Ra Horakhti,

No, only the late mutazlites were incorporated into sunnism.

Mutazilism was NEVER sunni, on the contrary, they regarded sunnism as heretic.

Ok these are the major islamic sects in history together with a description of their tendency in thought:

1 Sunnism split into:

Hanafism (legalistic pragmatic)
Shafiism (legalistic dogmatic)
Malikism (legalistic traditionalist)
Hanbalism (legalistic scripturalist)

2 Shiism split into:

Ja'farism (legalistic pragmatic)
Ismailism (messianic idealistic)
Alevitism (sectarian idealistic)

3 Mutazilism (rationalistic)

4 Kharijism (rationalist anarchistic)

5 Ibadism (rationalist traditionalistic)

6 Murji'ism (pragmatic rationalistic)

@Birdy

I have never tested it myself, but I have been told that my religion mods work with the CP.
Ra Horakhty 20 Dec, 2015 @ 12:00pm
Faysal, Mu'tazila were Hanafi Sunnis.
Jaeger 12 Nov, 2015 @ 8:11am
where is the hanefi's??
Yilmaz1001 13 Aug, 2015 @ 2:27pm
The sword is much more representative of the Alawites, and not Shia in particular, maybe the al-quds would be a better symbol for shia?
Faysal 17 May, 2015 @ 8:39am
that is correct tomatekh :) but u should really really really increase the non-sunni non-shia extinct Mutazilite sect!

These rationalists, and NOT the sunni/shia, were responsible for islams golden age!
Tomatekh  [author] 16 May, 2015 @ 8:44pm
I purposefully did not include Sufism, as it’s not really a separate denomination but more an esoteric tract within the religion. There are Shia Sufis, Sunni Sufis, etc.
SynthRose 19 Apr, 2015 @ 6:39pm
I believe you forgot Sufism!
Tomatekh  [author] 24 Mar, 2015 @ 9:22pm
It’s in the steam install files, not the mod. I suggest keeping a backup of the original file if you intend to edit it.

Faysal 3 Mar, 2015 @ 4:49pm
Where is the CIV5Worlds.xml file? Cant find it./
Faysal 3 Mar, 2015 @ 4:48pm
The mu'tazilites are by far the most important group in whole of islamic history. Would love to see them activated once. Beware; they were NO sect of kharijites or ibadi's.

Tomatekh  [author] 27 Feb, 2015 @ 1:15pm
Yes, you need to edit the <MaxActiveReligions> entry for each map size in the CIV5Worlds.xml file of the base game. However, it is actually possible to not have enough beliefs, which will break game, so make sure your game can support how ever many religions you want to be founded.
Faysal 21 Feb, 2015 @ 11:09am
Is it posible to have more than 7 religions in game?
Tomatekh  [author] 13 Jan, 2015 @ 4:17pm
Just to note, I uploaded a minor update to the mod. No changes, it was only to correct the preference for More Civ's Kilwa mod (recently updated here: http://sp.zhabite.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=159623955) .

The update should work fine with old saves.
Tomatekh  [author] 18 Dec, 2014 @ 9:43am
You said it yourself "Wahhabis and Salafis are Sunnis, etc." At the moment the mod does not aim to subdivide the religion past the core groupings of Sunni, Shia, Khawarji/Ibadi (i.e. attempt to include the denominations of the denominations). In the future I may do a Sunni Denominations mod or a Shia Denominations mod similiar to what I did for Protestantism (seperate from my Christian Denominations mod). Druze I consider a seperate but related religion from Islam (and not a denomination) and would go in my larger Historical Religions mod.
DarkKnight 15 Nov, 2014 @ 11:20am
Wahhabis and Salafis- they are Sunnis, but they are radical- why not include one of them? Before the term Salafism was appropriated and misinterpreted by extremists, it used to mean a reform minded, open Islam in Egypt during the 19th century. What about the Alevis in Turkey and the Alawites of Syria? What about the Druze?
Mr. Steal Yo Kill 26 Sep, 2014 @ 5:31am
lol khawarij aint a sect. its just a term used for those who left the religeon.
Ser Rookie 16 Sep, 2014 @ 3:09am
I didn't know there was an Oman mod. I'll have to look into it now...
However, the Khawarij was a much more powerful and dangerous sect than the Ibadi ever were, and even though they died out long ago, they still have left an echo in the Muslim community today. Even today a lot of scholars are calling ISIS "modern Khawariji", so I'd say maybe they could've been a stronger candidate for a 3rd Islamic Denomination. However they didn't have anything to do with Oman, so cos of that I'd leave it. If you included a fourth (extinct) sect, then there'd be suggestions for other small sects, like the Deobandis (the Taliban), Wahhabis (al-Qaeda), Ahmadiyya, etc. And trust me, it just gets messy...
Ser Rookie 16 Sep, 2014 @ 2:57am
ISIS most likely does, but their theology is closer to the Khawarij, the now extinct sect the Ibadis evolved from. ISIS are identified as Sunni cos their recruits mostly are.
The Khawariji essentially invented what we call Islamic extremism, and said any sin damns you to eternal hell, even if you're a Muslim. Ibadis dropped the "any sin" part. Sunnis believe every human has a spark of belief left in them, and often quote the Qur'an saying that one having belief even in the weight of an atom would give Paradise. Eventually, anyway.
Not trying to sound preachy here, sorry.
indigo blue 12 Sep, 2014 @ 3:14pm
Well that I certainly didn't know - I always thought that Sunni Islam (I wouldn't know, I'm atheist) preached that hell is eternal.
Tomatekh  [author] 11 Sep, 2014 @ 10:13am
You're right. Ibadi is not a very large or well known denomination. However, it is a distinct living branch of Islam so I wanted to include it. Plus, there's a very well done Oman civ mod on the workshop that would suddenly not have a preference if I didn't include it.
Ser Rookie 7 Sep, 2014 @ 6:46pm
Ibadi Islam is a smaller denomination who are mostly found in Oman, making up about 0.18% of the world's Muslims, compared to Sunni's being 90%. As I'm a Sunni myself, the only thing I know for sure about Ibadi's is that they believe people stay in hell forever, whereas most Sunnis believe no one stays there forever. Can't say much else, honestly...
indigo blue 7 Sep, 2014 @ 5:12pm
Especially since ISIS is Sunni....
indigo blue 7 Sep, 2014 @ 5:12pm
How come I've never heard of Ibadi islam? All I ever hear about now is Sunni and Shia/Shiite, ever since this ISIS crap started.
Tomatekh  [author] 1 Sep, 2014 @ 8:20am
Updated: No gameplay changes. Mod converted to SQL to ensure better compatability across all my Historical Religions mods and fix various bugs. If you need the previous version to continue a save, a download link is at the bottom of the description.
DarkKnight 31 Aug, 2014 @ 3:34am
Hi. Should I update your religion mods now?
Tomatekh  [author] 27 Aug, 2014 @ 6:45am
After I do the update (probably this weekend) it is recomended to also update every other religion mod of mine that you use for compatability reasons.
DarkKnight 18 Aug, 2014 @ 11:46pm
does that mean that I have to re-load the Christian denominations mod? that one works.
Tomatekh  [author] 18 Aug, 2014 @ 12:12pm
Internally, I've already rewritten all of my religion mods into SQL. I'm just waiting on a few things before uploading the new versions (should be soon). I believe the new SQL code should address a lot of the problems people were having with missing religions.
DarkKnight 16 Aug, 2014 @ 2:29am
Hello. I didn't see your previous post. Any news?
Meishashier 1 Aug, 2014 @ 8:39pm
I like your this very much. May I help you translate it into Chinese? My friends who can't read English are interested it. I have translated Civ5 MOD before. http://sp.zhabite.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=223084663
Tomatekh  [author] 7 Jul, 2014 @ 8:32am
@LionDeomcrats

I believe I've located the problem; however it appears to be part of a bigger problem where the game ignores any load order specifically programmed into the mods. There are some things I can try which might fix the problem; however it requires rewriting a large part of the code, so I cna't promise I will be able to implement it any time soon.
Ulixes 4 Jul, 2014 @ 4:09am
I already did, thank you. I need as many denominations as possible. Thank you again for your mods, keep up the good work!
Tomatekh  [author] 3 Jul, 2014 @ 1:06pm
Someone wanted Mu'tazili for a scenario, so it's left complete there so that they can easily re-activate it for their mod. However, for the main release, I decided to only include the major living denominations. It's easily enough to re-activate if you want to use it. You just have to remove the two comment lines <!-- and --> that come before and after the <row> </row> of their entry.
Ulixes 3 Jul, 2014 @ 3:57am
Hi Tomatekh, just for curiosity, can I ask why you didn't used Mu'tazili ? (I looked into the files and there is both art and xml)
DarkKnight 24 Jun, 2014 @ 8:09am
I use both Gods and Kings and Brave New World simultaneously.
DarkKnight 24 Jun, 2014 @ 8:09am
brave new world
Mugen 23 Jun, 2014 @ 5:34pm
Nah,I got nothing against Ibadi,I just wanted to state some facts and get behind some reasons.
I did not know about the Oman civ. If I knew this is a big thing,it would had some more sense.
I honestly have to say that I don't understand why Oman should have specificity Ibadi as religion as people don't refer to oman as a ibadi country but more as a islamic country but oh well.
Tomatekh  [author] 23 Jun, 2014 @ 1:41pm
@Yourpharaoh

The inclusion wasn't based on numbers but to include the major living groupings that are distinct from one another. Also, most of the add-ons are used primarily by modders and there is an Oman civ which is being released in the near future which will make use of the religion. Otherwise, it's a simple matter to delete the entry from the XML if you don't what to use one specific denomination.

@LionDeomcrats

I should have asked this earlier, but are you using G&K or BNW. The problem might be specific to G&K games which is why I'm having trouble tracking it down and I rarely play outside BNW anymore.
Mugen 22 Jun, 2014 @ 6:06pm
The problem I have with this mod is that only 0,2% of all Muslims are Ibadi. Sure,it is still the 3rd biggest branch in Islam after Sunni with ca 85% and Shia with around 15% (not sure about the exact numbers there),but it is still only 0,2%.
The biggest concentration of Ibadis is in Oman with around 40% and Oman itself only has around 4 million inhabitants. That's a really little number. And 40% of 4 million is around 1,6 million.
The chances of meeting an actual Ibadi are very low. So,my question here is,is there really that much need to even mention Ibadi?
DarkKnight 19 Jun, 2014 @ 11:20am
:)
DarkKnight 19 Jun, 2014 @ 11:20am
don't worry tomatekh. take your time.
Tomatekh  [author] 19 Jun, 2014 @ 9:27am
@war_instigator501

The religions are treated the same as all the religions in the game, purely aesthetic icons with no religion specific bonuses.

@LionDemocrats

I'm still looking into your problem. I hope to provide more help soon.
SILENCER 7 16 Jun, 2014 @ 2:23pm
Does each have aggression bonuses? Like if I choose Shia is there a fatwa tenant or an infidel massacre tenant?
Tomatekh  [author] 5 Jun, 2014 @ 9:27am
Hmm, it shouldn't as I specifically made all my mods work as add-ons to each other if wanted. If that's the case it might be a bug within the mod itself. I'll look through the mod code again and see if I see anything. I may have accidently listed a line twice (or something small like that).
DarkKnight 5 Jun, 2014 @ 6:25am
Thanks for putting the logging instructions. As far as I know, I only have your Christian Denominations Mod. How can that conflict?
Stella Astarte 5 Jun, 2014 @ 12:13am
An excellent mod. Could you add more denominations such as the Druze and Sufism, and maybe the Shia sects like Ismailism and the Twelvers?
Tomatekh  [author] 3 Jun, 2014 @ 12:47pm
This link has the directions to enable logging:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=487482

But its probably not necessary to go through all that. Are you using any other religion mods? Only mods that edit the religion system can possibly conflict. If I know which ones you're using I can check their files myself.
DarkKnight 30 May, 2014 @ 9:47am
Hi Tomatekh

I don't know how to enable logging and to post my database log.

Can you please elaborate?

And please excuse my lack of knowledge. I am a relatively new gamer.
