Darktide has a penance system to unlock a minor amount of cosmetics through challenges, there are also re-colors of these basic penance cosmetics in the item shop for in-game currency....... the remain vast majority, which "coincidentally" has all the interesting & exciting, Cosmetics (aka CONTENT) are LOCKED behind a premium currency PAYWALL.
Your statement, by every observable metric, is the exact OPPOSITE of what the devs are doing. Call me old, even though I'm just in my mid 20s, but I remember a time when cosmetics were in game content with value because they were hand out as reward for difficult challenges or gameplay milestones. This is CONTENT that kept many players coming back and playing the game to unlock them, keeping the community active for longer. Something a game like darktide, who's backbone is having a community to play with, has ripped out.
