"Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer."

It's time to turn the aliens against each other. XCOM is seeking candidates for PROJECT EXVENT, an elite fireteam comprised of ex-ADVENT defectors. Add former adversaries to your squad and control ADVENT units fleshed out as powerful soldier classes, each with their own unique playstyle and skillset.

This is a large and ambitious mod in scope, with the goal being to eventually release all six ADVENT characters as playable soldier classes. The mod will be updated with new content as it becomes available, and smaller patches may be released occasionally to iron out any bugs or issues.



Meet the soldiers of EXVENT.

EXVENT Trooper (released v1.0, February 2021)
The EXVENT equivalent of an XCOM rookie, Troopers can elect to become any one of the other EXVENT classes by training at the Guerilla Tactics School.

EXVENT Officer (released v1.0, February 2021)
Serving as a herald to allied forces, the EXVENT Officer empowers the squad by taking initiative in battle while providing backline support.

EXVENT Stun Lancer (released v2.0, August 2021)
The EXVENT Stun Lancer is an agile assault unit equipped with a powerful lance capable of administering devastating blows and debilitating effects.

FAQ
How do I recruit EXVENT soldiers?
At the present moment, EXVENT soldiers can be recruited through one of two methods:
a) By undertaking a special Covert Action offered by the Resistance Factions, similar to the way in which you would recruit a Reaper, Skirmisher, or Templar. b) Purchasing a special Guerilla Tactics School perk that allows you to subdue and capture enemy ADVENT units, allowing you to recruit them into the EXVENT program.
Alternatively, the console command "GiveExventSoldier [name SoldierClass]" will immediately add an EXVENT soldier of the specified class to the barracks (as an example, the command "GiveExventSoldier ExventTrooper" would gift you an EXVENT Trooper). Additional methods for obtaining soldiers will be introduced in the future.

Why am I not getting any Covert Actions to recruit EXVENT soldiers?
By default, the PROJECT EXVENT: Recruit Candidates op isn't any more or less likely to be generated by the game when the list of Covert Actions are refreshed every month (meaning that it isn't guaranteed). If you want to force the game to offer this Covert Action as soon as possible, set "ForceCreation" equal to "true" in XComGame.ini.

Why isn't my Trooper ranking up?
EXVENT Troopers cannot gain experience through conventional means and can only rank up to Squaddie by training at the Guerilla Tactics School. This is mainly due to limitations in how the game handles custom soldier classes that start at Rookie rank, but it also ensures that Troopers don't accidentally promote into a non-EXVENT class. Once your Trooper becomes a different class at Squaddie rank, they will be able to gain EXP normally.

Is there a non-WotC version of this mod?
Unfortunately, no. However, any modders interested in creating one themselves are free to do so.

Will there be an EXVENT Custodian/Pathfinder/Warlock/some other modded enemy?
No. Just doing the six base game ADVENT units is already a massive time commitment, and I'd lose my sanity if I were to do more. Secondly, I'm not a huge fan of the notion of building a mod that's dependent on other people's work.

Although these mods are not necessary to run PROJECT EXVENT, consider subscribing to them for an enhanced overall experience.

Custom Soldiers Evac Zone Fix by RealityMachina
This mod resolves a base game bug that affects mod-added soldier classes on certain mission types. For PROJECT EXVENT specifically, this bug prevents EXVENT soldiers from going through the Ascension Gate during Chosen Stronghold missions.

Community Promotion Screen by x2communitycore
The default, two-column promotion screen used by the game for most soldier classes (EXVENT included) can only show 1 Squaddie-rank ability. All EXVENT classes learn a minimum of 2 abilities at Squaddie rank, meaning that some of these abilities will be hidden. This mod replaces that promotion screen with the new interface introduced in WotC, which will display every ability that has been learned.



Known Issues
    General Issues
  • XCOM 2 has a bug that causes a persistent black screen to softlock your game when a mod-added soldier class attempts to retrieve the Blacksite Vial during the ADVENT Blacksite mission. This issue is resolved by the Mission Overhaul: Core mod, although I've elected not to list it under the Companion Mods section because it makes several other changes to the game's mission system.
  • For obvious reasons, please do not stick EXVENT Troopers in the Psi Lab (for now).

    Compatibility Issues
  • If you're subscribed to Mr Koval's GTS-only trainable classes, you must go into this mod's XComClassData.ini and set "NumInForcedDeck" for the Officer and Stun Lancer equal to -1. This may have the side-effect of causing the EXVENT classes to show up when training any soldier (not just Troopers), but it's the only way to get these two mods to work together because Mr Koval's mod overrides 'UIChooseClass'.

    Officer: Call Reinforcements
  • Destroying the floor underneath the flare before reinforcements arrive may cause the Trooper to become stuck in midair upon spawning. If this happens, use the console command "TTC" (teleport to cursor) to move the Trooper to a valid tile.

You can't change the type of unit that is called in; however, the stats of the reinforcement Trooper will scale with the Officer's rank.
If you want to toy around with having more reinforcements, you can also edit the configs to give the Call Reinforcements ability multiple charges.

I have a question, does the ability to call reinforcements from smoke also scale with the game? Like, can we receive different advent units? Or do they increase in quantity?

I am loving this mod, but do the troops ever get armour upgrades? I stop using mine on missions once my squad is past the kevlar stage because they suddenly become too easy to kill

Love this mod, I am playing my own modjam with 300+ mods and even then the exvent troops are still very fun, distinct and totally compatible.

THIS IS AWESOME!!! I will try this out when I finish my current run of XCOM. I was looking for a mod that lets you play as the aliens, I think this is the best one we will get now. You are based!!!
