Watcher Echo Ping

Description
This mod is (mostly) not obsolete!
It does a different thing. After some patches to the base game, the world map now shows zones that have an echo too, so you can definitely use that if you like -- but this mod will still be useful if you want to have an indication when moving into new zones for the first time, or if you don't want to have to check the map constantly to remind yourself.

Summary
Last tested on game version: v1.10.4 (The Watcher)

Adds a distinctive visual and sound effect whenever entering or loading a region that has an echo present, like Saint's campaign from Downpour. Compatible with existing saves.

Note! The effect seen at Watcher's spawn point when starting a new campaign is part of the base game, not this mod. That's something else!

Full description (contains spoilers for Watcher's progression): Watcher can progress by finding echoes in different regions. However, without any kind of information about whether or not an echo is in any given region -- and it isn't clear which ones do and don't -- there's no easy way of knowing if you should spend time scouring a given area or if you'd be wasting your time.

Saint's campaign is also based around finding echoes and it has a preexisting effect that effectively prevents this issue entirely. I'm not sure why something like it wasn't included with Watcher's campaign, so I implemented it here.

Please let me know if you run into issues! I developed this primarily for myself mid-playthrough to resolve the lack of signposting in Watcher's campaign, and it's very plausible I missed something.

You can find this mod's source code on GitHub[github.com], under the GPL v3 license. You can also find non-Workshop releases here, if you're on another platform.

I found a bug!
If you have other mods enabled, disable them first -- make absolutely sure that this mod is the one that's causing your problem, and see if the issue happens on vanilla too. If the issue persists, give me as many details as possible; reproduction steps, your platform, things like that. If you can provide your log file (BepInEx/LogOutput.log in the game directory) on pastebin or something, it would help a lot.

Bug reports without actionable information will be ignored. I can't fix issues if I don't know what's causing them!

as in, the ambient one that plays when you're approaching the echo, or the one that plays right after the ping? if the former: it's pooossible, but probably out of scope for this mod. if the latter: I'd actually like to, but I'm not super certain how. it's an unintentional part of the ping that I can only guess comes from the fact that the mod is accessing the data of the rooms in the region to find if an echo is in one of them, which then causes the laugh to play for a second until the music engine catches up with itself and fades it out. if I can find a fix, I'll post it :P

@DemonicRhythms not really

this mod is for advanced players as you don't need to sleep to check so you can just rush the game

it of course will slowly get useless as we learn which region has and doesn't have an echo but its cute and has its own unique charm so i like it and will use it when showing people the dlc

Good to know the devs are taking into account some of the biggest complaints people have! I'll still keep the mod though, it's great!
