Deep Sea Medical [DISCONTINUED]

Description
Neurotrauma is a completed mod that actually managed to do what I planned to do with a remastered version of this mod, go check it out. I will not be remaking this due to it.

This mod is discontinued
Comments are piling up, bugs are appearing out of nowhere with seemingly no way to fix them. If you wanna try and fix this crap, you are welcome to. I may eventually come back, but I got other stuff to do.

A mod that overhauls vanilla barotrauma's medical system to require a little bit more skill and focus, especially in desperate or emergency situations.

Compatibility Mods
This is a section dedicated to the variations of the mod to make it compatible with specific mods.

Huskmod Compat.

What does it do?
The main idea of this overhaul is to remove the dependence on morphine, and separate its uses towards a couple other medicines, as well as surgeries.

The mod also adds many interesting things like:
  • addictions for meth, steroids, human flesh
  • body augmentation; bionics
  • proper surgery mechanics (below sections will detail surgery)
  • a new sub-job: the surgeon
  • and more (more medicines, more functions, more everything)

The surgery part isn't exactly friendly for bots, so keep any medics you have player-run.

Guide to surgery
Wondering how surgery, which is a big part of this mod, works? You will mainly need 2 tools: a scalpel, and a suture. The other tools come in for specific surgeries. While there's not many surgeries you can do, bullet removal is the most common, and it requires a tweezer.

You cannot operate if the patient, or you, is not ready for surgery. There are 3 ways to get someone, or you, ready for surgery: laying down on a medical bed (or the folding surgical table, see below), equipping a diving mask with an ether tank installed, or having the surgery implant. Laying down (medical bed only, no bunks or stuff) is the easiest and more efficient way, though bots are unable to do so, so they must take the other ways. The ether tank is the more expensive way to go, but can help if your patient is quite finicky. And last, the surgery implant is the easiest, but also requires surgery to implant into the body.

For those who play on subs without hospital beds, there is an alternative: the folding surgical table, crafted with 2 steel and purchasable everywhere. It's basically a portable hospital bed, but it does not give the slight increase for healing when you lay down on it.

Fret not! Here's where the autosurgeon comes in handy, the autosurgeon can perform surgeries or implant implants into bodies of the unwilling. It does not produce any bleeding, does not require the patient to be ready, and does it quite quick. Though, the catch is that each use requires a whole battery cell's content, or half a fulgurium cell's content.

Now that your patient is ready, you begin surgery with the scalpel, by making a surgical incision. The incision affliction constantly produces bleeding, so work fast, and make sure to patch up incisions when you're done! Now, you are able to do more surgeries, from here you could:
  • insert organs or bionics by using them while there is an incision
  • remove organs with scissors
  • remove bullets with tweezers
  • or patch up incision with suture

The suture is the only way (besides using proconvertin) to cure the incision affliction, and therefore is very essential. Congratulations, you now know how to operate on someone!

If you are too lazy to do the above or have bad medical skill, use the autosurgeon, just insert a full battery, and the program or implant you wish to use. (You can't insert organs with the autosurgeon) The autosurgeon will do it without fail and faster than you can even see. The programs include: organ removal, and bullet removal.

The only way to fix organ damage is with omnizine or transplants with the organ removal surgery. Luckily you can survive at most 2 organs removed. The surgery doesn't drop organs if organ damage is above 3%.

Full list of items, functions, and others
I have moved this to a seperate guide, as I was having to compact multiple parts to get the description within the character limit.

Plans & Ideas
This is just a list of plans or ideas I have for this mod, concerning updates, compatibility mods, and more. Definite plans are bolded.
  • Into The Abyss compatibility
  • Weaker versions of medicines, antidotes, etc. (For example, potassium iodide, a weaker anti-rad.)
  • Clown extract; turns you into a clown :)
  • Synthorgan plants, a plant based alternative to donating your organs
  • Bionic limbs, + a possibility for a mantis shrimp based enemy that punches off your limbs
  • Shock, which would give saline an actual use, related to above
  • Non-bionic alien organs
  • Infections, for when you come in contact with water when bleeding and not in a suit (gives more use to antibiotic glue and broad spectrum antibiotics)
  • Heroin, a cheaper version of morphine, used only to treat opiate withdrawal, but more addictive.
  • Pain affliction, causes visual effect, given passively from other affliction and on attacks, morphine, fentanyl, etc. cures pain
  • Blood puddles, more decals, etc; mops, spraybottles, and more

After looking into it, amputatable limbs doesn't seem to be able to be done with XML modding; though if the Barotrauma developers were ever to add DLL/Official Source Modding (which in my opinion would revolutionize the modding community), I would definitely add it.

Known Bugs
As time passes, bugs seem to mysteriously appear despite the lack of game updates that could have created said bugs. So I've dedicated a section to the known bugs.
  • 3rd medical job does not appear on character select screen.
  • Folding surgical table does not make you surgery ready (have not tested the hospital bed)
  • Autosurgeon programs not craftable
