Crushing Death

Description

Lethal Gravity for high G planets
Multiplayer / Dedicated Server / Single Player

Inflicts progressively more severe damage as the magnitude of the gravity increases. (Admins are automatically protected from the effects.)

Configurable Options
Your configuration file is located here after you initially create your game.
~AppData\Roaming\SpaceEngineers\Saves\76561199002779266\{save game name}\Storage\{numbers}.sbm_Crushing Death\CrushingDeathConfig.xml

Gravity Threshold
(Gravity in "g") Gravity less than this value will not harm players. Above this value, players start to take damage. Damage scales with gravity. Default is 1.15 (so there is no damage from 0 up to 1.15g).

Damage Curve
(scalar) Arbitrary value for controlling how fast the damage effect scales. The damage is applied each "update" (see next for frequency). The default Damage Curve is 6. This will instantly kill a character at 1g above the threshold, and deal about 25% damage (per second) to a character at 0.5g above the threshold.

Damage Frequency
(seconds) Damage is applied every number of seconds equal to this value. Default is 1.1 seconds.

Protect NPCs
(true | false) Determines whether NPCs spawned on the planet (Spiders, Wolves, etc) are immune to gravity damage. Default is true.

Damage Formula
The following formula is used to calculate damage that is applied every update (Damage Frequency). This value is only applied when the character is in gravity above the Gravity Threshold.
dangerous gravity = (current gravity) - (Gravity Threshold) damage per "update" = (1 + dangerous gravity) ^ (Damage Factor)

Malpherian, only the players are killed, not the grids. People are squishier.

At what Gravity level does this Destroy blocks, items etc? Or is the Gravity Damage universal, not just to the player?

REV4666, players only take damage from natural gravity. The player should take damage, regardless if they are seated or not.

Abisius, if someone added this mod to an otherwise vanilla game world, having a threshold of 1.2 would mean they'd never experience the effects of the mod. That will be a problem in an otherwise vanilla game, and I'd get flooded with "bug" reports on the Discord. I did it this way so you can experience the mod without the need of modded planets, and I made the value configurable so people can make it work how they want.

@Patrick
something that got me thinking:
why 1.15 as default max treshold instead of 1.2 which would be the highest possible on vanilla worlds?

This is great I was thinking of making a "Planetsphobia" type scenario (where most of the resources would be only on planets but the player can only go there using remotes drones) and trying to find a way to enforce it.

I think this would be perfect by setting a threshold of 0.05G

Quick questions
1: do the player take damage from artificial gravity or only planetary gravity?

2:Do the player take damage while he is in the a cockpit or seat and is in gravity?

Have you used this mod?

i feel like it would kinda make sense to add a way to not fully stop it just negate it a bit for example that way you have to have a larger self sustaining ship to go there even if it was just enough to keep you alive barely just have it expensive and slow to make so you can't build it on a planet and it has very limited radius that way it is possible to get there to build drone stations for planetary ops or have it work kinda like the Safe zones where it requires a expensive chip that's non-craftable to use with a limited time that way a high g planet is hard and expensive to land on to make a drone hub

That's up to you. Put a planet with a ton of uranium and high-G or something. The mod isn't supposed to provide you with reasons to go somewhere. It provides reasons not to go.

so then what's the incentive to go there in the first place?
