.

-The vast majority of choices don't seem to matter at all. The game boasts over 2000 choices, but all except like 2 of them don't matter in the beginning, and you'll make 15-20 in this time period. At the beginning you have the choice of visiting 1 of 2 people. Which person you choose seems to determine your next step in the story. Who you choose first slightly changes how the story plays out with the other, but it doesn't seem to matter. This is my greatest issue with the game and why I don't feel motivated to play it. I want ALL my choices to matter, like they did in those old books. Instead almost every choice leads you along the same path if you reload and take the other one. In the CYOA books almost every choice you made sent you on a different, unique adventure. Only rarely would your choices converge in those books, and I loved it. I would have over a dozen bookmarks so whenever I reached a story end I could go back and make a different choice to see what changes. Here nothing of value changes. At the end I'll have a spoiler section detailing various early game choices and how they have no impact. The reason so few choices matter is likely due to my next issue.

-You can't die in this game, and there aren't any bad endings. No matter what choices you make you can continue to the end. This is horrible for a CYOA story, because it means so many paths must converge, thus meaning very few choices actually matter, or you'll have virtually no choices to make or else you'll have an impossible amount of story branches. If you're going to go this route I would rather they remove all choices that don't actually matter, and keep only the ones that will change your story path. Or at least have the choices that matter be a different color so I know which choices to pay attention to and to change on future playhtroughs.

-Bafflingly you have 1 save file. That's right, just one. In a huge story like this where there's supposed to be "10 story arcs" having only a single save is criminal.

-There's a function to rewind to your previous choice, but it doesn't allow you to make a different choice so it's pointless. Your only other option is to restart the whole game. Thankfully there's a button that skips the story ahead to the next choice, but it quickly gets tedious, even in the early game.

-Moti, your AI assistant, is really annoying how she constantly pops up to interrupt the story flow with meaningless comments.

-There is absolutely no backstory about yourself, or either of the two people you are asked to choose between meeting. It seems this information may get slowly dished out as the story continues, but still it's a bad way to start a story. Surely there could be an optional prologue exposition dump from the main menu (if this game had one which it doesn't).

-+The music is simple and boring, but then again that could be good so it doesn't distract from the text. Sound effects are rare but do add to the story, such as a door creaking open or the sound of a gunshot.

Closing thoughts + spoilers
The game is cheap, about the cost of a used paperback. If the premise intrigues you, and my complaints don't scare you, and you like reading, then this game is for you. If you are like me and wanted a CYOA book in game form, you will be severely disappointed.

Early ~10 minute game spoilers! At the start you have the choice between meeting Delores or Professor Sole. No matter what it seems Sole is killed. Delores also gets attacked but I'm pretty sure she escapes. I mostly explored going to Sole's first. Arrive at Soles and you can examine his overpacked suitcase which reveals he's planning a trip to a certain place, or you can ignore it. This doesn't matter because later when Sole is killed you search his body without choice and learn of that place anyway. As he's dying you can choose to stem the blood flow or try to listen to what he has to say. No difference. Before this you can ask him a if it's him or another choice I forget, but they don't matter. After this he asks you to come closer and you can comply or not, it makes no difference. But if you do come closer you have the choice to examine his diary or ignore it, but this doesn't matter. After he's killed you get a gun and can choose to carefully approach the house exit in pursuit of the murderer, or charge after them. It doesn't matter. You then can choose between chasing one of two people, and while they do lead to slightly different paths they converge exactly the same. Chase down the alley and you have the choice to shoot the fence lock twice, or attempt climbing it twice. Both have the same outcome of you getting knocked unconscious and the murderer taking your gun (I wonder if it's ever explained why he just doesn't kill you). Reload and go after the guy on the bus where you get more choices that make no difference ending with you getting knocked unconscious and losing the gun. This is where you have the choice of meeting Delores or going back to Sole's to look for research notes. It didn't seem to matter which I did in the grand scheme but I didn't play much beyond those choices. Go meet Delores and you can get to the house and search it before the cops show up. I chose to leave before finding the itinerary so I don't know what would change if it actually lets me find it. If you go back to Sole's you have to go to Delores' anyway but the police are there and won't tell you anything.

I put over 4000 hours into this game, quitting just as the combat beta was releasing in 2012. What made me quit is that at the time I had done almost everything there was to do of note. New updates then were boring and lacking longevity. I finally realized that when I would log in every day to check my farming plants, and do herblore effigies for other players for the free exp, that it had stopped being fun and instead was a chore. When I decided to quit it was like a weight lifted off my shoulders.

However, 8 years have passed since then. When once Jagex was vehemently against real world item trading, they now essentially sell gold for cash themselves via bonds, which can also be used for membership meaning earn enough in game coins and you never need to spend real money for membership. Then there's treasure keys and various other things that can be bought for real money.

All is not bad. To put things simply, there are no other games like Runescape. Runescape has such an immense amount of skills, quests, and things to do, almost all of it solo friendly if desired. Most skills interact with each other in some way. It's just incredible how everything is linked.

In some ways the above is both a blessing and a curse. Because there's so much to do the game is immensely overwhelming. I've forgotten most of the stuff I learned in these 8 years since I quit, and now there's also 8 years worth of updates I have no clue about. I don't even know where to start, what to do. And you can't really do much unless you're premium, though there is still an extensive free to play area. The quests are probably the best in the business featuring fun and interesting storylines. The music is fantastic and there's a ton of it.

I still have many fond memories from this game, such as the first time I was ever scammed was in Runescape, which was a valuable lesson that taught me well for future encounters in other games and kept me safe. Traveling in the wilderness with an acquaintance in Barrows magic gear and Ancient magic which can stun lock players, only to have the guy turn on me and try to kill me as I think of nothing but fleeing while forgetting I had the ability to freeze him in place. Fighting blue dragons in the wilderness and becoming so efficient at evading pkers that I was almost never killed. The first time a dragon armor piece dropped for me. And more.

If you are willing to put in the time to learn the game and use wiki sites to help you, then Runescape is a one of a kind mmorpg with unparalleled complexity and depth.

Jet Force Gemini is still my favorite game for the Nintendo 64. This game quite clearly takes much inspiration from that game. The ants are pretty much asset rips including the sounds they make. And they even copy JFG's intro scene where it tells you about the enemies, item pickups, and who you need to save.Unfortunately it's lacking many options.

Here is a picture of ALL the options: https://sp.zhabite.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2225019678

The game now has a warning on the Steam page that keyboard and mouse are not supported. That warning wasn't there when the game initially released, nor when I bought it soon after, and not when I made this review. Given the fact that they've had 7 years to develop this game and have put it on the pc, not including decent pc controls is still valid criticism.

-Unable to turn on inverted controls for controller. Aiming is baffling inverted when using the mouse; can't change this either.
-You can't even see what the keyboard or controller buttons are, and certainly you can't rebind them. With a controller plugged in the game does tell you what controls do what as you play.
-If you have no controller plugged in and start the game, the game tells you that keyboard and mouse is limited and to plug in a controller. I prefer to play shooters with a mouse so this is disappointing.
-You can't adjust the camera turn speed using the controller or mouse.
-Lockon didn't seem to work right for me; it only seems to work on the purple sniper ants and not the blue ants. I don't know if this is on purpose or not. EDIT: it's supposedly on purpose. Ok then.
-There is no autoaim like in JFG which wouldn't be a problem if we had smooth aiming controls, but we don't.
-You lose air when swimming on the surface of normal, drinkable water. Why? You also have this tiny pathetic jump while in the water which means you can only leave the water at certain spots, adding to the frustration of falling in.
-Not necessarily a fault of the game, but I wish they would add in at least the option to have cartoonish blood splatter like in JFG which was tons of fun. As it is now there are no blood splatters at all, although you can dismember the ants. Further disappointing is that the bodies disappear way too fast like in JFG, but where JFG had the excuse of limited hardware we don't have that excuse or limitation anymore. EDIT: People are saying there is blood and one even showed a screenshot. Well for me the first ants you meet didn't bleed even when I shot its head off and somehow made another explode. If it is there it needs to be more obvious.

+I do like the cuteness contrasted with the violence of shooting ants. As I said above I wish it was even more extreme with blood. Graphics seem fine to me too; I don't generally care about such things as long as it's not blurry.

Normally I wait to refund and leave a negative review, wait to give the devs time to acknowledge the problems and work on a fix. However the devs have been virtually absent from Steam, having only responded a few times and done nothing else here. So I don't trust them to be quick with these issues, and I have my doubts if they will even care at all and fix them. So I'm not waiting around and have already refunded.

I cannot recommend this game in it's current state. Only when it's on sale and only if they bother to patch these issues. $40 usd is too much for what the devs have described as a 10 hour experience if you 100% the game.

EDIT 9-13-20: If I could choose a neutral rating I would. It seems they fixed none of the bugs from the original, despite being well documented for years, and they actually added some new ones. On top of that the optimization is atrocious and lags in some parts of the game especially the Teeth of Naros dlc. Will they fix these bugs? I don't know but obviously I hope they do. On the other hand we got some massive quality of life improvements over the original, the biggest one being a new very hard difficulty. They also adjusted loot and enemy scaling to make it much harder to outlevel areas, and lowered the exp you get so you don't level up too fast. Lastly we got fov and other camera options. If the new features I just listed don't interest you, then stick with the original. Otherwise buy this if you will be willing to put up with the bugs, and then buy only on sale 50% or more.

EDIT: Doing some more looking, it seems the vast majority of bugs that have been around since the original release have not been fixed, such as going permanently invisible (just don't save while stealthed), and the Battle Frenzy not resetting bug, and more. There's a chance they may fix them in the future, but they were common knowledge for 8 years and THQN didn't fix them before release so it really looks like they don't care. It's still worth it I feel because it's a pretty solid game regardless.

KoA is a great game and this release is worth it whether you've never played it before and thus are paying full price, or already owned the EA-published version and get this on sale. To me the new very hard difficulty alone is worth it. No longer can you mindlessly button mash the whole game on hard; now you have to actually think and dodge/parry. They've also reduced the exp you get so you aren't max level halfway through the game. Enemy and loot scaling are also calculated each time you enter an area instead of being locked forever on first visit.

Pretty much all the negative reviews are by entitled, spoiled brats who are whining they aren't getting this for free. News flash: THQN made no money off the original release and need some way to make their money back. They aren't rich like Bethesda or CDPR. The other complaint is that the graphics upgrade is hardly noticeable. The game's art style still looks good today so there wasn't much work needed.

My only real complaint is that they didn't update the keyboard controls. How it is now you have to use 1-0 to select a skill, then RMB to use the skill, then press another number key if you want a different skill. Why can't the pressing of the number key activate the skill? Why can't there be two keyboard buttons to use your two weapons instead of needing a specific key to swap them? Keyboard is still useable, but as it is now a controller is the best way to play.

Buy this game!

This bundle is worth it for the character storage and inventory expansions alone. You get:

5x character storage (worth 350ac = 1750ac)
5x storage expansions (worth 800ac = 4000ac)

This makes the total ac value 5750. To buy 5150 ac by itself would cost $50 usd and this bundle costs $60 usd.
On top of that you get the other cool items, but I mainly just wanted the expansions. If you've played the game for a bit and like what you see, the expansions make the game much more enjoyable.

If I'd known this was the "Dark Souls" of metroidvanias I never would've bought it. Wasting my time with the archaic save system in modern times forcing me to spend several minutes to go back to an annoying boss and retrieve my money is not fun. There's a debug that's supposed to let you save anywhere but it doesn't work when you die; you still go back to the last bench. It's a shame because it's otherwise a great game, but I've completely lost all interest in it. Dying to the same boss a dozen or more times and having to spend several minutes each time to backtrack is not fun for me, at least not here.
