Howdy!

This is the newest standard issue infantry drop pod from WMI. It is outfitted with cutting edge software that allows the drop pod to land in almost any planetary environment without any user input. The landing sequence is purely automated and designed to get troops on the ground quickly and safely.

The shape of the Mk 2 is notably less angular than the Mk 1. This was due to large numbers of complaints from Mk 1 pilots who reported frequent tipping over on any non-level terrain. This caused nausea and, in some very rare instances, injury to the occupant. In order to avoid legal liability ensure user safety, WMI designed this new chassis from scratch to be much less prone to tipping on landing. This new chassis is also significantly more versatile and can easily be refit to carry a medium cargo container or survival kit.

The drop pod utilizes both ion and atmospheric thrusters for braking so that the pod is effective even on planets without atmosphere. Additionally, the pilot has an ion thruster in each lateral direction for minor course corrections during a drop.

The cockpit is connected to an air vent that can pull in oxygen from the atmosphere of the planet you are landing on (if it has air). The pilot also has access to a small cargo container which can be used to store weapons, ammo, or other necessary items. This craft is also entirely battery powered so that they can be mass produced without necessitating manual fueling of each pod.

  1. Place this drop pod onto your drop ship's merge block.
  2. Fly into a natural gravity field.
  3. Press 1 to drop.
  4. (Optional) Press 2 to toggle the radio antenna.

Large inspiration of the shape came from the (RDA) Escape Pod M1. I wanted a more generalized platform that was battery powered and could land on moons and planets with ease, but I really like the simplicity of the shape so I designed around it. The flying porta-john actually has quite a bit more volume to put stuff in than my older drop pods which makes it super easy to refit with other internals which I loved.

I hope y'all have fun with this :)

I think the question was "is there a ship of yours that uses this drop pod? and if so, which one? and is it on the workshop? and could you please post a link to it?"

or something along those lines

love the concept and am working on something similar of my own - one pod to rule them all (drop infantry, drop supplies, drop parts that can be linked to form a base or vehicle, ...) - of cause necessitating the replacement of the pod's payload
... maybe even adding the option of "calling for X" to the infantry pods which then triggers a GPS-guided supply drop of the desired type automagically from the nearest orbital entity ... but first, a solid pod :-P

may i suggest a small upgrade?

some decoys that can be detached from the pod right before it started breaking and/or before it enters weapon range of the ground would probably help a lot in ensuring that the pod gets through during "hot" landings

Yep, you could, make sure to add the phrase "Drop Pod" to that connector so that it is seen by the code. Also, the code is only configured to allow you to drop while within atmosphere, so that may be a drawback

Are these able to be connected to and dropped from a large ship? If for example I wanted to use it as sort of an escape pod. Could I just replace the merge block with a connector?
