This is a pretty great game. The puppets add this unintentional accidental fear factor where they both undermine the fear, yet somehow that makes them all the creepier. Hearing someone be bright, optimistic, positive in tone while speaking about stomping their friends face in is pretty intimidating when just a minute ago he was singing in the stairwell. Though I should admit it has a few jumpscares, not many like, 3 at most and they aren't even that egregious, and I dunno if 1 counts since it was fully expected.

The game also has a pretty decent background plot, one you get to piece together on your own through the various notes you find. Reporting the rise and fall of the MFN show itself, to the gritty documentation of war.

My biggest complaints? Well to begin these aren't detractors from the game per say, just something I noted that struck a few questionable nerves. First inventory is a bit of hassle. While that's expected in a Resident Evil esque game to an extent, only having 1 tiny storage box to store things in doesn't make up for it. Sure you get a 2nd storage box later in the game, but it's only in like 2 to 3 locations and at that point the games 80% done and if you play like me you're pretty good at stockpiling things like a kleptomaniac gerbil and you begin to reach a 'what is the LEAST valuable thing I can afford to toss?' point.

My biggest irritation is melee, while having melee can make or break a lot of survival aspects, it can be a nice rewarding method to conserve ammo. Not in this game. In this game the puppets have a longer reach than they look, longer than yours to hit them. So usually your only chance to hit them is right after they grab you, or when they get stuck on some corner, or when you abuse some longer reach jank. I found a good rhythm in shooting a puppet in the head, and if it did the flail back thing I could run up and smack it a few times. But it was rarely guaranteed to be a kill, if anything most of the time it injured me because of another subsequent problem. Inconsistent health.

Enemies health in this game is all over the place. You can understand and gauge some of it. Junebug gets clapped pretty fast, the weird tiny hand puppets all go down in one hit, Lilliana didn't have a lot of health. The rest though? Could range from going down in 3 to sometimes 9 pistol shots, though you don't have to worry about the shotgun since that always was a pretty strong insta-knockout despite being a single shot. Towards the end of the game you get a minigun with only
1 clip of 999 rounds that naturally hits you in the gamer mindset of 'better save this for later, I might need it.' It feels nice to have but also kind of makes things a bit awkward in power dynamic.

Sure the ammo isn't infinite, but by the time you GET the minigun you're near the end of the game and can afford to be a little careless at that point.

The candy bars, they give you a speed boost for about 4 doors worth of loads I think? While that sounds like a lot, it kind of goes real fast the second you realize you double back through loading screens a lot. Sure as long as you have coins the hotel has infinite candy for you, and it stacks infinitely so you can run at mach 6 potentially if you eat enough, and make the boss fights a bit of a joke.

The game starts to get really terrifying towards that tail end to, I really started to get into it at that point... The reality? That was maybe a 15 minute segment of horrors when you experienced the (REDACTED.) that get interrupted by a boss fight anyhow.

Then the game just... Ends. It left me feeling, well, ironically it left me feeling a lot like a show I loved got abruptly cancelled mid-season.

It's awkward, it felt like they were just starting to unpack the true horrors that no man should ever see box, only for you to walk out get offered a choice of ending, and then get the ending scene with your results. This is also pretty evident in the fact there were only 2 bosses in the game, which is fine enough but they kept introducing big enemies that I felt like were also meant to constantly harass us, only to be able to subdue or outright ignore them for a variety of methods.

A game having an ending is fine, I paid full price for this and I felt like it was pretty well worth it. Especially if you just like playing on increased difficulties, or with cheats, or speedrunning. It fills that up very well.

It's not a bad game, it has a lot of optional stuff and you can miss a lot of if you're careless, including the true ending which I had all the parts for but kind of forgot about because I wandered onto the 'no go back' point of the ending. Wasn't aware I did though, and I can't reload from back then to see the other ending since your game marks a file as donezo once you wrap it up.

But yeah, the game has a lot of heart and passion put into it, but I do find myself wondering if it could've benefited from some more time in the oven. I abandoned my melee weapon in the name of inventory space entirely as well, since it was rarely as useful as just shooting something in the face repeatedly. I'd say it's worth the full price and I do find myself looking forward to what the devs do next.

Promising game.
Has a huge identity issue, and really only caught any traction due to the real battlefield games suicidal behavior.
Maps are too big, even if it did have 254 players running around it. There seems to be no accuracy problems no matter what range you shoot from with any rifle, it's just weird and depressing.

Vehicles don't even have much of a part, so many people means that at least 5% of them are using HE ROCKETS as a primary weapon, which means hiding against the wall in buildings you just shot from is the same as suicide.

I feel like this game would be a lot better if there was at least competent map design, most of the maps are sniper dominated with no real way to counteract. The snipers can friggin equip reflex sights on their sniper rifles ffs.

The community? It's a FPS the community is what you expect. Half toxic, a quarter confusing, and another quarter mic spam.

The most hilarious part? No armor at the start. So if you're new to the game like me, you will always die faster than most people with more time than you unless you camp like a mofo. Which gets demoralizing pretty fast for a new player.

Let's just say, the game radiates flash in the pan energy that only an indie game made by 3 guys can ignite.

This game, it is great, it CAN be great, but not right now. It needs a TON of refining because the small problems become a myriad of issues real fast.

Some of my biggest issues; Side jobs being unable to be completed, through various reasons because the clues given are randomly selected they can be nonsensical, the one I got that left me stumped the most was knowing the persons shoe size and eye color was all I got. Or the one where you have to retrieve an envelope that may or may not spawn.

The game has a screwed up explanation with time as well. The murder victims and times of death are explained in military time, I can understand that. But witness testimonies or the such when making inquiries speak based on the 12am to 12pm format. Which is nothing short of confusing, more irritating is it's a known issue that could and should have been resolved by a simple addition in the options menu.

Sometimes the world generation screws up and you get apartments that legitimately have 0 CCTV rooms spawn in it, which means if your best bet was to look at security footage to see who was coming and going at that time, you're screwed.

NPCs around you complain about you holding up relatively non dangerous items and spamming "Let's just put that down..."

Some stores may start out open, then close, then never open again. The first time this happened to me at the pawn shop was fine, I understood WHY that guy never opened again. He was the victim in my first case. Other times it seems random and arbitrary. I don't know if people have a work schedule they strictly follow where they work and then go home at a certain time, or they legitimately stay at the work place for days on end until the day they leave and then go home.

Guns, one of the biggest headache in this game. You can find plenty of guns, there are a lot of them. Can't use a single one though. But the NPCs? Oh, you're screwed. They will have guns galore and you will stand 0 chance, whereas all you can do with a gun is pistol whip. It's a bit stupid to me because the enemies can take you out in a couple of shots. The dev said that guns shooting messed with world generation, or something akin to that, but personally I'd of rather gone the route of no guns at all at that point.

Some syncdiscs are just worthless. Some let you get like a couple of credits if you explore new places. Others are sugar daddy which gives you 5k credits instantly, but you have a crippling addiction to starch products. To the point that you legitimately cannot go longer than 5 seconds without drinking a kola or you will start trembling from withdrawal. It's a funny idea and a good joke, but executed in the worst way feasible. A monkeys paw. The syncdiscs I always wanted more of, were ones that let me carry more items because for a detective in a trench coat, I sure felt like I had no pockets.

Security, sometimes you can find a box or a computer to turn off the surveillance cameras... But there are also cameras that are just, lazers bouncing around a room that if you step into, all the turrets come online and mow you down. There is no way to shut those off to my understanding, which is irritating when everything is off, the powers been cut, and these things just magically keep going.

The last complaint is steam deck related: The game is a finnicky thing on it. Sometimes randomly crashing for no reason, and you'd be hard pressed to play in a max size city because of how long load times are which more often than not crashed for me. And I had no luck really playing it with the build in controller, even with community layouts. Which is fine I guess since I usually operate this in docked mode.

Another gripe I've heard people complain about was the lack of story to cases, it seemed hit and miss if there would be a plot involved in the case or not. Like a woman having an affair with her boss to keep her job so he kills her to keep her quiet. That was the main example I had seen. A lot of these cases are just indistinct random stabbings or shootings that feel hard to connect to anybody without solid evidence because, it legitimately just seems like someone just SNAPPED and decided to kill someone some days.

I actively refused to use the government database in the game, it's a bit overpowered, while ironically being worthless at the same time. You know someones fingerprint, shoe size, and eye color? Sucks for you, you can only look up names in the government database for SOME reason in the name of balance. But at that point, why even include it at all? I just hate it, and unless I legitimately have run out of every other avenue of investigation and am forced to use it. And even then, I refuse to use it if I'm forced to just randomly begin drawing names and hoping for a match. At that point the case is shot and I got no hope.

Shadows Of Doubt will be great once it's out of early access, I'm sure. But it REALLY needs a lot of touch ups and refining. Some design considerations, and a lot more work. I don't regret my time with it because as an immersive sim, it is quite relaxing and nice. Sometimes just hanging around in the city is nice. When you do have a case that isn't borked by generation or a side job that is actually feasible, it's satisfying to do it even if sometimes you have to be a bit shady in the law. Sure you COULD just be a kleptomaniac thief who just steals from people in the highest floors of apartments, that can earn a lot of money, but it tends to feel a lot more hollow in my experience.

I mean, I feel it should say plenty about this game already when you get banned from the forums for laughing at their weird pride posts for disability of all things.

It's a hit and miss bag that isn't worth full price, steam deck multiplayer required me to get 2 of the same files from a homie and replace mine with them to make it work and I don't know how it works with more than 2 players I'm a tad scared to find out on linux. Just buy it on a deep sale.

It's a fun great indie game with great music, beautiful art direction, golden characters, and unlike a lot of rhythm games, doesn't punish you severely for missing one note.

My only detractor with this game would have to be, ironically with the one who had one of my favorite tracks. DK West, his boss battle devolves into 6 lane dodging notes, but split into two lanes. Just kind of comes off like a thing intended for 2P above all else, but it was enough to demotivated me into not attempting a 100% run of the game.

Charm, love, quality, care, fun, and fair challenge.

Learning the level by basic running through it, then using that knowledge to escape a level in time. It's a simple concept, but it works EXCELLENTLY. The game knows what it wants to be, knows what it is, and does not try to be more than that, while oozing charm everywhere along the way.

This is one of the rare few early access games that I can 100% recommend supporting.

Usually Early Access is a hit and miss thing, it can show great potential but never get anywhere and be left in death, or the project could be awkwardly updated sporadically and still be in early access 10 years later.

I say this is something to support because, Planet crafter is pretty straight forward, the team is working hard to update it frequently with far more content. It's a great game, it's simple relaxing and satisfying to watch things grow and develop as you terraform a planet.

This is an interesting weapon pack.
The Deimos shotgun, fast reload, does alright, exclusive set I can live without since it feels like it sacrifices accuracy and stability just a tad too far.

The Campbell 74 LMG, friggin godly, an underbarrel flamethrower that literally gives you a means to kill all shields without switching weapons. The exclusive set for this just ain't worth it to me though, higher ammo capacity in trade of not a whole lotta damage.

The AWP is a bolt action sniper so I generally don't give a damn about it.
