Description
Melee Attachments/Upgrades

Aren't you tired of fixing a scope to your sword? Doesn't it feel kind of dumb/unrealistic?

Well, fret no more friends, custom Melee Attachments are here!

WHAT'S IN THIS MOD

Eight new melee attachments/upgrades, with the standard 3 tiers of Basic, Advanced and Superior:

1- Frames, that add + mobility

2- Scramblers that decrease your detection radius

3- Targeting Modules that pierce armor

4- Crossguard Taptic Modules that do extra damage to confused, disoriented, stunned, robotstunned, bound, frozen and dazed enemies

5- Pressurized Dispensers that do extra damage to burning, acid, poisoned and bleeding enemies

6- Feedback Capacitators that return a guaranteed but small amount of damage back to your attacker in a defined range (projectiles and beam only)

7- Psionic Network Trackers that motivate allies for +aim on the same turn you get a kill (except on the Lost)

8- Pommel Micro-Motors that add damage to melee reaction attacks like Bladestorm

Full list of effects can be found on this Google sheet [docs.google.com]

Pretty much all these values can be freely edited through *.ini config.

Natively, the mod supports the following weapon categories:
  • sword
  • combatknife
  • glaive
  • Odachi
  • Wakizashi
  • throwingknife
go to Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\268500\2134785102\Config, open XComMeleeAttachments and follow instructions if you want to add other weapon categories (for example the Skirmisher's wrist blade, the Templar's gauntlet or other mod-added melee weapon categories)

WHAT'S NOT IN THIS MOD

Any kind of visual attachments in tactical missions. I'm just not good at that.

There are visuals for the armoury, compatible with:

Vanilla+WOTC+TLE weapons (duh)
Scimitars from [WOTC] Celatid Alien
Katanas from WotC Katana Pack Reloaded
Jetstream Sam's weapons from [WOTC] MGR Jetstream Sam Squadmate REVENGEANCE REDUX
The Axes from WotC TheAxeMod
Combat Knives from WOTC LW2 Combat Knife Replacer
Vorpal Blade from [WOTC] Armored Viper
Blades from [WOTC] Metal Gear Raiden Customization Pack
The Swords from (N:A) NieR: Automata - 2B's Outfit [WOTC]
Genji's melee weapons from Genji Redux
Glaives from [WotC] Glaive- Massive melee Weapon(ver.1.2)

KNOWN BUGS

The added mobility from the Frames attachments/upgrades won't show up in the armoury stats or through F1 in tactical missions. This is a UI bug, the mobility is still enhanced.

FAQ

Q: How do I get my hands on these?
A: from enemies' timed loot drops. You have a 35% chance of getting a melee attachment on any drop. This is on top of regular loot, it will never replace a vanilla weapon upgrade. The Google sheet linked above also contains the item names if you want to add them through the console.

Q: Vanilla? LWOTC? RPGO?
A: No, no, yes.

Q:Can I use this mid-campaign?
A: sure.

BIG THANKS TO:

RustyDios, which should really be considered co-author of this mod after all the debugging he volunteered (or got nagged into).

The whole crew on the Discord, but most especially Iridar for his infinite patience with a modding noob like meself, NotSoLoneWolf for explaining loooots of concepts to me, shiremct for a big help getting me started with effects, etc etc ad nauseam. Definitely couldn't have done it without you folks. Extra thanks to NeIVIeSiS for upgraded visuals and for providing more lore-friendly descriptions.

ADDENDUM

I'm assuming if you're looking at this mod you would already know this, but obviously in order to attach weapon upgrades to melee weapons, you're going to need at least the Primary Secondaries mod and/or Mod Everything Reloaded and/or Configure Upgrade Slots.

Well, I just checked with a non-Samurai wielding a Katana as her primary weapon. No dice. I'll try on a Ranger's normal weapon... No dice, though that was a Viper Ranger. Let me try on a bog-standard human Ranger...

Nope, not working.

Some of the mods in this mod don't seem to be working, possibly because of True Primary Secondaries? It's very disappointing that I can't attach an Advanced Blade Frame to a heavy axe in order to offset the mobility penalty. Or maybe it's just not working for Samurai...

does it support True Primary Secondary ?

the attachment slot isn't showing up, i have the shield attachments mod and that works, also armor upgrades, but the slot for melee is nonexistent.
RustyDios 31 Aug, 2024 @ 5:19am
because you need to add the gauntlet as a supported weapon type
AlShegardy92 31 Aug, 2024 @ 12:46am
why i cant use it for templar meelee weapon ?

Either version works fine.

I know you haven't replied for years but I'm just checking in about switching the required mods to the newer Primary Secondaries

LWOTC player here. Never used this before since the author seemed to indicate it wouldn't work. But since TrooperCoon kindly provided the template names to console in these items I tested them out and have had no issues. These melee modules look amazing! Note, it may require tweaking the config if you want melee weapons to have the same 3 upgrade slots as LWOTC guns. Conventional swords start with only 1 and the ripjack has none.

Is there a way to remove the hilts (non-lost kills) entirely? I fee like they're the only useless upgrade, everything else is great
