A faithful callback to Keen 1 or Nukem 1

Muri is Japanese for "impossible". It's also the name of the highest difficulty setting in the game. But it's not one of those ultra-hard platformers. Instead, it's just a small and well made package.
There are 4 episodes of 5 levels each. I couldn't tell you the story because I skipped through it.

What I enjoyed
  • Non-linear levels that encourage exploring everywhere for pickups and secrets.
  • Simple, useful weapon upgrades.
  • Good difficulty curve.
  • The player character is a reluctant middle-aged, slightly overweight woman in a power suit. Sure, why not?
  • Boss battles that aren't annoying.
  • EGA look with some modern options for convenience. Make sure to set for graphics upscaling and smooth 32-bit scrolling.
  • Oooh it does this thing where if you're facing left/right and you shoot in that direction and while shooting you move in the other direction, you walk backwards while maintaining your aim. Very handy!
What I didn't like
  • My biggest gripe is not being able to change keyboard controls. It comes with several schemes, but none suit me.
  • Can't save. You can select which episode to play, but you'll have to repeat the levels if you'd previously stopped in the middle of it. (just like in those old games!)
  • Jumping feels weird, like a mix of jumping and jetpacking. You get used to it. (just like in those old games!)
It's nice when a game is content with being good.

Easy to pick up, looks great, and offers lots of fun courses. Some weirdness with club-to-ball collision, but not a major issue.

Feels like sitting in a living room with a bunch of people, each using their own PC, talking together, occasionally going "hey check this out on my screen".

If your games aren't launching inside BigScreen, check the pinned topic in the Steam forums. (disable Desktop Theater in the Steam settings, switch your games to borderless windowed if available, and enable v-sync if possible.)

Bigscreen gives you a variety of environments to choose from, each with a number of seats to occupy. (4 people max per room) Your desktop is projected in front of you and you can control the position, size, and curvature of this virtual screen. And you can see other people's screens and voice chat with them. Additionally, each environment has a "big screen" that can be used to project something.

Watch movies, youtube stuff, games... anything goes. And you can be solo, but it really shines when you host or join a room. You can customise your avatar (floating head and hands) with a variety of looks, and making gestures at others combined with the voice chat really sells the illusion that you're hanging out in a room together.

Supports 3D movie playback (SBS and OU)

Nowadays when I want to play a non-VR game, I tend to play it inside this, while hanging out with others.

It's pretty great. The other day we had a Rocket League LAN party inside Bigscreen.

This is basically a trailer for a first person narrative experience, based on a book of the same name. This demo places you nowhere near the beginning, so you may be confused as to who the characters are or what is going on, but after a few dialogue lines, you sort of understand the premise of the story.

It looks great, the voice acting is very good, the locations intriguing and believable. This is a very short demo, but it was enough to immerse me completely and make me wonder at the story as a whole. I'll definitely keep an eye on the final experience when it comes out.

AltspaceVR offers a suite of rooms and locations to hang out with friends or strangers, voice chatting and interacting together.

Some rooms are just spaces to be together and talk - and it's amazing how real it feels to stand next to someone and talk to them - and others are entire locations where you can play together, such as a tavern with some toy weapons (and a Cards Against Humanity table), a disc golf arena, Mayan / Aztec temple, and others.

On top of that, there are always events with guest speakers from all sorts of circles. Recently there was a stand-up comedy event.

I think what I like most about AltspaceVR is how accessible it is on all sorts of hardware. Rift, Vive, Leap Motion, Gear VR, or even just a PC screen and keyboard and mouse. You can access it from anywhere and be together.

On my Vive, I have a variety of ways to interact with others, either with positional voice chat or body language (it's cool how much you can convey with just hands and a head). And I can move around by teleporting or with joystick locomotion via the touchpad, which did NOT cause any discomfort because it's steady and slow.

For the price of "free" you have no reason not to try it. I'm sure you'll like it.

An attempt at FPS with a twist, but ultimately a boring failure.

Yet another take on "war as entertainment", yet another take on "family man's family gets murdered and man drafted as gladiator".

What I enjoyed
  • Customise your loadout before every mission, with a not-bad variety of weapons from SMGs to assault rifles and shotguns and miniguns, rocket launchers and flamethrowers, and an optional riot shield.
  • Gain money from kills and spend it at field stations on ammo and repair for your armour.
  • AI teammates accompany you, and respond to simple commands like stay/go and repair your armour.
  • Decent enemy AI, but they're mostly placed in a way that just turns them into sitting ducks.
  • Locations are non linear and varied.
  • Every now and then, a mini-boss battle against super soldiers where you bet and make money. (Bet On Soldier battle = BOS battle, geddit)
  • The way you move, sound effects, and location damage really gives you the feeling that you are walking around with metal plates strapped to your body. Nice feel to the all-important armour in this game.
What I didn't like
  • Shooting and gunplay are very unsatisfying. It's not a good sign when a first person shooter has boring shooting. This is what ultimately made me stop playing.
  • Saving costs money, which you also spend on resupply and repair and loadout.
  • Horrible, laughably fake American voice acting ruins any chance of being immersed. A few characters (yours and your companions) are voiced properly.
  • Just boring gameplay.
  • Not the game's fault, but I thought I'd pilot a mech at some point, because of screenshots. But they're just enemies.
I played long enough to form an opinion. I don't feel compelled to play any longer.

A perfect remaster for a nearly perfect adventure game

This game was formative for me. Not only was it the first adventure game I played, it also introduced me to a lot of American cultural staples. And its humour helped shape mine.

DOTT is a sort-of-sequel to Maniac Mansion, an older game (which is playable inside DOTT, by the way!). Friends Bernard, Laverne and Hoagie must travel back in time - courtesy of a shoddy time machine by Dr Fred - to prevent Purple Tentacle from gaining super intelligence (and arms!) and conquering the world. Instead, our three protagonists are accidentally scattered across time - far past, present and far future - and have to both rescue themselves and accomplish their original goal.
That's a summary of the silly premise, and the game is just as silly.

How that translates in terms of gameplay is that you have three playable characters occupying the same space - a motel where the events of the game take place - but at different periods in history. You control all three, solving puzzles, sometimes affecting the future, and sending items back and forth among them via the time machine.
This all makes your typical point-and-click puzzle solving a bit more interesting, as you need to think about what all three characters need and remember what items and NPCs and puzzles each version of the motel contains.

As for this modern remaster, I'm very happy to say they did an excellent job. It is basically how we imagine the original version in our minds. The music is also remastered, but I prefer the original. Lucky for everyone, the original art and music (and interface) are included and can be mixed and matched at will. I played modern art & interface with original music.

What I enjoyed
  • Triple the playable characters, triple the puzzles, triple the inventory, etc.
  • Cartoony, funny, and not obnoxious (you hear that, Deponia?)
  • The remastered art is excellent, making the whole game widescreen and crisp looking.
  • The new radial action menu is a huge improvement on the old action bar, allowing for faster play while keeping the variety of options that give you all sorts of fun dialogue.
What I didn't like
  • This being an early 90s adventure game, the puzzles can be nonsensical sometimes - you have to apply "comedy logic" to some of them, which can get frustrating.
  • All the things you have to do across all the characters can get a bit overwhelming sometimes and you might forget what to do next. I'd suggest playing this game in as few sessions as possible, because you will forget stuff otherwise. Maybe take notes.

I just relived a piece of my childhood, and it was just as good.

Casual puzzle game. Cute, lots of levels. Not a fan of the timed mode. I lost interest very quickly, but that's just me and not the game. Thumbs up!

Awful, terrible gameplay getting in the way of a memorable story.

Negative recommendations for this game get downvoted into oblivion, but I don't care.

The music is lovely, and the ending is memorable and well done, but neither justifies having to deal with the awful gameplay.

I would have enjoyed this much more as a short film, with the same story and music. Instead I had to click through hundreds of short lines of dialogue (sometimes funny, with a couple of thoughtful lines, but mostly contrived) and move the characters through horrible navigation grids while trying to find the terribly laid out clickable hotspots, in a tedious cycle.

The ending is pretty nice though.

I'm not hardcore enough for this game, I just can't get used to the gameplay and the lack of savegame. But it's cheap and well made and I see the appeal.

If you like a difficult game with a simple gameplay that's easy to explain and hard to master, go for this one.
