Hey, is it possible to remove specific traits from rolls?
Specifically the base game traits such as Hunter of Archon or Mutons, etc.
I'm trying to acquire these traits naturally / organically from soldier experience
But I would still like Rookies to roll for positive passive traits like Overseer, Pounce, etc.

So, i find mod which override start soldiers roster and recruited soldiers from barracks, thus preventing them from rolling traits. It "WOTC Team Crafter".
Dragon32 27 Apr, 2024 @ 6:19pm
@Dark
That's not my experience with this mod.
Dark 27 Apr, 2024 @ 12:47pm
@RealityMachina Mod affect only soldiers which spawn as mission reward or POI reward? And mod not affect on start soldiers and recruited soldiers from barracks?
Caine 27 Feb, 2024 @ 5:57am
League Pitcher doesn't work. From what I could find, it gives a 3% boost to throw range, which means nothing. I tried higher settings like 10, 30, 100% and there is zero change in throw distance.

Just finished a campaign with about 685 mods, this one included, and had no major issues! Thanks for putting this up.
Endlesspie49 14 Aug, 2022 @ 6:20am
I don't use the alt mod launcher, but I manage to find it by others ways. Thank for the answer though : D
Pora Bear 12 Aug, 2022 @ 1:27am
@Endlesspie49 Just edit the .ini file, which is easy to find if you ult Alt Mod Launcher
Endlesspie49 7 Jul, 2022 @ 3:55pm
Hello, I have a question, Is it possible to edit the default chance of getting a starting trait? I wanna increase it so it guaranties that all my soldiers gets one.
Dragon32 11 Apr, 2022 @ 6:04am
@FLEGMAT
Have you tried editing the .ini, starting the game and saving, exiting and re-editing the .ini? Probably best to regenerate your user config. files
FleglvlaT 11 Apr, 2022 @ 12:48am
Is there a way to apply the whole starter roaster with traints and after that return to normal percenatages of gain them?
Haywire 23 Aug, 2021 @ 6:49pm
I just meant if the Negative UI elements are editable, can the text be changed to just say, "Trait Acquired" which would work for both types. If not, it's not a big deal. Just need to be sure and read your traits. :-)
EvilPolygons 18 Aug, 2021 @ 4:57pm
Dragon32 is correct. It's a limitation with XCOM2 itself.
Dragon32 18 Aug, 2021 @ 4:15pm
@Haywire; Lux Manifestus
IIRC either the positive trait UI elements don't exist in game, or aren't usable.
Lux Manifestus 18 Aug, 2021 @ 2:09pm
Yes, I am getting 'Negative Trait Acquired' reports (flags and popups) for positive traits. Would be nice to have positive trait acquired mechanics and assets.
Haywire 11 Aug, 2021 @ 12:50am
Yes, Positive traits are listed as Negative on the popups. Maybe the modders should just make it say Trait Acquired, then that would work for either one? Just a thought.
Violentruler10 20 Feb, 2021 @ 6:47pm
I really wanna know if theres a way to give soldiers traits when im not trying to leave it up to RNG. someone with a backstory of "a burning hatred for all chryssalid life-forms" should have a Hunter of Chryssalids trait. I tried GiveTrait and GiveTraitToUnit, but I might be doing it wrong.
EvilPolygons 21 Jun, 2020 @ 5:35pm
@kenanthebarbarian:
Positive traits always show up as negative when they first appear. I think it's a limitation with XCOM2 not allowing modders to add a custom "positive trait acquired" popup. All positive trait mods have this same limitation.
kenanthebarbarian 12 Jun, 2020 @ 4:07am
Will this mod cause all traits to appear as negative on freshly rolled soldiers? I had a soldier roll with Firefighter in a new campaign; it shows up as a negative trait, even though the description makes it sound positive.
Langsley 12 Jun, 2020 @ 3:36am
Weird bug. After the tutorial mission finishes and the movies are done playing, no buttons work anymore. the lab button isn't responsive and pressing esc doesn't bring up the menu. I experienced this same bug after entering the armory to promote Jane Kelly with a different save post tutorial mission.
yes_commander 9 Dec, 2019 @ 2:01am
This works fine for me, I really enjoy it. Just posting to mention that "Insubordinate" is misspelled.
Noob Train 30 Aug, 2019 @ 2:15pm
What are the positive traits? I've played through the game three times and have never seen any on my soldiers.
SuspiciousSeal 4 Apr, 2019 @ 2:38pm
@F23 Ya, I tried that myself. It broke. Only way it seems to get soldier with traits is by scanning, mission rewards, or from the black market. If we knew hot to edit the chance of getting rookies from a scan, and number of rookies you get form a scan, you could still start with barracks full of traited soldiers that way. just round about.
F23 19 Mar, 2019 @ 12:04am
I managed to get one trait with default 10%/10% on soldier that I recruited from starting recruits on default starting barracks and starting recruits. Then after editing chances to 30%/30% and gamedata.ini (or after enabling its just a scratch or avatar buffs or avatar buff's dependable package) it stopped working and not getting traits when buying starting soldiers even if i return to defaults or reinstall the mods or go backwards prior to changes.

My idea was that if starting barracks is unaffected then to decrease starting barracks increase starting recruits and give myself money to buy the soldiers so that they have traits.

Good mod though! Would give a nice flavor.
⚡Judge Zed⚡ 1 Mar, 2019 @ 7:48am
@WaterFowl Looks the same for me too, basically it doesn't seem to be working on soldiers that are generated at the very start of the game. Those in gatecrasher, your starting barracks, and starting recruit pool are unaffected in wotc

Still worth using though.
WaterFowl 1 Jan, 2019 @ 5:32pm
this seems to not work for me. Traits only spawn for soldiers you find doing missions. Does not roll traits for soldiers you recruit/start with
afterthought.btw 21 Oct, 2018 @ 3:56pm
Just got a trait for my newly spawned Reaper.

Pounce.

:steamfacepalm:

CONTINUED::
One of the biggest things I have noticed that by English Language understanding of what is written in the discription, and why it just clicked now, from how it was written in Discription it reads more like like there is a 20% chance of getting either, not combined 20% chance as the statement in the parenthesis trys to say.
AUSGrizzly 24 Sep, 2018 @ 9:29am
Looking at the Scripting and the way it was explained. I feel that the Scripting Comment explains it better...

"New soldiers have a 10% chance of having a negative trait, 10% of a postiive trait, and 80% chance of nothing"

This has a HUGE value of getting nothing, like superlarge.

I would suggest changing it so that its 25% on Neg/Pos with a 50% of getting nothing. As this would give people an instant understanding of if the mod is working or not with early feedback. Which is something I had to check myself. I myself am making this change and seeing how ti feels.

One of the MAJOR draws of mods like this and the previous Valkyria Chronicles inspided "Potentials" mod, was that it allowed for more individuality for the members of your force. No more are they just a class and name and maybe a customized outfit, but that guy is the guy that you know loves to do X job better than anyone else.
thryllth 15 Sep, 2018 @ 2:25pm
The starting soldiers do not appear to be able to gain traits from this mod. I have tried this with a starting pool of recruits of sizes up to 40 and across multiple campaigns and none of them have ever rolled a trait. That aside there is nothing quite like getting a new soldier who can reliably put down vipers or stun lancers and my Templar who had "Hunt the Lost" combined with your Rend the Lost mod made the Horde sitrep a breeze.
Arkhangel 2 Aug, 2018 @ 12:19am
@Reality: apparently this mod's assigning weapon training traits to new guys. not really too bad of a thing, but it is a little weird when your Samurai shows up with Heavy Weapons Training.
SuspiciousSeal 26 May, 2018 @ 4:29pm
really? its supposed to effect yoru starting pool? Never had one effected. I wonder if it doesnt like point based not created equally or something.

@Archwing Ruler go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\268500\1336467124\Config and then open XcomStartingTraits.ini

TennoTea 13 Apr, 2018 @ 11:39pm
So how to change?
MaCC165 1 Apr, 2018 @ 11:02am
yes ty, seens im blind sometimes :-D,
Dragon32 31 Mar, 2018 @ 12:21pm
@RambelZambel:
Er... Yes there is.
MaCC165 31 Mar, 2018 @ 11:57am
i had it once out of 30 soldiers(a krogan), even promoted nothing, sad there is no ini to make the chance higher, starting soldiers never so far
Nikolajgs 26 Mar, 2018 @ 4:38am
i mean it could be possible since i also used the squad loadout mod.
Sumajin 25 Mar, 2018 @ 7:40pm
I dont seem to have them working on my starting soldiers either... new recruits and reward soldiers yes, but not my starting soldiers. Would this conflict with any mods like Not Created Equal or the Squad Loadout mod?
Nikolajgs 25 Mar, 2018 @ 5:04pm
okay good to know. i simply opened up a game at one point and well. none of said rookies had any traits. at all.
RealityMachina  [author] 25 Mar, 2018 @ 3:45pm
It should affect them, yes.
Nikolajgs 25 Mar, 2018 @ 3:15pm
out of curiousity. does this affect your starting pool of soldiers? cause i use the more starting soldiers mod and rarely get new dudes so i just need to know.
Dragon32 24 Mar, 2018 @ 6:12pm
@John Madden:
Look for RM's "Potentials" mod, it's for the base game and similar.
Loggy 24 Mar, 2018 @ 6:04pm
How do I see if my guys have traits?
Sprucelass 24 Mar, 2018 @ 11:31am
Is there a version that works without WotC?
WaterFowl 22 Mar, 2018 @ 11:08pm
this is a great idea. gonna try it out
Majoras 22 Mar, 2018 @ 12:56am
Created a soldier that's meant to be deep storage clone made by ADVENT based on a guy that I managed to hit impossible shots with back in Enemy Within (I'm talking hitting a 0% or 1% shot with crit that saved a team from a wipe levels of impossible); of course he died later on to a lucky floater shot XD. Here's the funny part, the trait he got the moment I got him in my current attempt at Iron/Legend "Archon Slayer" or hunter? Anyway I thought that was beyond funny considering the Archons are meant to be like the cleaned up floaters... Revenge is a dish best served cloned?
Dawnpromise 21 Mar, 2018 @ 1:58pm
Finally, a way to have traits in my game that doesn't involve me making purposefully stupid decisions like setting my guys on fire in the hope for a negative trait that I can trade for a positive. I really loved the execution of your 'potential's for vanilla and was hoping for a WotC version. I guess this is the closest we can get huh?
