Check out this person's scripting-function (no mod); it provides a more reliable, drop-in way to find the planet that functions regardless of changed gravity-falloff or other mods:

Can i somehow set the periasis and apoasis? Thrusters contiunously fireing to hold altitude on an eccentric orbit what isnt good.

@thecodeking91 You're probably not in a planets actual gravity field (where your alt. is displayed and you can't jump), I think Real Orbits changes the gravity falloff, as in how far you are actually affected by nat. gravity, but not the size of the gravity field itself (if that makes sense). I think that's why the dev made the Real Orbits ready solar system(s).

I am trying to use this script with the Real Orbits mod. It is telling me to enter a planet's sphere of influence, although the game's HUD shows that I am being affected by 0.34 Gs of natural gravity. Is there any way to fix this?

Thank you for the wonderful script Renener. This makes playing with Real Orbits so easier as I no longer needing to remote control my rockets to a stable orbit for building a comm sat network (^_^)b

If I wanted to tell the script to go to the altitude specified in the input section but maintain the current direction/angle of orbit, how would I achieve that?

I also modified the script to transmit the 3d map of the satellites position to LCDs in my main base.

Nice mod when paired with Real Orbits. I put a bunch of satellites around my planet with ore detectors and they sniff out all the goodies.

i cant get it to display the orbit or stats on screens, i names them properly and i recompiled and ran the script multiple times and everything else works fine

There should be a line in the script where it looks for a block named "OrbitController". You can probably change that to whatever name you have in mind.

After a few minutes the script just stops and ask for SOI and then it comes back after sometime. Sometimes crashing on the planet. Any known reason for that?

Does this script have any issues if it were placed on a subgrid like a rotor based large to small grid adaption to make a detailed cockpit? The issue I am encountering is that the PB on the subgrid of a large to small rotor won't display the "OrbitDisplay" on a text panel which is on a hinge subgrid attached to the aforementioned rotor grid. Hope that wasn't too confusing...

yeah there is a problem with how the game defines the gravity well and when you can access it through code. There was a problem with one of the newer planets as well (not sure if that was fixed) where those areas don't match, so you might see gravity affecting you ship, but the program can't do anything with it. I assume modded planets would have the same problem. Unfortunately there is nothing I can do about it :(

The script doesn't care about the gravity falloff at all, it just uses the force of gravity at whatever height it is at to calculate how fast to go. If the real orbits mod changes the force of gravity at any given height it should already work just like that, but I haven't used it myself so I can't confirm that.

Does this script have functionality with the Real Orbits mod? Like, is there somewhere in the script that can have the default gravity falloff value changed (Real Orbits changes it from 1 -> 2) and have it still work?

I would love to use this script in tandem with Real Orbits since Real Orbits packages a lot of functionality with an easy to edit Config.xml file and a solid updating UI text readout for changing your orbit. But I also want the awesome LCD visualization capability of your script so I can turn off Real Orbit's drawn in-game orbital path lines (which are messy and take me out of the game a bit compared to a nice path drawn on a screen from your script).

Maybe the orbit is too high? I'm not sure what the numbers are for different planets but try reducing the orbitheight value, that might help.

im trying to make this awsome script work on a ship but when activating it in the orbit of earth it always kicks me out of the gravitation range and lets me fly off where ever, need help :)

Basically we just want the script to be able to register gravity drives in addition to the normal ones and maybe create a toggle to switch between gravity only, thrusters only, and hybrid
