The first number represents the game the mod is made for, the second number represents the mod
And for the first question: It would definetly be possible to break it down to the individual franchises. The important files are "00_portrait_categories.txt" and "00_portrait_sets.txt". These were the files that got added in the update that broke the original mod. To isolate one of the franchises you just have to delete the rest of them. For example: If you only want to play with the Star Wars (and vanilla) races you need to delete the everyone but the starwars and vanilla categories. If you only delete them from the categories file, they will still show up as AI empires but you wont be able to select them during empire creation. If you delete them from the sets file too, they will never show up.
I don't know anything about modding at the moment, but was vaguely curious if it'd be possible to break this down into smaller mods of the various franchises?
As an aside, if I wanted to figure out to try and do that myself, what file and where should I be digging in in my steam folder or what not?
