The game does not appear to have full controller support, as advertised. I'm using a wired xbox 360 controller, and it was unplayable for me. The first thing I did was to look at the discussion forum for the game to see if anyone else had posted about the issue. I noticed that another player posted last month about the very same thing, and that, like me, the player was wondering what he or she was doing wrong. However, there was no assistance offered to this player, so I added my experience to the mix and went looking elsewhere.

The next thing I did was to look at the reviews to see if anyone else had pointed out a controller issue. After reviewing them all, I came to the conclusion that the one negative review mentioning the control issue was probably accurate, and the positive reviews must be inaccurate, based on gameplay with a mouse, or for an entirely different game. I went back to the game, determined to figure it out.

Just to get into the game, I had to use the "generate random save name" option, because the game would not allow me to simply overwrite or continue from the save game I already had. Once I was in the game, I couldn't get back out without using alt+tab and closing the game window. The escape key didn't work, and none of the controller buttons/triggers helped me to exit the game. I figured out that pressing up on the left joystick and A created a stunted tiny jump that didn't seem purposeful and that I could double hop to gain a tiny bit more altitude, but not near enough to reach the heights that were apparently necessary. I did decipher that the displayed tip instructing use of the E key to enter the first level could be accomplished with the B button. Nothing else was possible with the controller.

I switched to the mouse to see what it was exactly I supposed to be able to do. Could I fly, wall-jump, sprint, build stairs, or throw fireballs? Did I have a magnet to draw all the shiny little loot my way? That wasn't helpful, either. I thought for about a minute that perhaps the game really had partial controller support and that I could play using a combination of the two, but that was a train wreck. I sat there looking at the screen for a moment trying to figure out what I was missing, and I noticed the little puffy character sliding to the right in very small increments across the bridge. Well, that was new at least.

I then tried jumping over to the wall, thinking that maybe I could jump up the wall, but instead my character got stuck to the wall, eventually plummeting to a very confusing death. Artistically, I was unimpressed, but of course, I didn't get very far in the game, so there may have been some spectacular audiovisual experience resulting in a rebirth of the senses at some point, but it's unlikely from what I saw.

I never could figure out how to use the controller to complete the first level. The only thing I did learn when attempting to figure out a working controller scheme was that pressing left shift on my keyboard five times is the shortcut to activate sticky keys in Windows 10, so thanks for that. In closing, I simply cannot recommend this game in its current state.

I cannot recommend this game to the gaming population in general, or even platformer enthusiasts in general. I can only honestly recommend this game for a very specific type of player.

The game should appeal to younger gamers and those looking for a very casual gaming experience, and even more specifically, players that won't mind, or won't notice, the "cookie-cutter" level design that is repetitious and unimaginative.

However, there is an additional issue with the controls and the texture of the surfaces. That issue is that the surfaces provide absolutely no traction or resistance, meaning that the entire game is like playing an "ice" world/level in another game. This can be challenging and fun in small doses, but when a game is like that in its entirety, especially when it's obviously suited for younger and/or casual gamers, it doesn't make sense.

During my gameplay, I had extreme difficulty with this, because the character slides when you're not touching the controls, causing the cat to slip right over the edge of very short horizontal ledges and surfaces and to slide down on vertical surfaces.

Wall-jumping mechanics are also flawed here because of this slippage. It's difficult to jump from one vertical surface to another without sliding backwards or overshooting entirely.

I also noticed that the jump height and distance were inconsistent. At times, the cat jumped higher or further than it did during consecutive attempts in the same spot, and I couldn't figure out a reason for that other than design flaw. I didn't find a double jump, high jump, or sprint capability, so that didn't explain it, either.

I was also disappointed by the poor grammar and spelling, which was distracting to me and seems likely due to poor English translation.

Gamers looking for an immersive storyline in which to engage will not find that here. That aspect was also way below the average "grab the coins/gems" jumping platformers. As one who sometimes just wants to play a game without having to think too much, I can appreciate why the level design and problem solving/strategy aspects might have been purposely simplistic, but when the design itself or game mechanics, such as movement and controls, introduce illogical and inconsistent difficulty, that appreciation for a purposeful decision is replaced by disappointment for error and/or complacency. The resulting confusion and frustration completely negate any appreciation.

I actually had this game on my wishilist and was very happy to see it come up in a recent bundle offer. If I'd paid full price for this game, I'd be much more disappointed than I am, and most likely very upset.

If you can find the game for a buck or two (or included in a bundle) and the issues I've mentioned don't deter you, then this may in fact be a game for you to try. On the other hand, if you're seeking consistency, high replayability, immersive storyline, a challenging puzzle platformer, or unique level design, then you're best looking elsewhere.

This is another platormer that I really wanted to enjoy. As other reviewers have stated, there is definitely an artistic element to appreciate in some places.

Being a shorter game is never a reason for a negative review in my opinion, because good games can always find an audience, regardless of length.

However, the graphics are not consistent throughout the game, and there comes a point where existential and abstract becomes unnecessary and irrelevant. The camera view isn't optimal, and the controls need some modification.

There is no tutorial, which is generally a positive aspect in my opinion, but when coupled with the confusing storyline and missing "cues" that are meant to direct gameplay, it only serves to compound the confusion of this gamer.

I'd like to see an update to address some of the issues and tighten up everything so that there is consistency and logic from start to finish. Then, I'd be glad to revisit this game, as it certainly has potential.

As a fan of retro platformers, I thought I was going to like this game, but I find myself disappointed, instead.

The playing area of the screen is very small, making it extremely difficult, even with the full-screen option enabled, to see things as clearly as is necessary. The cutesy pixel-graphics combined with the small "playing field" make it very difficult to see.

Also, I tend to prefer it when there is not a tutorial, unless game mechanics are complex enough to warrant a tutorial, so the developers including the text "tutorial" with button instructions seems like an odd and unnecessary choice.

Additionally, the controls are not what I would consider intuitive or smooth. I had difficulty moving and jumping at the same time on many occasions. Jumping height and distance were not consistent, and the button layout for the controller is awkward.

I'd consider giving this game another try if some of these issues are resolved.

This is a really fantastic game. I have a copy of the PC version and decided to revisit the game on Steam. This has got to be one of the funniest gaming experiences I've ever had. There's not much about this game that's "politically correct," but there's a whole lot of funny, and I'm having a blast.

The character traits are very much like hexes and hardcore disadvantages used in other games to increase challenge and promote replayability. I found myself trying every new character, class, and trait I came across just to see how badly my character would be impaired. The O.C.D. trait is perfect for me, because I never met a destructible I could pass up. Well, I'm on about Lady Charlotte the three-hundred-and-sixty-first now (see exaggeration trait-though it sure does feel that way sometimes!) and have never experienced the same butt-kicking twice.

The graphics are sharp and vivid, unless they're not meant to be due to said impairments, and the controls are very responsive. There is a lot of opportunity for character upgrades and additional features, items, weapons, and armor. That coupled with the randomized map means that even hardcore gamers are not likely to get bored, or experience every scenario this game has to offer, anytime soon.

The Steam achievements are fantastic, and the looting aspect of the game definitely appeals to those who love rogue games and dungeon crawlers. Any connoisseur of platformers should also give this a try.

This is a really fantastic platformer! I love that it's a bit darker, like a dank dungeon, and the wide variety of items and weapons are really fun to experiment with.

The pixel-graphics are well-done, and the soundtrack enhances the tone and feel of this game. There are secret levels to uncover and Steam achievements that are perfectly attainable, most occurring naturally with game progression.

I would definitely recommend this to any gamer looking for a classic platforming experience. The controls are smooth, and gameplay is pretty straightforward, albeit with a few surprises. Hidden items and doors to secret levels make this a truly classic platforming scavenger hunt.

I really wanted to like this game. Platformers and ARPGs are my absolute favorite types of games to play, and I'm interested in most things with a fantasy, paranormal, or medieval aspect.

This game seemed to include fantasy, platforming, and alternate/parallel realities that you can switch between. I thought it would compare to Chronology, Giana Sisters Twisted Dreams, and Contrast.

Unfortunately, I found myself frustrated with the poor controller function. I'm not an impatient gamer, so I hung with it awhile, but no matter how hard I tried, there was no consistency to the controls. Sometimes controller function worked the way I expected, and sometimes it didn't. In games like this, though, there must be consistency. You can't have "quick-switch" mechanics if the controls are unreliable.

For example, in an early level where you see the text, "sometimes just wait," I couldn't move to the right or left and jump at the same time, and just simply jumping didn't get the character where it needed to go. I finally gave up and just fell off the first landing to the left, only to land at the finish line below. That shouldn't happen.

The graphics and artwork were okay and even a bit interesting from a minimalist standpoint, but I did notice the poor grammar in some of the text.

This game needs a lot of work, but I'd be among the first to pick it back up once changes are made.

Crusaders of the Lost Idols is one that I'd recommend for casual gamers. This is definitely a click-fest, so get your trigger finger ready and dust off the mouse pad.

The graphics are clear and vivid, and some of the characters are truly expressive and unique. Levels are pretty much endless, as monsters will continue to generate.

There is also a strategy to this game, as character upgrades and character formation can increase your loot and reduce the amoutn of clicking that's required.

You'll also find a social aspect with in-game chat, daily activities, and a very good soundtrack. I decided to check out this game during a promotion, and it was definitely entertaining.

It does contain some steam achievements, but the in-game achievements are much more attainable. For those who specifically look for games with the intention of maxing out achievements, keep in mind that you're in it for the long haul.

If, however, you're looking for a casual game that you can play at your desk over a lunch break without becoming too involved in a campaign, or a game that you can build up to the point where it pretty much functions on its own, then this is a game you might enjoy.

I'm in LOVE with Victor Vran! I love the dungeon crawling, rogue, hack & slash ARPG gameplay. I've seen this game compared to several, including Diablo and Van Helsing, and overall, I agree with the general comparison. There are some very unique elements, though, including demon powers, destiny cards, and transmutation.

I've put in more than 200 hours of gameplay at this point and am at level 50 +3 renown. I've had a blast playing around with the variety of weapons and attributes, bounties, and treasure hunts. There are many secrets to uncover, a plethora of destructibles to smash, and an impressive amount of items to loot.

There are also some really challenging, yet attainable, achievements. You'll find both in-game achievements, ranging from normal to elite, and also Steam achievements which mirror in-game challenges or happen naturally with progressive gameplay.

The soundtrack is very good and serves to enhance the gothic feel that this game has. There is a bit of humor in the narration and many classic cultural references made throughout the game. It's nearly impossible to experience everything on just one playthrough, but I certainly challenge you to try.

Collectors like myself will enjoy the cards, achievements, and the truly massive amount of weapons and items available to obtain. There are different styles of combat, including the standard adventurer's melee, thaumaturge, and arcane mechanic, with specific weapons and items for each. That translates to a great deal of replayability.

The gaming environment is stunning, and there is a lot of content. Even the most experienced gamer will find a challenge here, and amateur engineers should have fun with the transmutation aspect. There's a great deal of satisfaction in creating the "perfect" weapon, and of course, transmutation can be used to create items for your collection that you haven't found yet, especially the elusive legendaries.

I love everything about this game, and it's likely to be played many times. I sincerely hope the developers are working on a sequel. This game is in my absolute favorite genre, and I would welcome additional content and exploration of this fantastic gaming environment.

Overall, I do recommend this game and had a wonderful time with it. The soundtrack was very good, and the graphics were extremely well-done. I absolutely loved this gaming world and would love to see more of it.

There were a few things that caught my attention and felt a little "off." The first is how the character moves, very grid-like on straight and diagonal lines. Everything about this world is "sharp" visually speaking, as part of the steampunk and angular design, so I wonder if Red's movement was also intentional and reflective of this. If it's intentional, it's certainly cohesive, but it does feel a bit odd at times, because it takes practice lining up jumps and combat. There were many times that I'd be firmly on one edge jumping to another and end up in the water or some other unseen abyss. The same goes for combat, because there were a few times that I didn't understand why I was taking damage, why my hits weren't landing, or why I hit something I never should have hit.

I loved the world, but I will admit that there were times when the environment made my path unclear. Gamers rely on certain cues to tell us where the developers intend for us to go, and in this case, the scenery muddles that a bit. There is a compromise, though, because I noticed that certain surfaces will flash, like a reflection, to indicate intended pathways, and of course, you can use the magic skill which draws your attention to items in the immediate vicinity that are of interest.

I had one issue during gameplay that actually was confounding, and that was during the Woolfe Industries stage. There's a box that you're supposed to knock down that creates a gap on the left side of the building, but mine would never break even with restarts. I had to jump on top of it to get to the sign, and I took damage when jumping down below. It wasn't a huge deal, but it was something I could never figure out.

On the positive side, the story leaves room for continuation, and I really enjoyed my first playthrough. The platforming elements are such that a casual player won't get frustrated, yet the Steam achievements, though attainable, do come bit of challange and are likely to appeal to a more avid gamer.

The terrific world design meant that there was plenty of "eye-candy" to keep my attention. The minor oddities I pointed out did not detract from my gameplay, and I enjoyed it enough that I would purchase a sequel. I also look forward to a second playthrough.
