Fun little game about having to micromanage the unseen mundane in what is otherwise a word-for-word 80's cop film, paper-thin plot and one-dimensional characters included. Definitely worth a romp-around, but you can't take it too seriously. It's styled after 80's cop films, after all. However, the game's got a problem with a nasty bug that will freeze your character in place if you click through dialogue too quickly, or if multiple prompts come up at once. The only way to fix it is to restart the day, or let the day complete itself. This isn't uncommon either considering the game's based around managing prompts. It sucks when this happens.

This game is the perfect example of utilizing the medium of video games to convey a story. Far too often, story-based games are little more than movies or comics where you get to choose your own adventure. This Is The Police outshines the competition by exploiting the interactivity of games to their fullest potential. The frustrations of bureaucratic incompetence will bear down on you as the tools at your disposal are stripped away from you because of poor performance, in turn worsening your ability to perform. The act of balancing the powers of opposed interests are made all the more difficult by withholding the specific effects of your actions from you; you won't get twenty tabs of numbers to tell you exactly what you've done. And the degree to which the player character is losing his grip on the city is amplified by those rare moments when you simply don't have enough officers to respond to every call. Or worse, you try to spread yourself too thin, or cobble together what little you have, only to have it all fall apart with the revelation that you've sent these officers to their deaths. While the game itself is a little too long for its own good, I'd still more than easily recommend this game.

Keep in mind that you will NOT be able to handle every situation perfectly, and you will NOT be treated like some sherlock holmes mastermind. You are going to get officers and civilians killed, and it will be your fault. This is all part of the storytelling. If you can't stomach that, you'll probably hate this game.

Caution will get you killed. Recklessness will get you killed. The only difference is what you learn by experimentation, learning what works and what doesn't, all in the name of chaining together that perfect combo at speeds you can't even see. Absolutely incredible game.

I personally dislike how CS (the entire franchise) handles gunplay (bullets go where not aiming, definitely not a memorization contest) but this one was too impactful on the FPS genre to leave a negative review for.

This one REALLY shows its age, in that charming blast-from-the-past way. Still worth picking up all these years later. Just don't be expecting anything remotely similar to Siege.

The stylization of the game in the fashion of an Old West dime novel is executed perfectly, and every bit of the gunplay from dual revolvers to coachguns to duels is unbelievably satisfying. Combined, you get a fresh of breath air into the Western shooter setting, all in a tightly-kept campaign that neither leaves you wanting nor overstays its welcome. Arthur Morgan, eat your heart out.

It's a real power creep ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of a game with an exceptionally hollow story that really just serves as an excuse to put a gun in your hands. And you know what? Sometimes, that's exactly what I want. Sometimes I want to get kitted out with ridiculous ♥♥♥♥ and turn the hardest difficulty of the game into a daycare. But I can get this exact same experience with literally any, ANY other Ubisoft title released after 2013, Siege excluded. It's why my playtime in Far Cry 4 is what it is - I simply never bothered blowing $60 on a different title that would have given me the exact same experience. And from that perspective, no, there's not really any reason to prefer this game to any of the dozens of others exactly like it.
