I don't think subscription order ever makes much of a difference. The load order of mods is determined by the mods themselves. This mod is coded to load after AVIAN, so it will always do that.

I haven't added proper support for Frackin Universe's BYOS tech stations yet, so if you're using one in your ship, that may explain the inconsistencies. AVIAN has no support for FU's SAIL menu either, so if you have FU installed then NEKI will handle all of the FU tech station features. AVIAN should still appear in the Vanilla SAIL menu, if you click on it.

Additionally, you may have some mods that create quests I haven't added support for, which may be why AVIAN is appearing in them instead of NEKI.

AVIAN support is kind of a mess internally, and I've been considering splitting it into a separate add-on. I wish I could fix all this more easily, but I'm not much of a coder, and Starbound has its limitations.

Um, more info on cross-mod interaction with A.V.I.A.N. please? I have both and it's a mess. I have tech stations resprited as A.V.I.A.N. ones, but interacting with them shows N.E.K.I. avatar, comments are always from N.E.K.I. , but quest images sometimes have A.V.I.A.N. image attached to them.
Did I do something wrong? Does the order of subscription matters (I subscribed to A.V.I.A.N. first and to N.E.K.I. after)?

Okay so Starbound is a better game but I've been having fun with the Less Quality More Content one, Ground-bound (Terraria) so I hadnt seen this.

I can answer that, as I maintain Cutebound.
Cuetbound's SAIL isn't a full-on SAIL replacement, but a re-skin of the vanilla SAIL - therefore N.E.K.I should simply override it entirely, if the load order is correct :)

How does this interact with the Cutebound S.A.I.L, I know that in the description you say that "This mod replaces every race's SAIL, including modded ones." but does that mean that it replaces the cutebound S.A.I.L? In my limited experience with them both before just going back to N.E.K.I. I got the impression that A.V.I.A.N. would speak on some things, N.E.K.I. would speak on others, and they'd have some dialogue together/with each other that I never saw

This mod is adorable and I love it! I apologize in advance if this was already asked/covered and I missed it, but in regards to N.E.K.I.'s compatibility with A.V.I.A.N., will they both have dialogue for the majority of events or is it usually just either one or the other with the occasional interaction between them?

NEKI replaces any dialogue that AVIAN does not, which is mostly stuff regarding mechs, as well as mod support.
Otherwise, sometimes, you'll have NEKI speaking to you, other times you'll have AVIAN speaking to you, and other times NEKI or AVIAN will have something to add when the other one speaks.
So yeah, NEKI replaces some of AVIAN's dialogue and vice versa, meaning you won't get to see absolutely all the dialogue from one or the other.

I’ve never used either NEKI or AVIAN before, but have a vague idea of how one or the other might work on its own. I have to ask, how DOES them coexisting work when it’s just those two and no relevant addons? Do they talk one after the other, do they switch, is there a chance you could miss interactions with one ore the other by using both at once?

What? Oh, for goodness’ sake. I think the OpenStarbound server is somehow acting up over a feature I haven’t even finished adding. I was planning to put that in a separate add-on anyway. I’ll fix that next chance I get.

Because after the update on September 30th,
When I use the server driver of openstarbound, it crashes saying that it can't find nonEKI's hologram in the object.
It works fine in single.
Also, the server runs fine when I use the backup mode from August 20th.
I'm holding my breath until this issue is fixed.

And when I looked inside the mod file, the comment "I'm hungry" was pretty cute.

Try entering admin mode (/admin) and entering this command:

/radiomessage pickupthrowinggnome2

If it plays, that means NEKI detects AVIAN's presence, which should mean it's working. If this doesn't work, it means something is broken. Either way, would you be able to post some of the .log files from the "storage" folder in your Starbound game files to Pastebin [pastebin.com] and link them here? This will help me figure out exactly what's going on.

AVIAN will by default be your ship AI, but your radio messages should, if it’s working right, be a mixture of AVIAN and NEKI.

The language used to program Starbound mods (JSON) lets you perform a "test" operation, which checks for the presence of code from another mod. You can use this to add certain features to your mod that only run if you have a certain other mod installed with it.
You can also perform a "replace" operation to replace code with your own. This is what you do to overwrite vanilla features, or another mod.
Using these two operations, I wrote some code in my mod's files that first checks for AVIAN's presence (test operation) and then overwrites any necessary code to add compatiblity (replace operation). Starbounder has a page detailing it here, [starbounder.org] but it's hard to understand without first getting the basics.
