Description
Update 4/12/14 - added glass windows

Update 3/21/14 - fixed thruster damage. added fuel conveyor and storage systems.

Update 2/18/14 - fixed the glitch related to the new passage blocks where ladders are replaced by turrets

NOTE: you can find these ships and others in my "Military Division" file. this is uploaded if you prefer a separate download.

Cruisers play an important role in all fleets. They are designed to be faster than most other large ships, but are lightly armored. They often perform a very versatile role and, among our current ships, and the most widely ranging class.

- Carrier Cruiser - fills the role of Light Carrier. these ships, while small, maximize their space for squadrons of various small craft
- Siege Cruiser - Designed to attack stationary targets. these specialize in very large kinetic missiles and other experimental weaponry. (the current Siege Cruiser, the Harrier, is not included here but can be found in the Military Division file)
- Artillery Cruiser - although these ships are lightly armored, it is suitable to their role, as they use special weaponry to reach the enemy where they cannot effectively return fire
- Missile Cruiser - focus on missile launchers
- Interdictor Cruiser - designed to operate independently or in packs, the high focus on speed allows these ships to intercept and chase down much larger prey.

from left to right: Harbinger, Drake, Hawk, Heron

Harbinger Light Carrier
Mass - 7m kg
Acceleration - 2.1m/s^2
Weapons - 8 Missile Launchers
Carrier Capacity - 8 (this is done with gunships, given breathing room, and leaving the middle entrance way empty. using different fighters, and configurations may vary the results)
(This ship was loosely based on the Amarr Harbinger in EVE)

The Harbinger is a Light Carrier and often serves as the flagship of smaller fleets. It was built by Phoenix to support expansion efforts into the asteroid belt, as it was designed to carry both military and civilian craft.

Drake Interdictor Cruiser
Weight: 4.76 mil kg
Acceleration: 5.3 m/s^2
Weapons: 8 launchers, 6 guns

Although successful, the Hawk failed to meet expectations as an Interdictor. Therefore, Phoenix Shipyards quickly created the Drake as a second attempt at the role. At 5.3m/s^2, the Drake easily outruns ships of its size, larger ones, and even some smaller ships. The Navy quickly adopted the Drake, and began training specialized crews on the operation of these ships, teaching them to operate independently or in packs with other Drakes to take down much larger prey. To be assigned to an Interdictor role is seen as an honor for many due to the independence and the specialized training given to these crews. To others, it is a curse - space is very limited in a ship designed for speed, and the role of these ships is inherently very dangerous.

the design is a combination of the Amarr Coercer and the Caldari Tengu from EVE Online

Hawk Missile Cruiser
Weight: 5.7 mil kg
Acceleration: 3.5m/s^2
Weapons: 16 missile launchers

Inspired by the successful Raptor design, the Hawk was originally built as an Interdictor. However, it was later designated as a Missile Cruiser, when higher ranking military personnel believed it still too slow to receive the Interdictor designation. Still, this in no way discounts the effectiveness of the Hawk, as it is built in every way to hunt down ships larger than itself and blast them apart with heavy firepower.

Heron Class Artillery Cruiser
Mass - 6m kg
Acceleration - 1.8m/s^2
Weapons - 6 gatling guns, 2 gravity cannons
(based on the Romulan Raptor from Star Trek)

The Heron continues the line of experimental ships, and was made in response to the Harrier's shortcomings. It uses two gravity accelerator cannons to launch very basic projectiles at massive speeds and rip through targets. The Heron is designed to sit far away from battles where it can take aim and fire on larger ships. To assist in this role, the Heron has gravity generators pointing away from itself in the wings, and causes the Heron to be virtually unhittable by enemy gravity weapons. This forces the enemy to abandon the main battle and chase down a Heron should they wish to deal with the artillery threat.

Hydra Assault Cruiser
Mass - 6m kg
Acceleration - 2m/s^2
Weapons - 6 guns, 14 launchers
(based on the Caldari Corax from EVE)

The Hydra was designed to be a type of tackling ship. Although not as fast as other cruisers, it is still very manueverable. The Hydra brings many weapons to bear on the enemy, with heavy armor to ensure that it gets the chance to exhaust its payload. It is designed to carry Ospreys to help it in the take over of other ships. Once a hull has been breached or defenses have been brought down, Ospreys can take troops over to board the enemy ship or station. As a last resort, the bow of the Hydra is heavily armored to serve as a ram.

That's what I love about this game as it advances and adds new features we learn better ways of building. And this allows us to improve our designs. Keep up the good work.

Great ship designs, love 'em!

my cruisers are older than my destroyers, and thus do not reflect what i have learned in recent builds about having lots of weapons and still looking good at the same time

Seems a bit odd to me... but aren't cruisers technically supposed to pack heavier armaments than destroyers? Or is it the other way around?

Your destroyers have more stand-off and survival capabilities than these ships do.

The ram on the Hydra works well. I ripped the front of the interdictor cruiser off with the ram, leaving the bridge exposed, and the ram didn't crumble that bad.
