been looking for a simple open-world zombie game with crafting and guns for a while and this is great! there's a decent amount of content in the game and it was a great buy on sale for $6. hoping more stuff gets added!

really really good game! I'd really recommend you play Half-Life 1 if you haven't before this, but Black Mesa is an exceptional remake of HL1. it's definitely similar enough to HL1 to be recognizable as it, but it's still very different. 10/10 remake!

I've spent $90 on this game since 2020 and now I can't play the game. I'm pissed.

just let me buy the damn game now! it's been out for years! I just really don't want to pay an MMO subscription for a game that is barely even updated every year.

It's the wrong move to still be treating TM as a live-service game, because they're not adding enough to it each year. The vast majority of the game's content content (and what draws players to the game) is user-generated and not made by the developers. This content is paywalled!! You can't access *community-created content* without paying the developers. We've gotten a handful of new official content, and their biggest new addition (snow car) is literally a 1:1 port of the code from their game from 2003 (same bugs and behavior, etc.)

Nadeo has dumped so much money into Trackmania's esports scene over the past few years, and now they're completely pulling out because, shocker, not enough interest. Their sole focus should have been making the game more accessible to new players, since you can't have successful esports events without.... people wanting to play the game/watch them? WTF.

The tiny core TM playerbase always defends Nadeo to no end and I just honestly don't understand it. Liking a game doesn't mean you have to be incapable of admitting it has issues and advocating for better treatment. Nadeo makes baffling decisions and doesn't listen to anyone who criticizes them. This game could be so much bigger than it is but the leadership at Nadeo is actively preventing it from growing.

(My playtime is on uplay, not here)

After owning this game for a few years, the latest update has made the music for the DLC advertisement on the main menu constantly play at a really high volume throughout the entire game. You can't turn it off and it makes the game unplayable.

Pls fix, adware sucks

Edit: You can fix this by opening Volume Mixer and lowering the Steam Client Webhelper volume. It's just opening the Steam overlay while hidden and blasting that music.

it's cod number 25: least amount of annoying BS since MW 2019, gun progression is different (I'm not a fan of it but ymmv.)

What I wanna talk about is... the campaign? Holy crap, it was godawful.

The story is incredibly one-dimensional and bland - it's a COD campaign, of course, but there was barely even a narrative shown through gameplay, just a ton of cinematic shots of characters grimacing while someone else reads exposition. The story has zero climax - I actually didn't know the last sequence was the final one until the credits rolled.

There are two "boss fights" near the end of the game, one being an AI driving a tank in a circle at 5mph in which you have to throw C4s at (extremely boring and non-challenging), and one literally being "kill 2 *normal* enemies." Yep, that's right, all you have to do before the game ends is kill 2 regular-ass enemies and then the ending cutscene begins to play. You obtain a gas grenade in the level, throw it at one (or both!) enemies, and then press the melee button to take them down. That's the final boss fight. Who greenlit that?

A more minor nitpick is the way AI enemies spawn; being a linear FPS campaign, the game has to spawn the AI in a way that doesn't break immersion, leads to good fights, etc. In this campaign, there was a plethora of areas where the trigger to spawn in these AI was extremely clear. Good enemy spawn-in shouldn't affect gameplay, but I found myself running through doorways and then back out to cheese the spawn triggers. On higher difficulties this becomes more of a necessity because if you're peeked *whatsoever* AI will instantly laserbeam you if more than one of them enters a room at once.

I also had multiple crashes to bluescreen, only in the campaign - this seemed to have a 50/50 chance of causing another crash when trying to reload my save, requiring me to start the entire level over. This could be hardware-dependent though. The fact that you can't manually save and have to rely on (apparently) easily corruptible autosaves to progress is a shame.

I was pleasantly surprised by MW2019's campaign and had a tiny bit of expectation for this one, but was really disappointed. Nobody in the history of ever has purchased a COD game for the campaign, though :)

Game's really good, fails to be a worthwhile complete package due to SLZ's refusal to improve their products based upon user feedback. They essentially made the exact same mistakes with this title that they did with their previous.

This game is designed with the goal of being a framework that other people will then flesh out/make content for, (like happened naturally with Boneworks since its release.) This is fine, but I believe SLZ relied too heavily on this notion, and didn't ensure that their singleplayer experience (i.e. *the entire game for 95% of players*) was good enough. Most of the campaign is setup as a collection of one-off level demos, with nearly all cool stuff only showing up once and not returning.

The story vaguely exists, but you have to watch a Youtube video essay to understand it, just like Boneworks. If you haven't played Boneworks, even less will make sense. Having deep/hidden lore is awesome, but it needs to be presented in a smarter fashion for those who don't enjoy examining every square inch of each level.

Then there's the absolutely inexcusable stuff:

Boneworks launch:

* Incomplete poorly designed levels, long tedious pathing (no saves)
* Major VR platform not functional (Windows MR)
* "If you get motion sick it's your own fault, just stop being motion sick"

Bonelab launch:
* Incomplete poorly designed levels, long tedious pathing (whoever thought the crane was a good idea... lol)
* Major VR platform not functional (Valve Index)
* This gem[imgur.com]

All of this can really just be attributed to not enough playtesting. All of this stuff would have been sorted out if they just... tested their game on all VR platforms, and had people outside of their own echo chamber playtest the game. SLZ's playtesters are exclusively their personal friends and Discord community members.

SLZ's general attitude towards user feedback is simply "our games are amazing and everyone who doesn't think so isn't worth listening to." I dare you to try having a friendly conversation with Alex Knoll without him throwing a literal tantrum over some minor criticism. Everyone who disagrees with him is a either a troll or doesn't know what they're talking about.

While Bonelab and Boneworks are incredible leaps forward in this medium, SLZ's terrible attitude towards self-improvement continues to limit their capability.

Edit 11/30/22 for a bit more context: I have no issue with the fact that BW/BL doesn't have any aids for people who get motion sick. I don't get any personally, and that wasn't intended to be a focus here. My issue is SLZ's attitude *to* people who get VR sick, as highlighted in the screenshot. A lot of people have this issue and they're immediately alienated from the experience rather than aided. There could even be a very simple guide with tips (eat ginger, try to ground yourself, play seated, etc.) which would go a long way. Instead, players are directly made fun of by the devs. The level of arrogance here is astounding.

Back in 2019 Boneworks released without any form of in-level progress saving. When asked about saving, this[imgur.com] is the response that a friend got from Alex. Getting this level of pissy over genuine player feedback is pretty terrible PR, and left a pretty bad taste in my mouth. The public-facing image they portray in their video content doesn't reflect the experience that myself and many, many others have had with them over the years, surprise surprise.

The underlying tech in their games is undeniably incredible, and very few other VR games even come close, but they seem to respond incredibly poorly to *any* form of feedback beyond positive platitudes, almost as a rule. This is no good and their titles suffer because of it.

Edit 9/5/23 --- Bonelab was supposed to have "2 years of support" and there's been a single bug fix patch since launch. Nothing has been added in just under a year. Devs have said they're working on stuff, which is cool. Hope they're able to implement feedback from their community if/when their large update hits.
