New World is Fantastic, for the right person.

As someone who has put a lot of time and effort into other MMO's, I went into New World completely blind, expecting a rather generic MMO. Tab targeting, fetch quests, all the bells and whistles of a regular old run on the mill MMO. I was going to put a fair few hours but I was probably going to drop it and go back to Guild Wars 2. I can quite safely say, I have no launched Guild Wars 2 since the release date of New World and I don't have any intentions of going back any time soon. I was completely blown away by this game. From the graphics, to the combat, to the interesting Planetside esque faction system which I was not expecting at all.

Gameplay

In New World the majority of your game time is going to be spent levelling (I have over 140 hours and I'm only level 48). This can be done through a multitude of ways from regular questing to life skilling. The levelling process itself is... quite painful, for some players, others might not mind it as much, I myself am not the most fond of it and it feels like it takes a while but never enough to where I feel demotivated. It mainly consists of going from point A to B, collecting a few whatever it is that the game wants you to collect then going back to town to give in the quest, rinse and repeat for 200 hours. That might sound off putting and to some it is however there is a load of other activities in the world that also equate to the levelling process, for example, life skilling and crafting. This is how you're going to be getting your late game gear so it's important that you level up these things while you progress through the levels. There is also the townboard which is a branch of life skilling that gives you a fair chunk of XP for giving materials to the town that you're based in. When I found out about this at level 30 I gained 2 levels in 15 minutes however had spent all of money and Azoth like an idiot. There is also dungeons which can be done at level 25 then every 10 levels after that. They're all extremely good and very fun to play through with a group. The mechanics in some of these boss fights are really interesting and never feel like they're too difficult or overwhelming. Combine those fights with a Dark Souls combat system and you've got the second best combat system in any MMO that I've ever played (only behind BDO).

Graphics

I mean, where to start on this. It's probably the best MMO for graphical fidelity, perhaps not the best artstyle as other MMO's have a more striking art direction but New World is up there when it comes to it's looks. Bumping the graphics up to Ultra on my GTX 1070Ti I'm seeing about 50-60 FPS outside of cities and about 30FPS inside cities, not the best running thing in the world but my god does it look good. Going through forest and seeing the light rays shine through the leaves, a gentle mist rolling across the floor covering the vast amount of flora that are sprinkled around. It's truly gorgeous and it invites you to become immersed in the world. The areas aren't the most interesting when compared to over areas but it doesn't stop them from being some of the most eyepoppingly pretty things I've seen in any MMO.

PVP

PVP is a core mechanic to this game, late game you are going to be killing people left and right as you storm castles, cities, forts, and zerging opposing factions in the open world. The map is split up into different zones and different guilds can then fight over these zones in 50v50 sieges and I have to say, it's truly a unique experience. The ONLY game I can think of that comes close is Albion Online, with it's very large PVP battles, however, unlike Albion, the screen doesn't tank down to 5-10FPS and, while there is a dip, you're more than able to fight at 30-40FPS.

Overall

Overall, I'm really liking this game and enjoying spending my sick days on it, even if I am horrendously ill right now. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a change up from WoW and wants something similar to Albion but not as hardcore or punishing. It's a perfect fit for me between the two as I found WoW kind of boring in areas and Albion to be, as I said, a little too punishing, even if I did spend over 300 hours in it. I can easily see myself sinking a stupid amount of time in this game. One note, this might be the same for every server but in my case the general community has been rather racist. Our server has a Turkish streamer on it so there has been a lot of anti Turkish sentiment and now it feels like 10% of my faction refer to anyone from that guild as a kebab. Luckily, the guild I've joined is just one of the nicest places I've been in a while, they're even trans inclusive and I've not felt nervous around them all. If you're on the Abaton EU server, the syndicate guild Fortunes Wrath, come join.

If you like BR games, this is probably the best one to go for right now.

HL2RP has become my cocaine. It's unhealthy.

Also the Linux port is pretty good.

I bought this on launch and it never worked, could never get into servers, then the game worked but at a low FPS for a while so I stopped playing. Came back to it yesterday and whatever they've done it means that I now need to tab out every 15 - 20 seconds otherwise the game gets locked to 4FPS (down from 50-60) for no reason. I've tried V-Sync, Frame smoothing, and uncapped, nothing is working.

It's been over a year and the game is still unplayable. Worst 24 quid I've spent in a long time.

EDIT: I wrote this review after Alt + F4ing the game. It has managed to crash Vivaldi, Discord, and BNet somehow. WTF is up with this game.

Like Black Ops 2? Yeah this is basically that. Been playing it on and off for years. No P2W or any of that bollocks. Worth a download.

It works on Linux really damn well! The game runs well and the controls feel weird but work. Pulling of tricks feels so good even if they might not be anything special in the grand scheme of things.

Played a little bit of it this week with friends and it's really fun! Love the wall jump mechanic with the whole CPMA movement style. It's a arena shooter I will dabble in more! Also it works on Linux and that's a big plus for me!

Wallpaper Engine has some awesome background and it should be on every computer, as long as it's a newer chip generation since you gotta squeeze every ounce of performance that you can if it's older.

I hate the fact I put 20 hours into this game over 2 days. It's so fun.
