Overall serviceable incremental game but i feel like it misses the mark in a few places.

First, the core "dopamine hit" of the game ceases to be the point midway through. To keep it brief, by moving around the play area you grow grass, the more grass you can grow, the more resources you gain per run. However after a dozen or so prestige levels, just running back and forth in the same patch of grown grass becomes the safest, and most efficient way to progress, and in the late game, the entire field is grown near instantly, then the only goal is to exist in the game space while resources are produced, and to expand on that point....

Second, the upgrades that come towards the end of the game take far, far too long to accumulate resources for. This is exacerbated by the fact that said resources are grown from flowers at a fixed rate, meaning that both the slowest and fastest way to accumulate them, is just to exist in the levels with no thought or strategy. It seriously feels like 80% of the upgrades i had left to buy required yellow resource, which i hadn't been able to improve the collection of since the first 20 minutes of the game, and to my knowledge never receives any boost. Spending 10 minutes in a run would afford me maybe 1 level of an upgrade while at prestige level 25 or endless mode, which is waaaaay overturned.

Lastly, and the most personal gripe, having buttons that say "coming soon" in what is marketed as a finished game rubs me the wrong way. I get that this is a solo dev, single idea exploration type of game, but you step into some murky water when you have a menu where 8/10 options are grayed out and say coming soon. To be clear to anyone who hasn't played, I'm referring to the skin menu, fully cosmetic as far as i know, so this is much more of a psychological and intent issue rather than game continuity/content. That said, the dev has done an OUTSTANDING job pushing out patches and addressing issues with their game, the game's performance went from <30 FPS on my 4060 to a steady 144 after the patch. With that in mind, I'm convinced the the dev will deliver more patches, add the aforementioned skins, and maybe even more free content. I just want to bring it to the developers attention that the existence of steam early access inherently casts a reverse shadow of expectation on "finished" games to not have construction zones packed in at launch.

5/10, would recommend to people looking for bite sized incremental games, but certainly not as an intro to the genre

Far too short and too few ideas for the asking price in my opinion.

That said, separating the game from its price tag allows it to breath as a novel and fun hour long experience. The additional mechanics that the game did introduce felt like natural expansions on the core of the game and made each area feel denser. The core mechanic of moving the slow boat around cramped environments seemed like it was going to be frustrating but actually turned out to be enjoyable, never truly feeling ponderous or clunky, which is an impressive feat of development in its own right. I'd definitely like to have a reason to replay the game, an alternate game mode, challenge run or some sort of expansion, even if it's paid DLC, because more than anything i am just left wanting to play more of this game.

All in all, weighing the fact that this is the developers first marketed game, that they effectively jumped feet first into game dev (read their blog posts it's wild) and that i deeply enjoyed what little time i did get to play of this game, it's a solid 7/10

Hazelight can only make 10/10 games i swear. I could play a dozen more games of this formula and still have a great time.

Also my god that ending sequence was a cut above even for these developers.

10/10 and my GOTY

Good game overall.
I have a few complaints but for a 1 play session incremental game that costs a couple bucks, it's well above board.

First, there's about a 1 second delay when changing between shop/skilltree/reward menus. Probably imperceptible for most people but when you know what upgrade you're going for its a pretty noticeable snag in the game play loop.

Second, as soon as i got 10 units the actual combat devolved into 1 strategy. Just spamming all of them down in the center of the screen seems to be the best strategy for just getting some resources and going to the next run. Again, for a 2 hour indie game this isn't unreasonable, but i would have liked to see some sort of combination mechanic for the units to keep the quantity down. Let's say 10 of them combine into 1 with 12x the stats, reduces the amount of clicking to get a run started and making the placement stay relevant.

Lastly, i would have liked to see some sort of indicator of what upgrades unlock further options. This is the most minor gripe considering you can just buy it and move on the a different path, but with some of the upgrades opening up at 5/10 on the previous, it would have been good to have a little indicator on the edge to show which ones going deeper.

All in all the style is good, power scaling feels solid and has a few unique ideas the make it stand apart from games like Max Manos and Nodebuster. 8/10

A competent though short and simplistic exploration game. The progression feels quite good and all the achievements are reasonable to obtain. The ending sequence of the game is a bit goofy and out of place but it doesn't make the game worse, just doesn't do much to elevate it. 2ish hours for $5 is verging on too much for a relatively bare bones game design wise, but it was a novel enough concept that i feel it gets a pass. 7/10

Outstanding movement game with simple but very satisfying gunplay. Not quite to Ultrakill levels of weapon synergy, but the advanced gunplay mechanics feel right at home and tailored to the game. The perk system is hardly mentioned in any reviews or promotional material, which is a damn shame, as some of the perks are extremely fun to toy with. Takes around 8 hours to 100% if you're taking your time. Last thing I want to mention is a feature I love in games, there is a built in collectible tracker that makes having a guide open to complete the game completely unnecessary. It's a wonderful feature that really seals the deal on the idea that this game just wants you to have a blast. 10/10, looking forward to the updates.

Great game that suffers from a brutal combination of aging somewhat poorly and creating a niche of games that is now painfully oversaturated. Ubisoft not only milking the Far Cry franchise for more than all it has + structuring all their open world games around the same "Climb tower, clear bases, clean up collectibles, repeat" formula makes it easy to forget what Far Cry 3 did and how awesome it was to play for the first time. This game won't blow you away if you've played any open world collectathon contemporaries, but if you go into it to see where the DNA that inspired 50+ games comes from, you'll probably like it a lot.

Urban legends require you to get 3 stars, some of these stars require you to use less than a certain amount of revives, your bots dying and reviving each other use these revives and cause you to lose stars. Made 3 attempts at this legend on NORMAL difficulty, and the bots getting slaughtered ruins the ability to get 3 stars and the associated achievement. Games alright im just pissed
