now that summer events are a thing, is it possible to have a version of this map without the christmas decorations?
i think random present shoved all over just doesn't look right
also if this somehow got added it will get banished to the smissmas rotation,only to be played just for 1 month!

The pl_millstone_event exists already on your machine as Hellstone. To run this millstone, you need to subscribe as you did and type into the console:
map workshop/795101929

or you can go into STEAM\steamapps\workshop\content\440\795101929 and move the file from there to your tf/maps folder and then just find the map from menus to play it.

New update out to the map. Now even more christmas decorated and several visual and some gameplay issues resolved. Perhaps you will see maps like this one in future smismass updates. If one ever gets done again, rather than some of the maps you saw in it in 2020. I do hope it would be included in the game, because its a solid map, tested competitively even and plays good.

This map has always been a bit special for me, as it was the first TF2 map i ever created. Its been aged in 10 years quite a bit. Thanks to everyone who has been with be along this journey.

That being said, i know competitive community rather has gameplay over visual. But the balcony you suggested, would propably look ugly when covered with slanted roof. Players usually learn out anyway which areas area accessible and which are not with 1 jump so i'd rather not change that rooftop for now.

I actually have tested the suggestion you have for the sniper sightline, If i understood you correctly. This basically also nullifies the BLU snipers sights towards the last and RED snipers sights towards the 4th. Makes it a lot easier for BLU to push on. There are only few limited ways forth and back at the last, so it makes BLU more dominant on that area.

Map designing is not always easy and theres more than 100 versions of this map out there. This is the oldest map that i have done, started 8 years ago and slowly been refined into a better map. Even better playing than the halloween version thats already in the game while this isnt. (1/2)

Hello, ICS!! I'm a huge fan of Millstone. Been one since I first played it in highlander. As an engineer enthusiast there is no shortage of creative plays I can make, although the one portion of the map I have always believed could be improved on was the last point. As I'm sure you know, sniper is a very dominant class in TF2, and having to constantly play around a class that can take you down from any range can be quite frustrating. I feel like last greatly exemplifies how dominant the red sniper can be due to the vast sightlines, even with the large shack in the middle, due largely to the fact that with proper coordination there is little that can contest him aside from an opposing sniper.

Something I would like to suggest would be to move the shack and the path next to it that leads to red spawn slightly closer to the 4th point in order to slightly impede the red sniper's sightline on players that are pushing out of 4th into last. This allows the blue team to push further into last without having to rely solely on their sniper or other pick classes to take out the main threat when pushing. Another much smaller suggestion is purely cosmetic and in no way affects gameplay significantly. The top balcony on the shack in the middle looks as if it were accessible via explosive jumping, although that is not the case. I suggest removing it or replacing it with a slanted roof so as to not confuse players who attempt to take high ground. Thanks for reading and again I really love this map. :)

A major update is out to the map! We discussed the changes to the map and played it while back with the UGC test team and this is the result of those talks. Please let me know any issues you find. Thanks!

Millstone is also 3rd map played in Experimental Highlander League at http://exp.rgl.gg/Public/Articles/Default.aspx?a=1178 on December 15-16th 2018!

So Valve dude released beta branch for TF2 that fixes this packing texture error. Map is fine now and runs on the server 89.166.50.126:27015

As long as this version remains broken, there is no point because the ground looks pink black. I will update the server and the map when the fix is out from Valve. It should be in the next TF2 update.

There is currently an issue with the map and all maps uploaded to the workshop. Reflective textures will turn into black/purple textures. Valve is aware of the issue and fix will arrive with the next update.

I just updated this map with new changes, and it also suffers from the same problem.

Actually the halloween stuff never was on this particular map. This is the original, from which the halloween version was made of. But it's good to know that it's awfull map, yet you do not say why.

Thanks guys for the input and comments. I'll have a look at some things brought up here and see if i can do something to improve those.

@ketchup: does it matter if it's snowy or not? Because despite of it, framerate is as fine as it would be without it and you can clearly see where players are anyway.

Another thing. On B in the brick building in the lower area that is blocked off until blue captures B, there is a half barrel crate. If an engineer places their tele exit on the crate and someone takes the teleporter, they get stuck. While not significant, you might want to consider adding a func_nobuild

However, its heavily flank orientated, so if you were to change anything, limit the flank a little bit!

I released a patch to the map, now the bots work on any server, regardless if the server uses the workshop version, you as a player load the map as "map workshop/795101929" from your own console. So no more copying from workshop directory to maps directory!

Great map but the snow doesn't look natural on some places, for example roofs and every single wooden plank you tried to put snow on, but this could easily be fixed by making your own blend-textures. if you dont know how to do that, just look it up. its not that hard.

On third point and on the decline from blue spawn to first there are pieces of corrugated metal that are not solid and are close enough to the cart that a demoman can hide stickies in the corrugated metal and clear anyone on the cart. I dont know if this was intentional, but I dont think its the best for gameplay.

Probably the worst map in UGC history... I've gotten stuck in the map 4 times during scrims and gotten stuck in enemy players 5 times... At one point me and the enemy med were stuck in eachother and he got 2 saws on me becasue I litterally couldnt run away... UGC fucked up this season really bad
