1) Well, yes. But as this is for myself and I don't have another reptile species yet, it doesn't matter to me. I'm working on a humanoid species changing the HUM species class and they do not work together with another one I have. I just did a quick search but didn't find any solution. I will have to dig deeper on how this might be solved once I'm actually done editing the portraits. The modding tutorial that adds a new fungoid species I've been looking at in the beginning doesn't give any hint.
3) I'll send you a dropbox link as pm where I've uploaded the files to.
1) If you did what I think of adding them to the "original" species_classes file. The problem with that is the compatibility with other mods that modify the same base file.
2) That sounds interesting. Following the idea that they would have separate species_classes; I could add a variation where the two species merge like you said. (avoiding random generation for basic species or the merged one, or both)
3)I would like you to pass me the files and accept my request to be able to add you as a collaborator. Your modifications look great and I would like to incorporate them.
Now, why am I telling you all this? As said, it was a lot of work and I'd like to upload it for others to enjoy, with credit of course. Reading the comments, though, I feel you might not be delighted by that despite asking for permission. If you don't want me to upload my changes, I could give you the files to see if you'd like to incorporate any of it into your own mod here.
btw. I only got your mod to run on 2.5.* once I extracted the archive and removed the archive lines in the mod file from the documents/.../mod folder as well as the descriptor.mod file in the according workshop/content/... folder.
Cheers
I weighed up pros and cons of this merge (you may not like two different dinosaur species thrown into one) but after all we're not actually talking dinosaurs but sentient sci-fi spacefaring creatures from distant stars so in the realm of fantasy, anything is possible. And I very much prefer that interspecies merge with sexual dimorphism to two separate ones without. Sure, I could have created a diverse sex for the both of them with own adjustments but it was a lot of work as is already.
There are things I liked less, though, so I changed it for myself.
1) I removed the new species class dromaeosauridae and moved them over to the reptile class. The problem with new species classes is they need a new city and ship appearance. If you use an existing graphical_culture like you did with the reptilian one, the reptilian city and ship appearance is suddenly renamed to dromaeosauridae ship / city.
In this case the only thing I do when updating is changing the number of the compatible version in .mod... Nothing really changes, only that the popup of the launcher does not appear for mods.
Then I'll add the random names.
