Inkbound: A Splatoon Mod

Description
Inkbound is a sprawling mod that brings the world of Splatoon to Starbound. Play as upright cephalopods with rich cultures and histories, explore the galaxy with tons of custom weapons and gear, find friends along the way in new dungeons, and carve out a colorful space of your very own.

(Be sure to check this mod's dependencies, as like other mods that add new playable races, it needs a species extender.)

=================================================

What does Inkbound contain?

- Two new playable races, known individually as Inklings and Octolings, or together as inkfish.
Both have tons of custom content, such as unique pets + S.A.I.L., semi-custom ships, custom hairstyles and color options, fully-tiered armor and weapons made just for them, and so much more.
And even if you don't play as an inkfish, you can find them as NPCs in the wilds, or as tenants in your colonies!

- 200+ custom objects to spice up your space with legendary inkfish flair. A lot of it can be crafted or bought, but some rare treasures have to be learned in special ways... or even found at the bottom of the ocean!
- 40+ custom sets of armor with tiered stats, as well as tons of other clothing items to mix and match. Want to be an idol, an agent, or an Octoling soldier? This mod's got just the gear for you, whoever you want to be.

- 45+ custom weapons that range from tier 1 to tier 6, all based off of the many weapons from the Splatoon series. Any race can use these: no ink required!
- 25+ custom codices all about the lore and lives of these strange cephalopods. These range wildly, from the backstories of famous idol groups, to reflecting on the bloody history of the Great Turf War. All codices are either craftable and/or can be found as planetside items.
- 30+ new food items, 3 new crafting tables, 2 new crops and more: you'll have no shortage of fun new stuff to make. Or, if you prefer taking stuff apart instead, you can use the Octarian Scrap Table to repurpose resources from junk you've collected!

- 2 custom dungeons and quite a few microdungeons. These include not just large NPC settlements with tons of residents and secrets, but smaller habitations too.. including close encounters with dangerous foes.
- A bit of extra fun added to Oceanic planets! These now house different crops, new treasure, and a handful of new residents.

- And even more than I can list here! This mod's been in development for 8 years now, originally released for Starbound v1.0, and so has a ton of stuff in it. It's up to you to discover it all!

Compatibility & Recommended Mods:

As previously stated, this mod requires a species extender for Inklings and Octolings to be playable races.

That said, Inkbound should be compatible with nearly anything.
If any incompatibilities are discovered, please bring them to my attention so I can see if they can be fixed on Inkbound's end.

Here's a list of mods that compliment Inkbound!

- Race Traits
- More Planet Info (Be 100% sure to install the two patches that help this mod work!)
- Paintballs Paint Blocks

- Improved Containers
- Enhanced Storage Patch (Requires base Enhanced Storage: this patch enables it for this mod's contents!)
- BYOS Inkling ship
- Kraken Inkling ship

Understandable. Besides, this mod is already huge and of high quality!
That aside, yes. It sure was an unexpected barrage of news.

And as the time of writing this, all weapon kits have been revealed.
And 6 of the 30 weapons are my new favorites.
I'd say, that's very good! ^^

We do have a LOT of weapons. Any new stuff, ideally, will be made to fit a need-- like any remaining Order weapons, or new weapons for NPC use.
I'm mostly more interested in editing or overhauling gameplay of current weapons: we do have a concept for a roller overhaul, though it needs a lot of testing and fine-tuning before I'll consider implementing it, and we've been chattering about a possible Fizzy Bomb as well.

That said, I will eventually go back through all of the current weapons and distribute new altfire, such as Sprinklers and Point Sensors, to a lot of them.

But, yeah, today was an exciting barrage of news, huh?
Haha, and just as I was saying "I won't consider a Switch 2 until they do more Splatoon stuff"....

So...
Unexpected Splatoon 3 update 10.0.0 with a whopping 30 new kits got revealed!
I highly doubt anything of the sorts will get added in this mod, with that amount of weapons.
As the point of writing this, 15 of the 30 kits have been revealed.
The other half comes later.
And yes, I'm sharing that here because it's very fitting.

In FU, yes, it's only those specific conditions (outlined by Lithoboli below) that gives them waterbreathing.
In Race Traits, they should have waterbreathing in general.
Both of these "suites" of perks were designed by me and then balanced by the authors of those mods!

It's not that they can't handle water; I don't like that about Splatoon proper, I think it's dumb. It's more that they're really sensitive to water quality and temperature, and are a lot more comfortable in some liquids and conditions than others.

The shotgun bonus applies to vanilla shotguns, anything from other mods defined as shotguns, and Splatlings specifically. Both races have their "specialty weapons" that FU gives them bonuses in; the choices for those weapons are based off of a lot of things, including Side Order's weapon associations and what little lore we have about the Great Turf War.

Ohhhhhh okay, thats neat! Thanks for the info! And thanks for the cool mod to you and the others!

So regarding FU stuff, only the splatling weapons are classed as shotguns.

As far as racial bonuses, both species have increased lung capacity but actual breath protection is conditional. The inability to breathe specifically water is intentional.

Being in an Ocean or Ocean Floor biome or immersed in oil, slime, healing water or dark water should grant infinite air.

And/or a confirmation from anyone if this still works with frackin universe as it says they have waterbreathing but I don't seem to be breathing in water. If not I can always just download race traits for this playthrough E

Heyyyy I don't know if its been asked here before so Im sorry if it has and I just missed it when looking, but what ink weapons would count as a "shotgun" for the purposes of the octoling FU bonuses? I'd guess the blasters or sloshers but I wanna make sure before just crafting one

@ Marinebeast

That's true, but since the Neki Pod is usually meant to revitalize the occupant, probably with a water inundated with chemicals to promote cell regeneration, I can see how it'd make sense not too but I don't think it'd be that bad of an idea! All up to you of course, as it's your mod <3 I just think it'd be neat to have that functionality, as the design of the pod is really interesting!

@ summerr

I mean, these guys can breathe water just fine, though they're real sensitive to water quality and any chemicals therein. Slime too since it's sort of a stand-in for ink.... but I'm not so sure about other liquids!
