A bad experience even after the 1.1 update.

Enemies move too fast and swarm you with each new wave meaning you have almost no time to devise an escape, even using dash. You always feel on the backfoot and don't even approach any kind of power fantasy until the enedgame when you've grinded most of the upgrades. But with no motivation to play, I'm not ever getting there.

Gold is slow to gain and the meta upgrades are extremely minor (+3% gold gain, whoopdedoo).

Weapons aren't particularly interesting and there doesn't seem to be any evolutions or alternate ways to use them; upgrades for weapons are just pure stat upgrades. It's become standard in the Survivors genre to offer more powerful weapon upgrades for more interesting ways to play.

There's an annoying gigantic box beneath your character that shows your health. You do get used to it, but it's still annoying as it gets in the way. Also your character's hitbox is huge which makes avoiding enemies above you troublesome.

Events are impossible until the endgame. The slimes you need to kill have more health than bosses and you can already barely kill those. The shady dealer that lets you buy items somehow expects you to do that when you're being swarmed by 50 enemies constantly.

There are no weapon stats that tell you how much damage they are doing, let alone the specific stats of that weapon like how much damage it does, it's area, attack speed, etc. At least show us the total damage and dps at the end of the run, which is standard for these games.

------------

Not worth the price at all. Especially when you consider the best game in the Survivors genre, Halls of Torment, is only $5 and offers an enormous amount of fun content that is well balanced and actually enjoyable. I can also fully recommend Soulstone Survivors, and Rogue Genesia. Both offer far more and are more than worth their price.

Everything I said is factually true.

@Double I see that reading comprehension isn't your speciality huh? The negative review isn't my issue. Its the negative review full of blatantly false information that is my issue.

@SoggyDiamond332 You're honestly calling a bad review for a game that has 52% rating hurting a small indie developer that already has a great game in Chronicon? Like everyone that set out to review the game did it specifically to hurt the small indie dev, that has already made hundreds of thousands if not 7 figures from what is actually a good and highly rated game?
Get a hold of yourself. Game bad = negative reviews = make game better = better reviews, its all on them.

I'm glad someone else gets it.

I agree with op, uninspired and just bland for this genre. It's nothing more than swarm spam with boring skills and minor stats increases

Prior comment was too long so adding this as an aside, I'll definitely be adding When the Light Dies to the list. Never heard of it before, game looks neat!

"Just because you found the enemy waves swarming you on all sides extremely fast giving you only like a second to respond to be fun"

This just isn't true though lol Genuinely don't understand how somebody with as much experience with the genre as you (checked your profile) can sit here and make a claim like that unironically. Chronicon Survivors is not a difficult game, not even remotely. Its genuinely easier and more forgiving early on than most of the genre. Yes, there are a lot of enemies. But its braindead easy to avoid them. Halls of Torment's very first map hits you with entire screens of enemies on all sides, giving you very little time to react. It doesn't happen right away, but it does happen at multiple points throughout the 30 mins. Its baffling that you praise that game so hard yet can't handle Chronicon Survivors.

Not enjoying the game is one thing but claims like the above are a whole other thing. And are genuinely confusing.

Just because you found the enemy waves swarming you on all sides extremely fast giving you only like a second to respond to be fun, doesn't mean I and other people will. Especially when it's such a departure from the genre of the player and enemies starting out slower paced and gradually getting faster as the game goes on. Your statement makes ME wonder if YOU have played other games in this genre.

This game is only a step above the copy paste garbage, but far far short of actually being good.

If you enjoy it though, good for you. But I didn't and neither did a lot of other people.

Btw I just started checking out "When the Light Dies" because it's at full release, and while it's lacking map variety it's far more balanced and fun than this game.

"Enemies move too fast and swarm you with each new wave meaning you have almost no time to devise an escape, even using dash."

"Events are impossible until the endgame."

Neither of these are remotely true. It takes about an hour of playing the game to understand how enemies work and how to move around them to achieve goals. You talk about other games in the genre and praise Halls of Torment specifically but remarks like these genuinely make me sceptical that you've actually played the game you praise. Been working on 100%ing HoT, currently at 427/500 achieves. The game is much more brutal early on before you have items and shrine upgrades and its definitely not well balanced.

Disingenuous reviews like this do nothing but hurt small indie developers. Is the game as good as genre defining games like HoT? No, absolutely not. Its also actively being developed, every game starts somewhere. The game is absolutely worth $5 and has a place in the genre.
