Downscaled Ships

Description
Compatible with 3.2.*

Compatibility patches:
DLC:
-Aquatic ship set DLC

Mods:
-AI ship set.
-Sins of the Prophets.
-EAC: At War Patch

Graphical mod only. No gameplay changes.

This mod fixes a couple of problems with the default visuals:
  • Fleets are too tightly packed and ships often clip through each other. Once you have a big and especially if you have allies, you can't even tell one ship from another. Not to mention the far bigger mess that two large fleets crashing into each other creates. Downscaling every ship type fixes this.

  • You don't get a proper sense of capital ships and escort ships because the scale between ship classes increases more or less linearly and corvettes for example are just too big compared to battleships. This mod creates a clear distinction in scale between corvettes/destroyers and cruisers/battleships.

  • Turrets are scaled down relative to ship sizes to make ships feel bigger.

  • Engine exhaust trails and some weapon effects are scaled down as well.

  • Also rescaled: starbases, habitats, stations, defense platforms and various creatures and objects around the galaxy.

No trails mod: https://sp.zhabite.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=886734961

Reporting scaling issues:
-Use the console command "tweakergui entity.names" in-game and give me the name of the ship model.

Compatibility/information:
-Multiplayer: every player needs to have this mod enabled.
-Not achievement compatible.
-This mod is not made for improving performance.
-Mod compatibility: mods that add new ship models need a compatibility fix. Otherwise they will look bigger compared to the vanilla ships. See the list below or search the workshop (not all patches are listed here).

Requesting additional compatibility patches:
-It's not complicated to make one but it is tedious (see the tutorial here). I recommend making one yourself by looking at how the other compatibility patches were made.

Change log:
10/12/2017: fixed oversized ship preview images
23/02/2018: rescaled titans, colossi, starbases
24/02/2018: rescaled mining/research/terraforming/observation stations, defense platforms, pirate ships and stations as well as other neutral things around the galaxy, laser beam width
15/12/2018: fixed L gate builder ship sizes

Hi there, also curious if this still works since 4.0 might bring some interesting modding opportunities? Asking on behalf of Xacharias the creator of the Ultra Dreadnought mod as they might update their mod for 2025

Any chance there's a version meant for 1.9?

I love the mod!!! Is there a patch for Gigascructures? the blokkats are just too big that they engulf the screen.

The 2 newest shipsets cybernetic and robotic have glitches with this mod installed. For example the middle module of starbases is removed, but there is also other glitches.
