If you've played Garry's Mod prop hunt, this is just a variant of that. Fun sort of junky pixelated version with a crafting side element to it which adds cosmetic upgrades. Rounds are quick and even when you find the witches, there's still a fun chase to be had. A little steep at $14.99. Got this in a bundle though. $5-$10 range feels right. Replayable? yes.

Relaxing little "find it" game set in a black & white "Where's Waldo meets pop artist Keith Haring". It's a quiet, ASMRish type of spell. Less a game and more an exploration of quiet, odd noises (all made with human vocal chords) and a hypnotic (and often mezmering) field of tiny folks to look through.

Insanely fun, especially with a group of personal friends. Equal parts base and trap building, as well as survival horror. Emphasis on both parts of survival horror. You must eat, drink, and rest like a normal person. You'll need to need to pay attention to your body temperature in several areas of the map too. Plenty of stuff to craft - it's one of the fortays of this game. Make gardens, furniture, tools, etc.. You can make zip lines, elevators, and tree walkways. Fun stuff.

From the horror perspective, The Forest delivers maniacal mind trauma. Your first encounter with a nemasis of any type are the cannibals that also inhabit the area you've crash landed. The cannibals are ballsier at night (more inquisitive during the day) and will love to attack the $hit out of you with fierce aggression. Cannibal attacks at night can be quite troubling. Within their ranks, there are several different types of cannibals, that operate and fight with different tactics. Not to mention the super cannibals and mutant creatures that mostly dwell in the caves (but will eventually want to come visit your camp).

To protect from all of this, there are many things that can be crafted by gathering sticks, stones, and logs from the forest. One can create a veritable Swiss Family Robinson treehouse base or go for more of a Grizzly Adams log house type of affair. Regardless, they come at night! Build walls to keep them out (kinda) and traps to smoosh, spletch, and bawoosh them. These are really fun and appeal straight to my dark side.

Through all of this escalating insanity, there is a story in there. Your son has been kidnapped by a man in red and you're off to get him back godamnit. Clues lay strewn throughout the world. There are plenty of places to explore, including the vast cave system under the forest - not to mention a gigantic crater that you'll eventually explore. The Forest is crazy good (not to mention a steal at $20 USD). The replay value is definitely there and the game is best played with up to 8 friends. It's a hoot. Get it.

Probably the best-looking loot shooter out there. Game looks absolutely stunning and the level of ambient detail is jaw dropping. Character model moves almost perfectly through the game environment with almost no clipping on objects (and there are plenty to get potentially hung up on). Sound and voice acting is all above par.

What I don't like about the game and why I'll likely not invest a lot of time into The Division is that the loot is less-than-fantastic for a loot shooter and the baddies are bullet sponges. The game looks like a tactical shooter, but plays like a stunted Borderlands. Characters and enemies can take a stupid amount of damage before expiring. The AI is absolutely awful too. There is little strategy required to outgunning anyone. Just hide behind cover and take a shot when they're not firing. You may need to put a full clip into someone, but it wont be hard to take them out. Patience is the key. Unfortunately, that isn't what I thought a Tom Clancy game would be like. Not enough real challenge to it, which made my first two hours a slog. That isn't a good sign. A game should captivate from the get-go. Plus, the variation of quests isn't all that dynamic either. Most of the time, you're moving to a point to secure something and there will be some enemies there to kill. So far, nothing has changed all that drastically in this very basic "go there, kill stuff" approach.

After reading about the broken nature of the Dark Zone, I'm also not looking forward to the end game. Between rampant hacking and balance issues, I'm not sure what the point is of pressing forward.

I was hoping for a lot more. Surprised at how little there was outside of marvelling at the graphics.

I wasn't ready for this game the first time I played it. It looked great visually, which was the initial draw for me. The music was engrossing and although the camera was distance and removed from the cold, starting point for my team, I was drawn in intimately to the struggle of my crew. If you are not aware of how this game plays, it puts you in the cockpit of a small group of people trapped in a war-torn city during the onset of winter.

Basic life necessities are a commodity (food, water, heat, etc) and its your job to scavenge, protect, and just plain live through the nightmare of war. I was not ready for such a pensive experience and have come back to this game several times to re-explore the war-torn world of TWoM.

WHAT KIND OF GAME IS IT?

Fallout 4 is a post-apocalyptic game set in Boston, in the year 2287. Your character emerges from a deep sleep after over 200 years in stasis only to find his wife dead and child missing. You set out to find the people who did the deeds. It's an open world exploration game with both action and RPG elements. Players can play in first or third person views. Activities outside of missions/quests include: looting/scavenging, crafting (including deconstructing scavenged items), base building, and a follower system.

Combat takes place in either live mode or through VATS. VATS is a mode that allows players to analyze what percentages they have against hitting targets in called areas. Where once this mode paused the game, now it just slows down time, adding a more tense gameplay experience from previous Fallout games.

The base building and crafting systems are a nice diversion from the game for a while. You can get totally lost in building up a thriving enclave and assigning followers to those places to work/live/trade. They live their lives autonomously once you set them up.

Part of the fun of the game is exploring the game world and finding loot and secrets. There are plenty of things to scavenge and find in the game, whicn was one of the draws for me. As a fan of games like Borderlands and Diablo, where looting is a bit more randomized, I would have enjoyed a bit more randomization to this part of the game.

IS THE STORY GOOD?

Compared to previous stories in the series, not really. One thing that made the previous titles stand out (particularly FO3 and New Vegas), were the immersive stories. Many of the stories feel flat and lacking overall. Players will find some quest givers that always give a random quest too, which turns them into less of a narrative device and more of a vending machine for XP. It isn't horrible - I'm not trying to sound extreme. Just comparatively speaking, the more robust side of the Fallout world lies in the third installment and Vegas.

HOW DOES IT LOOK/SOUND?

Visually, the game has a great look to it. Some people have expressed issues with the textures in the game. For me, it wasn't a problem. Overall, the game has an interesting look that remains consistent throughout the game world. It feels run down.. which is how I want my Fallout. The weather effects in the game can look gorgeous - including radiation storms, which feel downright spooky. The sound effects are generally good, including the ambient noises in the game. And, for the most part, the voice acting is all on par with other Bethesda games.

BIG QUESTION, IS IT FUN?

Yeah. If you've never played a Fallout game before, you'd have nothing to compare it to and I would assume it would be a marvelous blast. Again, compared to the other titles in the series, it feels slightly underwhelming. It had me hooked for a few weeks, but lost the replayability factor for me.

SO WHAT'S MY RATING?

6/10

WHAT KIND OF GAME IS IT?

Civ 5 is a turn-based strategy game, often referred to as in the "4X" genre (eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate). You play a ruler of a birthing nation. From inception, you decide where to explore, what technologies to research, and what kinds of things to add to your cities and armies. Military units can explore the map, uncovering areas previously hidden by the fog of war. Other nations are doing the same and will meet you in the game and either strike up friendships or be aggressive towards you. There is a diplomatic element to the game as well.

Winning can come about five different ways: Domination (wipe out all other players), Science (launching a space ship), Cultural (filling out five trees of social policies and completing the Utopia Project), Diplomatic (winning a vote in the UN), and Time (highest score by end of time period).

IS THE STORY GOOD?

There is no story, per se. This is the story of a nation that you control. Outside of the historical lore at the game loading screen, there isn't much in the way of any narrative.

HOW DOES IT LOOK/SOUND?

The main graphics are nice, blending in stylized maps and tokens with pleasant animations. The ambient noises and narration are some of the best parts of the audio aspects of the game.

BIG QUESTION, IS IT FUN?

This game series is famous for the saying "just one more click". I have burnt the midnight oil trying to end my game only to say those exact things. Once I get my troops set up and hit the 'turn over' button, the computer starts playing all of the enemy moves and as the drums signify that it's your turn once more, it is extremely hard to not make any moves and simply go to bed.

SO WHAT'S MY RATING?

Solid 10/10

Essentially a mobile tower defense game. Rather than defend against a stream of raiders attempting to steal stars/hearts/life points/whatever from your base, you're a space runner. You run goods, nuclear waste, or people through space. The faster and more in tact your cargo arrives to point B from point A, the greater the rewards. Your ship starts off each round with a set number of hexes in which you can place add-ons of your choosing. These add-ons cost credits (of course) which are earned constantly by travelling or intermittently when you destroy objects (such as asteroids, other ships, or pirates). These credits are called hexnuts and float around as debris until you mouse over them to pick them up. Later on you can pick up add-ons that help magnetize them to your ship (this helps when things start getting hairy). The other add-ons include weapons, shields, power generators, and other goodies that can work synergistically with other systems on your ship or bolster your reward.

Orientation of your weapons matters, so you have to sometimes change which way they're facing while in combat. Placement also matters, as some weapons require a certain amount of hexes for the guns to move properly. In addition, some require power to operate correctly or to power special abilities. Pirates have some cheaterish moves that they can do to your ships, so the game expects you to think on your feet and be able to respond to certain conditions.

After each run, you earn credits and reputation. Rep unlocks the ability to purchase new items, while the credits allow you purchase the base new add-on or expand existing add-on abilities (for example, expanding the power thrusters tree allows for the thrusters to operate at a higher efficiency).

Space Run is a fun game with good replay value. The levels are not random though, so you have an opportunity to learn at what time and from which direction threats will come to you. At its core, SR is another tower defense game, however it's a very polished and fun tower defense game that changes enough of the basic mechanics of a TD game to keep it unique and fresh.

A learn-as-you-play adventure set to methodic music and an intriguing script. The doomsday narrative unfolds as you blunder into some of the world's worst characters, doing some of the most awful things. LISA celebrates the worst in us, making me want to do good more than ever. Prepare to laugh and enjoy yourself.
