An interesting concept - you begin in the dark abyss of a cave system. You put on a VR headset (in game) and a scanning tool and map your way out of the cave by projecting a spray of lasered dots onto the cave walls. Without this tool, you'd fall to your death. Along the way, you pick up upgrades to the tool. While simple in concept, there is a meager story to it all. I played for about 3 hours total and there is no need for me to ever go back to the game again. Upon completion, you'll understand why. Scanner Sombre held my interest for the entire 3 hours. Up to you on how much that's valued at. Definitely a quirky little indie experiment.

If you've seen a ghost-hunting show on television, you'll know exactly what you'll be doing in Phasmophobia. Ideally played in a co-op setting, Phasmo pits you and your ghost-hunting team against one of a variety of different types of malevolent spirits haunting locales. Your goal is to primarily identify which ghost type you're dealing with by observing its characteristics and entering data into a notebook that you have. This is done by utilizing your ghostbuster tools. Things like UV lights, which allow you to see phantom handprints or thermometers, which allow you to register cold spikes when supernatural presences are nearby. Upon successfully identifying the ghost, your team leaves the site and earns money and XP based on how much evidence is acquired and whether or not you're accurate in your assessment.

Sound technical? Only slightly. The real fun of the game is in how this is all done. Talk about an atmospheric experience, Phasmo delivers on the chills. One of the most unique features to the game is that the game listens to everything you actually say over your mic. It's open mic and the spirits are listening. This means that you can ask the spirits questions, encourage them to appear, or even anger them.. all based on what you chatter over the mic. Want to hear something scary? Ask a spirit if it can show you a sign of its presence. Few games incorporate a mechanic like this into gameplay and the result is absolutely terrifying.

"Ghost sign" begins sometimes as slight as listening for a small creak or knock in another room. Sometimes things will move or you'll even hear a faint whisper or breath. The audio is mind-numbingly chilling in every way and almost requires a headset. Want the full experience? Turn off the lights. As many ghosts only appear when you're alone and in the dark, you can see how this primes the experience for terror.

There is depth to this game. It is a highly novel concept and great fun with friends. I highly recommend Phasmophobia and it retails for a very affordable price. Get it!

Among Us is a devilishly fun game. Gameplay is simple. Up to ten spacemen are assigned to a ship or base. A predetermined number of imposters are among the crew. Regular players are assigned menial tasks of various lengths to help win the game. Imposters however are there to kill their fellow crewmen. This must be done effectively when no one else is looking, lest they be reported by the rest of the crew. Voice sessions are allowed when a body is reported or when special meetings are called. Outside of that, its silent. This provides all the cover necessary for murder.

I played this game with the text only feature. Not very fun. Bringing voice to the game (via Discord for example) is where the social/lying aspect really makes this game sing. Seriously fun and simple. Absolute must play!

Some achievement ideas:

1) Pushed kids into an eternal hole.
2) Pushed a throng of kids into an eternal hole.
3) Pushed kids through intestinal tracks.
4) Waited for something else to happen than clicking on kids.
5) Ultimately did what the game wanted me to do.
6) Pondered life and my actions as an adult.
7) Didn't ponder ♥♥♥♥.
8) Wrote a review for the game.
9) Questioned whether this was a game or not.
10) Decided to write a review anyways, since other people did as well.

Depraved is a fun city builder with a Wild West theme. I was immediately in love with the overall feel and fun factor. There are plenty of missing 'quality of life' improvements that sour an otherwise enjoyable experience though. And while there are some fun detailed elements, such as roads forming over the repeated use by the sims, there are plenty of other features that annoy or distract from the afore-mentioned fun of the game. For example, the sims AI seems to be very basic and sometimes frustratingly stupid. The graphics look good for the tier of pricing it sells at.

It's a good time-waster, good for those who enjoy a city-building, sandbox experience. Not much in the way of missions or goals though, which sucks a bit. In summation, not bad.

A casual game where you play the proud owner of a Little Inferno fireplace. Your mission is to burn things. That's it. Sound stupid? It's about the most charming thing I've ever played. Whimsical music delights as you continue to peruse and order items in catalogs to burn. Progression is had via performing burn combinations, which in turn results in a story that develops between you and your neighbor.. also a burner. The story develops into an ironic message, which again is charming AF. I won't spoil it.

Game took about 4 hours in total to play. Except for one element, there is no replay value (so keep that in mind). If you do pick it up and want to know what that one element is, here's a hint: save your free hug ticket. I'll say no more.

Game gets a 7/10
Charm factor is a 10/10

This game is so bad, it might actually go full circle and be worth buying for its $5 price tag.

I broke down and bought this on the "other DRM service". Liked it so much, I bought it on Steam as well (my preferred DRM).

Just a great continuation of the series. While it doesn't revolutionize the game, it also doesn't added unwanted content (air management, ground pounding, etc). There are a few changes to the game, but it largely gets back to the air-breathing fun of the core BL2 game. Less buggy than BL:TPS as well.

Levels are designed well and BL3 offers quite a bit of variety in the scenery department. Graphics have been turned up a slight tick, but the gameworld "feels" just like you remember it. Full of cell-shaded details.

The co-op element is as seamless and user-friendly as possible and can even be changed to be loot-instanced (so everyone gets their own drops) or like the older version (where you have to race to pick up items before the team ninja grabs everything). VOIP continues to work well and there is little need for a chat service like Discord, unless users want to talk to those outside of their game.

People interested in a loot-shooter with lots of exploding body parts and humorous voice acting shouldn't be worried. BL3 delivers. It's a real hoot and there are plenty of periodic sales on it since the other guys controlled the release (#eyeroll).

By now, you've probably already watched the first trailer (possibly the second). And if you watched the third trailer, you know exactly what to expect from Generation Zero. I'll save you my recap in what the trailers do handily. What I'd like to review is what the player experience is like.

I'll keep it to the point and exactly what I think.

Gameplay is highly immersive in both single and multiplayer versions. There's a palpable atmosphere to the game. From nuanced sound effects to layered landscape noises to some wicked 80's synth music, the aural experience is good. And the guns *sound* good too. We all know what that's like. When you're firing a weapon and you're like, "hmm.. okay. That's what AR's sound like in this game." Nah, the guns sound snappy in Generation Zero. As do the machines. Talk about a menacing sound. The machines produce some exquisitely creepy and grindy sounds. And the bigger, the more deadly these things sound.

Visually, it feels a little under par in some ways. The highest settings would be easy to run on most PCs. What is done well though is the way the landscapes are made from a macro view. Trees rustle in gentle winds. Wind actually makes tall grass move the way it looks in reality, rippling across amber waves.. you get the point. The wind is cool. The lighting effects also assist in making up for the lower-resolution graphics. And there is some good lighting. The electrical explosions in particular. Fire and explosions all create some pretty on-screen visuals. And I'd be remiss if I didn't say that you can actually use mortar-style fireworks as thrown weapons in this game.

All of this fun stuff plays well too. Animations are mostly great. Movement is responsive and tight and your character feels grounded to the game world. Had no problems there.

About the only thing I'd ding the game for, is the ongoing sense of loneliness. Not solely because the game is set in a world that the machines attacked - hence, no mo people. But, there isn't much of an epic story. There are times when it just feels that you could just as easily wander around and get into your own adventures, rather than following a quest which would unfold an interesting new story element to the world. Nope. Wandering works just fine. So I'm not sure if I'm saying this game is somewhat soulless. That might be too rough. It just doesn't feel complete. Hmm.. hard to put my finger on it.

That said, it absolutely excels in the multiplayer experience. Way funner with friends. Overall, I really like this game. It mostly draws me in on atmosphere, but its a good time nonetheless. And not bad at the $25 price point. Seen it go on sale a few times already, so you could always wishlist it with confidence that it'll be lower in the near future.

A polished, simple game of yes/no and the consequences that are the fruit or your choices. Set in a comical, low-fantasy medieval world, you take on the role of a young king who is presented with a choice a year. Each choice can effect your status with the church, your population, the military, and the kingdom's economics. Want to trade with the Eastern merchants? Doing so will raise the economics in your kingdom, while also angering your neighbors.. be careful of tensions raising. A shaman wants to see her trinkets in the town square? Allowing this will afford you some extra coin at the expense of your priests getting annoyed that you're following the pagan gods. Several nations are threatening to attack. Do you conscript more people from the populace? Doing so will make them angry, but protect your lands.

The choices are all yours. Live with them. When your king's life has come to an end (either from a coup or from old age), your heir will take over to reign.

From a mechanical standpoint, certain elements of the game carry over into the next rule. For example, you can garner bonuses from say the silk trade that will allow you a boon to trade over generations of rule. Similarly, you can find artifacts that live on into the next rule as well.

Artistically, the game is presented in a beautiful and stylistic manner. The sounds are well-designed, with ambient music as the backdrop and the voices of your people represented similar to how Sims talk in The Sims. Gameplay is quick also, so this is a good game if you want a time-killer. This is a rogue-like experience though. Your choices matter and there is little "going back" (only in a couple of exceptions can you rethink your moves).

Reigns is a good title. Witty, clever, and intriguing.
