Great game for people with no skillIssue


On a serious note, this game was my first dive to souls-like and from soft games back in late 2022.
Souls games always seemed scary to me even though I was an avid monhun fan. After seeing the acclaim
of the base game I decided to dip my toes in it and put my big boy pants up.
It has soon become one of my favorite games of all time.

Beyond the difficulty and the struggle
is a very beautiful and rich open world game. It is one of the vastest and vertically rich I have ever played.
Every few minutes you will see something new and the world truly feels alive. it has Interesting characters with rich side quests worth doing. The set pieces for the dungeons are breath taking and the boss designs are some of the best I've seen in gaming. They also did a great job with the ost's at evoking feelings of grandeur to the player.

If I had to nitpick something it would probably just how they tell the story. Some people are a fan of it but I for one wish the lore wasn't hidden in items so much so that I'd have to watch Youtube videos for it. There are also some recycled bosses in small dungeons which i'm not really that much a fan of.

Now on to the dlc. From new weapons, to new bosses and mobs. A map as big as HALF of the base game. The new questlines are expansive on the new characters as they explore past concepts and stories that were never expound upon in base game. The set pieces are just as immersive as base game. My only nitpick would be how some new weapon types lack in number. For example there are only two hand to hand arts and one throwing knives. I do wish we got more of those espescially since there were lots of perfume. Another one would be how the map feels less rich compared to base but maybe its because the bar the base game set up was really high. Overall, this dlc is the perfect expansion to base and is worth the asking price. The DLC is a great expansion of the base game and a natural progression from it.

Overall the game definitely has some blemishes since of course no game is objectively perfect. However, for me this is as perfect as a game can come. It is an amazing game and I would recommend anyone to try it even if they've never played a souls-like before. You will be in for quite a spectacle whether you are a casual or a hardcore gamer.

Mini rant on review bombing shenanigans:

Was the dlc hard? After beating the dlc twice I can safely say, yes it was. HOWEVER, thats how it was made to be. You're supposed to learn and overcome the boss every time you die. Did people just forget their first elden ring run with no op builds from yt? Isn't that why we play From Soft games and souls-like instead of Sony triple A games? If you wanted an easy time, theres realism slop like Horizons forbidden west on sale right now. If you could beat Malenia in base game, you should have the fundamentals to learn and adapt to the bosses in the DLC. Especially the final boss and Rellana. Even then, If the game is too hard they specifically give the players tools to make it easier via summons and scadutree blessings. The only critique that should be worth saying would be how less rich the map is compared to base and the performance issues some are having in the dlc. It is not "too hard", it is simply just right.

Was forced to buy this game by some friends so we can play together.

Idk wtf i'm doing but its fun af.

Single player:

Great game so far. Cygames cooked with this one. That first boss hooked me in ngl.

Steamdeck:

tried it in a 4 hr flight and ran well once you lock it to 30 fps. Pretty smooth though I heard it does drop if you enter the town. Have yet to try it.

Multiplayer (my problem) :

Its good. It fills my mon hun crack kinda.
Unfortunately my main reason for getting this game was to play with my friends.
They added region lock so I cant play with some of them.
Especially sucks since i'm not in one country a lot.

I wanna like this game so bad and I still would recommend it so far since the single player is great but as the multiplayer's region lock stands, it does sour my opinion of this game.it was me and my friends' main draw to playing this game.
Might edit this review once they fix the region lock and I finish the main story.
