No, only the late mutazlites were incorporated into sunnism.
Mutazilism was NEVER sunni, on the contrary, they regarded sunnism as heretic.
Ok these are the major islamic sects in history together with a description of their tendency in thought:
1 Sunnism split into:
Hanafism (legalistic pragmatic)
Shafiism (legalistic dogmatic)
Malikism (legalistic traditionalist)
Hanbalism (legalistic scripturalist)
2 Shiism split into:
Ja'farism (legalistic pragmatic)
Ismailism (messianic idealistic)
Alevitism (sectarian idealistic)
3 Mutazilism (rationalistic)
4 Kharijism (rationalist anarchistic)
5 Ibadism (rationalist traditionalistic)
6 Murji'ism (pragmatic rationalistic)
I have never tested it myself, but I have been told that my religion mods work with the CP.
These rationalists, and NOT the sunni/shia, were responsible for islams golden age!

The update should work fine with old saves.
However, the Khawarij was a much more powerful and dangerous sect than the Ibadi ever were, and even though they died out long ago, they still have left an echo in the Muslim community today. Even today a lot of scholars are calling ISIS "modern Khawariji", so I'd say maybe they could've been a stronger candidate for a 3rd Islamic Denomination. However they didn't have anything to do with Oman, so cos of that I'd leave it. If you included a fourth (extinct) sect, then there'd be suggestions for other small sects, like the Deobandis (the Taliban), Wahhabis (al-Qaeda), Ahmadiyya, etc. And trust me, it just gets messy...
The Khawariji essentially invented what we call Islamic extremism, and said any sin damns you to eternal hell, even if you're a Muslim. Ibadis dropped the "any sin" part. Sunnis believe every human has a spark of belief left in them, and often quote the Qur'an saying that one having belief even in the weight of an atom would give Paradise. Eventually, anyway.
Not trying to sound preachy here, sorry.
I believe I've located the problem; however it appears to be part of a bigger problem where the game ignores any load order specifically programmed into the mods. There are some things I can try which might fix the problem; however it requires rewriting a large part of the code, so I cna't promise I will be able to implement it any time soon.
I did not know about the Oman civ. If I knew this is a big thing,it would had some more sense.
I honestly have to say that I don't understand why Oman should have specificity Ibadi as religion as people don't refer to oman as a ibadi country but more as a islamic country but oh well.
The inclusion wasn't based on numbers but to include the major living groupings that are distinct from one another. Also, most of the add-ons are used primarily by modders and there is an Oman civ which is being released in the near future which will make use of the religion. Otherwise, it's a simple matter to delete the entry from the XML if you don't what to use one specific denomination.
@LionDeomcrats
I should have asked this earlier, but are you using G&K or BNW. The problem might be specific to G&K games which is why I'm having trouble tracking it down and I rarely play outside BNW anymore.
The biggest concentration of Ibadis is in Oman with around 40% and Oman itself only has around 4 million inhabitants. That's a really little number. And 40% of 4 million is around 1,6 million.
The chances of meeting an actual Ibadi are very low. So,my question here is,is there really that much need to even mention Ibadi?
The religions are treated the same as all the religions in the game, purely aesthetic icons with no religion specific bonuses.
@LionDemocrats
I'm still looking into your problem. I hope to provide more help soon.

But its probably not necessary to go through all that. Are you using any other religion mods? Only mods that edit the religion system can possibly conflict. If I know which ones you're using I can check their files myself.
I don't know how to enable logging and to post my database log.
Can you please elaborate?
And please excuse my lack of knowledge. I am a relatively new gamer.
