Netcode is bad.
Oh yeah, rollback? Too bad, it's not a good one. You know, the one that is open source?
The beta version was more playable and stable, lol.

I'm a fan of Lumines since 2008 and I've always recommended it to everyone who like bloc puzzle games.
You move blocs of 4, with 2 different colors and have to make squares of the same colors, being erased by a timeline. If you erase enough squares, you'll start getting multipliers.
After some minutes, the "stage" changes, which means the music, the background, the colors, the sound effects and even the speed of the timeline erasing your squares.
Because Lumines is not just about being a puzzle game, it's also about the experience inspired by synesthesia, as everything illustrates the song that is being played.

I love Lumines and its soundtracks so therefore I like this version no matter what, which is the only legal version you can acquire on PC now. However, I regret a few things:
- It only has songs from the first game, making it only one Challenge. I discovered Lumines with Lumines Live, which combined content from the first 2 games, plus the Winter Challenge. We can have SO MUCH MORE to play with if the publisher decides to do it.
- Some skins look less stylish than from the previous version. Sorry, but it's a fact. However it doesn't make me refuse to play it, I just wish we had the best of the best content to play with.
- I've always found the VS mode terrible and they haven't tried a single time to better it, it's always the same and there is a reason why you NEVER heard about competitive VS for Lumines unlike Tetris or Puyo.

That being said, I always recommend Lumines, it is part of my life and I invite people to find out why.

A beautiful, original and pretty chill puzzle game, based on language translation and exploration.
I love the art style that reminds me of old European comics.
The game isn't too hard as it's meant to be a pleasant voyage into the tower of Babel with puzzles that will ask your common sense and curiosity to solve.

PS: Warriors are based.

Recommended for both who wants to just blast stuff in a colourful world and for people who want to hit that grind and aim for a perfect run.
DDP is ironically both an accessible game, fully enjoyable for the beginner, and an insanely sophisticated one when it comes to scoring and survival at high level.

Accessible, as you have the base Novice mode and the BOMB Style with auto-bombs. It is like having a lot more lives, so you can take a lot of bullets during a game. Very enjoyable for the beginners, and that's how i discovered this game on MAME too, and then enjoyed the Novice mode on the Xbox 360 before this Steam release.
The gameplay has a lot of "bullet cancelling" with your Hyper attack that destroys enemies bullets. It also gives a bit of invincibility, so you will abuse this mechanism as long as you can activate it to survive, and rely on your auto-bombs as if they were your lives.

But also, at higher level, this game gets really sophisticated when it comes to scoring. Your score can get exponential quite easily if you play well enough.
Doing a 1CC is not enough. In fact, you may die, once. But you'll have to fulfil other requirements in order to access to a second loop and the "real" last boss, and maybe even the "true" last boss, and why not aiming for the "secret true extra" boss exclusive in Black Label?!?

It has a lot of different game modes and variations, making it one of the most complete shmup on the market despite having the same stages. Each mode plays a different way and provides a new take on the game itself.

- "1.5" is the base game. If you worry about your combo, keep either hitting people with your laser or kill masses of popcorns with your shot. Activate the Hype at the right time to not lose that combo too.
"Black Label" is a hardcore remix in which you can easily increase the difficulty mid-game at your will, so you can score more. Basically, press both laser and shot and then survive, lol.
Try it with auto-bombs, but if you chose not, you can use a bomb as a stock Hyper. That is when it becomes interesting...
Both of these come with a Novice mode. I personally don't recommend BL Novice because it lacks what makes this mode: lots of ennemies and bullets.
However, 1.5 Novice is HIGHLY recommended for starters.
- "Arrange A", also called "Ver. L" is based on the previous Dodonpachi game, DaiOuJou.
Sadly, this version on Steam lacks slowdown and that makes it really hard. The original version on the 360 was about slaloming between an ocean of bullets in slo-mo. Here you will have to prevent that more.
- "Arrange B" is a strange one, kinda like a career and grindy mode, in which you have to increase your best score on each stage individually.
- "Black Label Arrange" is also called "Ketsuipachi" as it's a mockup of the cult shmup Ketsui. You move one ship of the game with a lock on system AND with the remastered sountrack. Score by killing your opponents at point blank.
- "1.51" is a remix of the original. Doesn't have Steam achievements (as it used to be a DLC for the 360 game) but it has a different, interesting take on the original game. Play it for having something new while still looking like the same.

Of course, a BIG downside of this game is the complete lack of tutorial and explanations on how this game works, how to score. You'll need to look for it on the internet.
However, there is an advanced training mode (no save state, though) and you can watch other players replays.

If you're a beginner and this game sounds too crazy for you, you can still give it a try as it's fun! You may also try Mushihimesama, that teaches better on how to dodge bullets.

Also, the music is DOPE and 3 soundtracks are available in-game.

Keep in mind that is not considered as an arcade-perfect port, and that the Arrange A and Ketsuipachi don't have the same slowdowns as their original version on the Xbox 360.
Nevertheless, this is a good port overall and a solid way to play this game.

(EDIT: Felt too harsh to make it negative so i changed it to positive.
Overall, it's a cool game but it does have flaws, that i describe here.)

Madness is a cool universe and this is in fact a cool game, but it would be hard for me to recommend this to someone who is not a fan of it, because it really feels like this game is made for the fans only and it has flaws.

My main gripe is the visibility/readability in this game (i don't know how to call that i'm not English) : everything is just grey or black and you're supposed to know who you are controlling and who are your teammates in a sea of grey heads fighting each others. The reason being because the Flash animations were always like that... but it sucks to perceive things comfortably. I feel like i have to force my eyes so i can:
- Find my character in this mess when there is one. Everything's grey, everyone's grey, where's my dude with the black bandana in the middle of dudes with black helmets?
- Check if i'm throwing a grenade to or attacking a teammate because they may just look like the enemy (have to spot that GREY reticle under them)
- Check where i'm aiming to. No matter if my character is facing someone, i have to aim to punch them. And for shooting guns, you have to aim precisely where you want to shoot, not just the direction.
- Check if my character can actually change weapon (see below)
That a DAMN LOT to CHECK in an action game, i think that such time of game should instead be very easy to "read" so you see clearly what's going on and can react instantly.

Also, the text is minuscule, for no reason. I sometimes have to reach my head in front of the screen to read it. And there is a LOT of text too. It's like if you're supposed to have a 10/10 eyesight to play this game comfortably. Not very nice.

My second gripe is the controls. Very clumsy and not very responsive.
- If i press to change weapons while my character is doing something, he won't do it. And no, he won't do it after his action is done, so i have to press again. But if i press more than once because i'm in a bad situation, he will draw it, and then draw the previous one, lol. Why can't i just buffer it so it's cool and smooth?
- Double tapping the keyboard for running is really not my cup of tea. In fact, i hate it. When i'm surrounded and must run right away, it's not responsive or viable.
- When your character falls down next to enemies, you're done. He takes forever to get up and you cannot dodge on wakeup. So if you get smashed and fall to the feet of a big guy, lol.
- Since i grew up as a console guy, i see top down shooters being played with one thumb for moving and the other thumb for aiming, i am not used to aim with my mouse and that is pretty inconvenient since if i don't keep track of my aim i will sometimes miss my target despite my character facing them. But hey i was told that's a "normal" way to play on PC so i guess it's on me. Still, i wish i could play with a twin analog controller and not having to aim on the screen with it.
- Throwing genades is not really effective as it misses easily or bounces too far and takes time to explode.

When you start, enjoy the Story mode. It's pretty comfortable and easy and you can play with friends too, which is really enjoyable.
As for the story itself, i haven't understood that much. How Project Nexus is supposed to be this evil and why it was supposed to be necessary to make Doomsday on Nexus City. There is a damn lot of text in the story and i really didn't feel like reading everything. And oh, you're supposed to know about a few stuff like who you're playing with loading screens infos, lol. I think overall the game lacks the will to be discovered by newcomers but is here more for the fans.

I played story with a friend (a Madness fan who introduced it to me) and it was really enjoyable.

Then there is Arena mode. This is your "career" mode in which you level your character up through the missions.
The missions are made of waves of enemies and you must survive for quite a long time.
You can also hire goons to fight for you but they die really fast.
This mode is not a walk in a park and is in fact really frustrating. The difficulty is pretty high and checkpoints are non-existent or demand to survive for a long time. I don't want to play on easy mode, damnit. I started in Tough, had at some point to reduce to Normal and now i start to struggle again.
I get surrounded by almost immortal punks who run fast, who will beat me up as soon as i attack one of them while a big one runs through me, or i get smashed to the ground after having to mash my spacebar because haha, good gameplay, and i fall right in front of the big dude who just finish me. And there is no freaking guns in this mission.
Not so fun, sorry. It's fun to kill hundreds of people but i hate how frustrating that game feels when i get smacked down, as it will happen because there is way too much force on me and i can't do ****.

And i'm a guy who loves hard games, just check what i play on Steam.

So, overall, Madness is a cool game but who could have been better if it was not just made for the hardcore fans.
It feels frustrating pretty easily.

Just realised that i never wrote a review for this.
A chill puzzle game ideal for brain fog moments. You pop marbles by throwing marbles of the same colour as them. Has a lot of levels to do and some can be really challenging but you also unlock buffs to help you.

Be aware that finishing in Nightmare mode won't unlock the achievements for lower difficulties! Silly devs.
Also even if it isn't important, the game has no ending. Sorry for the spoil, but there is nothing, despite the little hype the game builds up :(

Use cloak, run and slide into your enemy to capture him, use him as a meat shield, his teammates hesitate, use bullet time and shot them all in the head, throw the guy with a grenade attached on him, shoot it so it explodes in the air, put one shotgun in each hand, blast that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥'s legs because he has a riot shield, hear them scream and shout, run away from the freaking cultists who run after you on fire, blast that poor lonely guy over there with the most satisfying grenade launcher, pin other poor dudes to the wall with the spike launcher and oh have some spooky moments too because why not, it's always appreciated and then if you're bored, you have unlockables and 50 stages for "horde" mode.
And Rage mode, of course.

This game ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ slaps, i don't even feel interested to bring the downsides.
Seriously tho, it's insanely satisfying and the campaign, while being very short, is cool.
The game also has insane replay value.

The downside? It's not F.E.A.R. You rush a lot and can slide like an idiot everywhere.
The good side? It's not F.E.A.R. It's its own game. Movement is insane because it has to be. Enemies are ferocious and really dangerous despite the cruelty you do to them. Now when you get surrounded by 10 of them, you got to improvise. Good thing you have cloak, focus (bullet time), sprint, slide, can capture, dual wield and throw stuff.
Give them hell, Trepang is here to stay!!!
