Code editor 2 will be released soon and it is a pretty big downgrade over what we currently have. Code will be forced to take up the entire screen and the visually organized tab event system is being thrown out. You will no longer be allowed to edit code in a window. You must edit code in fullscreen at all times. If this sounds asinine to you, that's because it is.

GM became popular due to how intuitive and simple it was. Once these features are removed, there isn't really a reason to use GM over the competition anymore.

Commit to keeping windowed code editing and event tab views around and I'll change my review back.

Open Steam overlay, crash. Try to take a screenshot, crash. Crashes if you look at it the wrong way.
It also only really looks decent when standing still. Regardless of settings, there's an insane amount of ghosting and noise added from the NVIDIA stuff. What's the point of 4K assets when you have to run the game with blurry DLSS to make it playable? Orbifold obviously put in a lot of work updating all the assets, so it's a shame to see it ruined by NVIDIA's proprietary, half-baked graphics solutions that they will inevitably drop support for in the future anyways. RTX was a mistake.

I like it so far. I've played the original games for thousands of hours, mostly about 17-18 years ago, so I know how the game works pretty well. The game functions pretty similarly, but there are some differences/annoyances I've noticed.

1. Moving items around is no longer click to toggle, you have to click and hold. This isn't a huge deal, but it doesn't feel natural if you've played the original games. An option to change this would be nice. If you have never played the FATE games before, this might not be an issue at all for you.

2. Fishing is MUCH slower than the original games. I'm almost wondering if the wait timer is tied to the framerate or something, because it feels unintentionally slow. I don't have any real evidence of this though. Hopefully this can be adjusted in an update.

3. This game doesn't appear to be anywhere near as moddable as the originals. This was one of the best features of the original games. Data files for weapons, items, enemies, and tilemaps were exposed and easily edited, allowing for some great mods back in the day. Hopefully something like this can be added in the future.

4. The biggest issue is that it's a bit buggy at the moment. The ESC key doesn't seem to work the first time you press it after closing a menu. Anti-aliasing is non-functional as the option does not actually save in the config file when you change it. Some actions don't play sounds effects or play the wrong sound effects. Quests are given after visiting a dungeon level you've already been on (this shouldn't happen) leading to many of them being impossible to complete. The game is basically unplayable if you are using Intel ARC GPUs. Monster path-finding isn't great.

With all that said, the game has been out for 3 days at the time of writing this. The developers have a very active Discord server where they are collecting suggestions and bug reports, and they seem to be invested in this. I won't be leaving a negative review because I think this game is 85-90% of the way there to being a very good remaster. Every problem I've listed can be fixed in updates.

Hopefully they will stick with it and patch things up, because this is very good otherwise.

Having to create an account and sign in to play the single-player mode is an automatic no from me. The community was outraged when this online-only thing was applied to the Steam releases of the 90s Doom games and it was removed in response. I don't understand why people aren't equally as upset with online-only single-player in this release. There's also a bug that randomly crashes the game when loading a new area or when respawning that has gone unfixed since release.

Even if those two things were fixed, I didn't enjoy this nearly as much as its predecessor. There's too many puzzle elements that completely break the flow of the game. It seems like every time the game's pace picks up and starts to be fun, everything is halted while I have to solve some pointless puzzle that feels like it only exists to pad out the game. This game rapidly and constantly shifts from being extremely chaotic to being a boring, Myst-esque puzzle game. The puzzle elements often have unhelpful or even misleading waypoint markers that can waste even more time.

The difficulties are also really unbalanced in my opinion. The easiest difficulty is sometimes still brutally difficult (I'm playing on a controller, so your mileage may vary). If you ever get caught without any ammo you are basically helpless since the melee does quite literally zero damage. I understand that difficulty is subjective and some people won't have this problem at all, but I don't think the easiest difficulty should be as hard as it is.

I like what I've seen so far. This game has nice graphics that run pretty well even on Ryzen 5600G integrated graphics. (720p with a mixture of high/ultra settings). I am also impressed by the quality of the dragons' animations. It seems like a lot of care and passion went into these remakes.

It's a good game, but ultrawide users should note that there's a forced zoom that ruins the game. You have to edit the .exe with a hex editor every update to fix it. Why this is still an issue in 2022 is beyond comprehension.

I like this game, but the matchmaking is broken. Nearly every match is either a draw or you'll lose with the enemy having one heart left on their last pet. It happens far too often to not be rigged in some way.

Hippo is still broken many updates later and they refuse to fix it. Horse + summon builds still dominate early game.

Lots of fun. Tons of challenges to complete, some being incredibly difficult. Easy to recommend.

Such a classic. The music here is all great, too.

This is a really good version of the game, though it did crash on me in the middle of a map. It would also be nice to have 21:9 support (is there a mod for that?)
