Will this work with Theme Mixer 2 mod since the Terrain Themes mod is obsolete/NLA?
Matok1971 13 Aug, 2019 @ 10:15pm
I have a problem. I go to subscribe to this so that I can try it out and it tells me I need the Terrain Themes Mod. That mod is {OBSOLETE} now. Is there a way to make this not dependant on the mod?

Just wanted to say that I love the idea with the flower oil texture!

Hi! Is there any chance that you could share cliff textures? pm for ex.
Cheers!

Great texture for the Rauma map indeed:)

There is no need to make an update, all previously existing biomes (Boreal, Temperate, European, Tropical) are still available. The Winter theme will need different textures. However, cliff and rocky sand textures from this mod look good in Snowfall environment. So maybe I'll make a winter version :)

Update for Snowfall?

Wow. Awesome work Ennedi!

Thanks. To be honest, I hadn't even looked at the tiling factor. I'll have to look into that. I'll have to mess around with it to see what happens. Your grass and rock textures are so incredibly detailed they look beautiful, I'd like to be able to do that with mine as well.

@Ziggy Birdman part 3:
- If you want to look from the moderate distance (300 - 500 m, this is the distance we take a screenshot of the district, a group of buildings etc.) and if you have cliffs in your field of view, you can decrease the tiling factor to 200 - 250. Cliff will look sharper in that case.
- If you want to make closeups - for example you are taking a screenshot of the rocky shoreline or recreation area with rocks in foreground, try to decrease the cliff tiling factor to 50, it will look great!
The same principle is valid for gravel and pavement. You often want to see them in closeups, they are visible along elevated roads or rail tracks and in some other cases. their tiling factor is only 16, but texture size is 1024x1024! And they look very good. Maybe 512x512 could be enough, you can try :)

@Ziggy Birdman part 2:
I made some experiments yesterday.
- If your texture doesn't have significant details (such as grass or usual sand - not my stones! :) ), it can be 512x512, 256x256 or even a bit smaller (not necessary the power of 2). But its tiling factor (original 35 for grass, 60 for sand) shouldn't be increased.
- If details on your texture are important (such as for my cliff), the texture shouldn't be smaller than 1024x1024. The more the better
And now the tiling factor is important:
- If you want to look (take screenshots) from large distance - let's say one city tile (2 km), you should keep the original tiling factor (400). The same for very large distance ie. if you look across the map, 2-3 city tiles or more. From this distance you don't see details anymore, ingame rock decorations and lighting play the main role in this case. But if you would decrease the tiling factor, you would see repetitions on large rocky walls unless your texture would be very uniform.

@Ziggy_Birdman:
- Of course you can use my textures in your theme! :) As I wrote in the description above I used MrMiyagi's grass and gravel (and pavement) textures too.
- I don't know which maps your theme will be intended to, but if it will be related with the New England landscape, there will not be huge rocky walls there. So if mountains will be lower and rocky walls smaller, try to change the tiling factor for cliff (in Terrain Themes Creator). I would suggest to decrease it to 250. This way you will have sharper details at moderate distance and a bit better look at the foreground. But don't decrease the texture size! :)

@Ennedi I see what you mean about the textures. I tried smaller res with the cliff and gravel and it really didn't look good at all. I hate that it requires us to have bigger file sizes as a result, but you gotta decide which is a better priority.

Your cliff texture here is almost identical to what the mountains look like here in Maine, I may use it for my New England theme, if that's okay. Not sure yet. I like how you got creative with the sand and grass (rocks and flowers etc). I'll have to look into that. I bet people could get really creative.

I wish we could have two 'sands'. So people can have sand and rocks or sand and snow. It would look really good for my NE theme since southern Maine has a lot of sandy beaches but the rest of the coast is mostly rocky.

@Ennedi that would be so cool! I tried myself but ea Terrain Party results were crap. If you manage I will be over the moon happy :) I came from there 3 days ago and it was gorgeous there I wish I could have it in the game. If anyone would be able to create Tatra mountains Electric Railway trains for the game that would be cool :)

Same here. It's a learning process. I just started making my own as well. I'm working on a New England theme now using the European biome. Not sure how this one will turn out. All the games I've played so far have been with the tropical biome.
Ennedi  [author] 1 Feb, 2016 @ 2:48am
@ZiggyBirdman: You are absolutely right. It wouldn't be good to decrease the cliff texture size below 1024x1024 (and I think it should be even larger if the tiling factor is equal to 400), but all other textures can be decreased. It will need more experiments and adjustments both with texture sizes and their tiling factors in the game (grass, sand, pavement, gravel etc.), but I'm going to do it both with already published mods and another ones which I will publish in future. This is still an experimental stage for me :)
ConureGuy_411 1 Feb, 2016 @ 1:57am
I love both your mods. But just an FYI for the future, if you decrease the pixel size of your textures you can greatly cut down on file size (using 900x900 or less) vs the 1024 or 2048. Some textures may not show up as good, so you have to try out different sizes. I only take that into account because I have a lot of mod themes. :)

This really reminds me of the Norwegian mountan plains. Where no threes grow and only small bushes and some vegetation cover the rocks here and there. Will try it! :)

Thank you for so beautiful terrain tehme Ennedi :)
I'm already enjoying to your land.

@mrmichael: Yes, this is one of my ideas :). I made a High Tatra map with the help of Terrain Party software, but this is not so easy to achieve a true realistic effect. First, because of poor resolution of satellite images (and the game terrain resolution is not much better :) ), second - because of the limited height of CS terrains (1024 m). the "raw" map needs also some erosion and other details, I hope I will be able to create them following an excellent MrMiyagi advice from his tutorial (Wilbur software). Maybe it will be a little advantage I know Tatra Mountains very good, I climbed there when I was younger and I even passed a Tatra topography exam in the climbers' school :). We will see, it will need some time...

Beautiful!!! I'll send you the heightmaps if you like, as mentioned on the FB group. Mr Michael, let's see if we can convince Ennedi to make one! :) Added this and your other new terrain theme to the collection

would be great if you could create Tatra mountain realistic map! I love Tatras
ConureGuy_411 30 Jan, 2016 @ 6:00pm
Looks very nice! Can't wait to see it in-game!
