Frankly, HL2 is a game that has aged wonderfully in terms of its graphics, the jaggedness of it are part of its charm today. This RTX remix, however, misses the mark. The game rarely will ever look like how it does in the promos, it often looks far worse in that its extremely pixelated for what it is. Many of these benefits from the RTX shown here could also be better achieved with updated textures and shaders.

What a great game! I can't believe the smile burger girl would cheat on her police officer boyfriend! Isn't she also cheating on me and our... 50 something year relationship? No...

Genuinely, there is nothing I can say about this game to truly express how happy I am about it. This game is everything I love about Slavic game design, and everything I like about Slavic storytelling. It takes my favorite elements of Metro and STALKER and puts it into a well developed package. Easily one of the best games to come out in a very long time and worth every penny. Frankly waiting for this game for 15 years... now that I get to play it I really can say that it was 100 percent worth it. Not all the developers and writers got to see this day, many have died in the ongoing War in Ukraine. However I'm sure that if they could see it, they'd be proud.

Do not, under any circumstance, listen to idiots who tell you that this game is poorly optimized. It runs well for what it is, and I am getting 60 fps on medium settings. My specs are 16 gigs DDR4 RAM, a Ryzen 7 2700x, a RTX3070, a MSI 470X motherboard, and it is running off an HDD. There are some loading issues, in no small part due to the fact that I am using that HDD and my RAM is not at 32 gigs, but that is to be expected. Genuinely confused by the people saying they're using ultra beefy rigs and getting frame drops... did they install their GPU right?

A fantastic subsim if you are willing to sit down and take some time to learn how submarine warfare works, and has various different difficulty settings that make each playthrough different. Mods also allow for you to make the game even harder so you can reach real painful levels of submarine simulation. Just be aware that most of the mods, however, have not been updated in some time so many are not working. The important ones do... for the most part.

I'm going to give a very different review: The textures look great.

The real issue is bombers still do not have cockpits other then the trash tier 'placeholder' ones they added like 8 years ago. Gaijin has stated that apparently to make a cockpit for a bomber would take 'as much effort as it would to make a entire tech tree' to which I say 'then make bomber cockpits we don't need a Icelandic tech tree.

I'd just gotten out of prison. Its been years since I saw her face. You'd think being a regular in her shop for 40 years would justify some type of response... perhaps a Smile Burger Free Smile™ maybe? She refused. I asked her why, and she had a response that shocked me to my core.

She isn't the smile burger girl, simply a smile burger girl. She's only 16, and she's just doing a summer job to save money for school and partially because her parents demanded her to. I was distraught. Where is the Smile Burger Girl? Where'd she go? Why did she leave me? Why did she leave... us?

The impostor called security, and they escorted me to a esoteric secret location called a 'holding cell' for 'questioning' and accused me of the (not) crime of 'Stalking'. Stalker happens to be one of my favorite games, and I was thrilled the police officer enjoyed it too, though it seems he didn't know.

Developers absolutely abandoned this game. Do not buy.

good bad and ugly:

Good:

The graphics are great and gameplay is fluid
the way the gamemodes work now is far less static and focuses more on counterattacks, which is quite fun.

The verticality makes no two games the same and honestly is fascinating.

Bad:

The unlocks are now based on quests you have to do in game, if I could put this in 'meh' I would.

The Ugly:

Overtime. The overtime mechanic activates anytime tickets on attackers reach zero with ONE man in the cap zone. Attackers get infinite respawns. If overtime is activated defenders rarely will win.
There are far less rifles in this game, mainly due to their moving away from the unit system.
With less rifles comes less class variety
With less rifles comes less dimensions to gameplay


Overall: Sure buy it, but don't expect it to be nearly as good as Verdun. Blackmill just do verdun 2 for gods sake.

I've only just started, and I am already sad that this game will end eventually. Frankly, I haven't liked a game this much in a very, very long time. Absolutely incredible black salt, knocked it out of the park. Everything from sound design to minutia of gameplay is spot on, and I put it strongly in the 'Single Player Games everyone must play' category right alongside Yakuza and Half Life.

God please keep working on this game I beg you, there are so many stories that could be told and hours of entertainment that could be made, I really do hope this becomes a regular name in the single player industry.

edit: I've now 100 percent completed the game. Strongly recommend.
