Rimtroid Universal is being updated for 1.5 right now, alongside some new creatures, resources, and refinements. An update in the near future should be likely.

@Serenzah Graves Yes. It is a very ambitious and a project dedicated to feeling like metroid, and the amount of coding expertise it needs to be lore-accurate has been massive. Little segments have been updates here and there, but most of it is still outdated 1.3 code.

A delay has happened due to moving, and I will not be able to update this mod for 1.5 in the time frame I wanted (tomorrow). So this, and my other mods, will be updated as soon as possible. In the meantime you can try to see if this mod works in 1.5, but I cannot guarantee it will.

Rimtroid: Universal will be updated ASAP to bring in the content it has into 1.5, then will get a couple new additions shortly after.

@ParasiticSquid the ambition for something that drastic is way, wayyyy too out of scope for this mod in particular. While this mod has many plans, I also don't want it to get so complex that it becomes problematic to maintain and update. The intention for this mod is to make sure Metroid content is always available, and always updated.

That is what happened to Evolution; the metroids in this mod are quite simple, but in Evolution they were very different: they evolved to other metroids types, they drained life from anything alive, they even had hives and orchestrated raids. But that was so complex that it's constantly had update problems and delays.

The plans around X, alongside anything like Ing, or Pirates, or Phazon, or whatever else, do have their concepts and are plans on the Discord. But if they are to appear in this mod they'll only be very surface level, until they get their own massive, fully fleshed out spotlight later on.

Since metroid-human hybrid is planned, what about X? A player is just playing the game when a letter mentioning weird wildlife behavior happens. No other info, not even which animal. In reality a random wild animal got infected with a X and is trying to infect the rest of the map over time. When it dies it spawns a X carrying a generated gene/hidden hediff with a fraction of it's hosts stats that is applied to the next host. More past hosts a single X has the stronger it's current host like how it worked in the BSL when they mutate/merge DNA. All X hosts are added to a hidden hostile faction similar to zombieland zombies. Some infected colonists might even still act like normal ones until a event similar to traitors happen to reveal they are a X. Metroids are able to detect and dispatch X hosts and human-metroids are immune to infection and absorb a small part of the X previous hosts hidden stats.

Could work in a rimworld gameplay context doing it like that, right?

@vincent_calgari metroid-human hybrid will eventually happen, because it's a canon thing. It probably won't be in this mod though.

As for custom metroids, that - and them being very adaptable - are reasons.

Also if you want lore to explain your custom metroids you can say Archotechs fucked around with exposing them to Uniqe and exotic energies that in Metroid lore can cause wired mutations in them can it?

@BICK nothing that silly or generic. Custom and Exotics have a lot of thought put into them.
Let's just say Evolution has a mere 33 planned in total, with a good few of them coming to this mod (eventually).

@Mismagius both. The two shown exotic metroids appear in a non-canon manga. However, a couple original designs that actually fit in well are also classified as exotic.

Finally glad to see a fun creative mod that isn't just you're ordinary anime mod no#208367 other than creative expanded and some other mods out there. hope to see how this mod develops

@Darian Stephens Sadly, they are just space pets at the moment. However the code I have that makes Metroids... well, Metroids, is being updated from 1.2 to 1.4. It's quite complex and large code so it's taking a good while.

Once it is updated though, they will be given some new traits and quirks that make them stick out from everything else. Life Draining and Evolution, at least!

Sounds cool, Metroid was always an interesting series to me.
But... what does this mod do? It says it includes some arm cannons and Metroids, but what impact do they have on gameplay? I can guess what the arm cannons do, but the Metroids? Surely more than animals or whatever?

After sifting through content with Sepphoris it *seems* to be scrubbed of anything Owen did directly but I'm only human and can be wrong. Owen if you have future claims or problems please reach out to me directly on Steam and we'll sort this out.

Do be careful though, Nintendo doesn't play nice to claims regarding their IP so make sure it's only direct efforts of yours.

is there another metroid mod up for 1.4 already? from the outside looking in, it seems like youre upset about not being asked permission while receiving an apology. for someone who made an updated working version of your old mod no less. maybe thats not the case, but thats how youre coming across rn and its only fair you get to say your side

@SepphorisVT As of this moment you still have not removed my assets from your mod. Mile's mod is an auxiliary mod, and quite different to what you did. There were no requests to update my mod after 1.2 until two days ago. When I requested to remove the assets before the DMCA, you deleted the comment. Again, all you had to do is ask first.

Well that was really a stupid drama, if you are modding, be ready to have your stuff reused, if you want to sell something, don t bring it into the modding community directly. I know artists have right over their art, but not only this drama wasn t helpful, but this guy is never selling art in Rimworld communities anymore.

Very different from other situation in other mod that used LTS licensed content, and LTS was super chill about it, warning the guy that he could have been sued, yet LTS himself got the arts author authorization for the guy to also use his art without the need for payment, and the author authorized. Very, very different approach. That artist will find more people wanting to buy his arts. This artist not.

Anyways, I'm sorry all this unnecessary drama came up, and I apologize for everything I did that was a problem. And I'm sorry both our visions on Rimtroid just couldn't work out together.

All I want now is just to have a Rimtroid mod that has no problems with 1.4 and is properly maintained, and I have no issue hosting and doing the legwork myself. If you are truly done with modding, good luck on whatever the future holds for you.

@Owen people did ask on your mod multiple times for updates. The one update that did happen was Mlie's 1.3. After Mlie updated to 1.3 without you having any issues, I didn't figure you would have a problem if it was brought up to 1.4, and also was given some visual upgrades by somebody who *is* still modding. Why my update offended you is a mystery to me.

But fine, your content was removed once you asked, despite you deciding a DMCA was your best course of action against me in particular. Your own content was just the Varia suit, and that's it. The metroid and arm cannon is my own... and the sounds you had were ripped assets. Those were replaced as well.

I don't mind remaking the Varia Suit if an update with a bit more care beyond adding "1.4" is problematic.

You deleted my comment requesting to remove my assets from your mod. I expect you will delete this one as well. The original Rimtroid mod still works fine, it's just as matter of changing the number from 1.2 to 1.4 so it doesn't flag in your mod list. You could have asked, and I would have done so. I have not played Rimworld in a few years, and only check when I see a comment on the mod. Remove my assets from your mod.

They did not have the courtesy to attempt the first suggestion, which I would have been glad to address and work with. They are almost certainly in violation of that warning in the second notice, as they filed the copyright complaint as something that was infringing on THEIR OWN works. Both Rimworld EULA, and the nature of this mod, do not fall into that one bit. They will likely have some sort of action taken against their account as a result.

I'd say 98% chance nothing happens on my side, and this mod will be just fine. This complaint was made to cause annoyance, and without care or regard to the process or guidelines.

Update: I looked into the DMCA filed against this, and not only is it one without ground, but the person who filed it - the publisher of the 1.2 Rimtroid - have also abused the form and falsified copyright ownership, most likely knowingly.

As stated in the complaint process they would have read:

"Submitting a claim of copyright infringement is a serious legal matter. Before you proceed, you might consider contacting the individual directly to address the complaint. It might be a simple misunderstanding and possible to address without involving proper legal process.

Be aware that under Section 512(f) of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, any person who knowingly materially misrepresents that material or activity is infringing may be liable for damages."

@Mike Oxlong I'm aware, but thank you. Taking out the content they didn't update is more of a show of courtesy towards them. Especially since the entire mod is based on another IP owned by Nintendo, which shouldn't need any explanation.

I will take the longer route and remake the assets and code, instead of using what the 1.2 mod included. I just do hope that this is the only time a false DMCA is filed. If this mod needs new assets and work to be properly updated and consistently maintained, then that is what I will make and provide.

I will say that there's a section in the Rimworld EULA that would allow you to contact Ludeon and ask them permission to repost the mod, and then you can turn around and use that permission to tell the other guy to go pound sand.

"You own the Derivative Works you create. However, by creating any Derivative Work, you agree to grant Ludeon a licence to use, copy, modify, adapt, distribute, and publicly display all those Derivative Works for any purpose, without any payment or notice to you, anywhere throughout the universe (the “Derivative Licence”). This Derivative Licence is irrevocable and lasts forever. You also agree to let Ludeon sell, assign, or sublicense the Derivative Licence to other people so that they may use, copy, modify, adapt, distribute, and publicly display your Derivative Work."
