I'm very impressed with Juju. The graphics are absolutely beautiful, full of vibrant colors. The scenery and gameplay mechanics remind me of elements of Candyland, Mousetrap, Giana Sisters, Toki Tori, and even older NES games. It's absolutely perfect for kids, but I was surprised to find that I enjoyed it as well.

Degree of difficulty builds gradually throughout the game, and controls are very basic. There's no need for a tutorial here, but players will find brief "hint bubbles" when new elements are introduced. Character abilities are obtained through normal gameplay, adding new dynamics to the game.

There are multiple worlds and areas with a lot of secret areas and hidden gems. Checkpoints are frequent, and death is in no way permanent, allowing for the player to restart from the last checkpoint. After multiple deaths, the player will also be given the option to play in easy mode if desired. There's absolutely no reason for rage fits with this game, yet there is enough of a challenge to entertain nearly any gamer with a fondness for platformers or casual games.

The controls are very responsive, and full controller support is provided with the game. While not noted in the game tags, there is also a co-op feature, allowing for a second player to join the game as a different character. Juju also sports challenging yet attainable achievements, which will appeal to gamers looking for their next 100% game.

There is definite replaybility here, as well. The hidden portals within each area work very much like a timed minigame, and finishing an area with a perfect score for all 3 portals, as well as finding all gems within the level, is a challenge for even seasoned adult gamers.

All in all, I've enjoyed it very much. While not complex, it's extremely well done and thoroughly enjoyable. It's very difficult to find a good platformer, because somewhere along the line, jumping, ducking, "easter egg" hunting, coin/gem collecting casual platformers went by the wayside to make room for the more convoluted "puzzle-platformers." If you're looking for a casual platformer, or if you long for the days of a straightforward platformer, you're going to want to give Juju a look.

I've had so much fun with Buff Knight Advanced! It's a casual game, and you'll definitely do quite a bit of rapid clicking or button mashing during this side-scrolling RPG.

There are two character classes (melee fighting knight or magic using sorceror) as well as weapon, armor, and character attributes to upgrade, multiple artifacts to find and upgrade, and a variety of monsters to slay over the course of 12 stages of gameplay. There are also story and endless modes, full-controller support, and very attainable achievements.

At this point, I only have the stage 12 boss to get through, and all of my stats and upgrades are maxed out. There's not much of a downside to this game, especially if you can pick it up on sale. It's perfectly enjoyable and simplistic. However, I have to admit that I wish there was more content and more items, weapons, and attributes to upgrade, because other than health and mana potions (which reset when you die) I have nothing on which to spend my gold and gems.

The soundtrack isn't complex, but the music and sound effects are appropriate and alert the player to what's coming. The pixel graphics are very well done, and I had no issues with seeing clearly and identifying what was on my rapidly scrolling screen.

Overall, I love this game. It's entertained me for 11+ hours at this point, and it was very refreshing to begin a game that wasn't full of complex puzzles or sporting an unrealistic degree of difficulty. This is perfect for a casual gamer, and it's got definite replayability with the two modes, achievements, rare artifacts, and scored stages.

Get your Buff on!

I've spent several hours playing Corgi Warlock, and overall, I have to say that I'm impressed with the game. It's a side-scrolling action platformer with monsters to kill, loot to collect, and upgrades to attain.

The graphics and soundtrack are good, and the controller mechanics are both consistent and responsive. I enjoy gaming with a controller, and nothing disappoints me more than a game that advertises full controller support but doesn't deliver. Corgi Warlock delivers.

There are 10 levels to the game, and so far, I've made it to level 7. What I thought at first was a casual gaming experience is actually really quite challenging. The layout of the levels isn't where the challenge comes in, it's the progression of monsters with varying degrees of health coming across the screen at a steadily increasing pace.

The additon of obstacles such as platforms over water, jumping sharks, and fireballs flying across the screen add unpredictability and the need for quick response time to the mix. As the levels progress, response time gets shorter and shorter while the difficulty increases, meaning that even the most hardcore gamers will find a challenge during the latter portions of the game.

I did experience a few oddities that I want to point out. The first is that killing a coin-dropping monster with a tower in the background results in coins getting stuck in mid-air on the screen. This can be re-created most easily in level 6 or any level where there are step-like platforms leading up to a higher level. The bottom level ends at a gray tower, meaning that you can't advance any further to the right. However, the monsters are coming from the right side of the screen, as well as the left, so if you stand right at the end of the bottom level and shoot, or jump up on a right-side platform and shoot, coins will regularly drop and fly up into the tower, getting stuck on the screen where your character cannot go.

This brings me to the second oddity, which is that the Steam Overlay doesn't seem to work with this game, and neither does the F12 button for taking screenshots. I wanted to take a screenshot of these trapped coins to publish, but I couldn't figure out how to do this. Neither F12 or the Print Screen button worked for me, and I was unable to use Alt-Tab and snip tool to clip a JPG. Anyone determined to get a screenshot would likely have to clip a frame out of a video streaming session.

Other than those couple of things, which really didn't reduce my enjoyment of the game, overall, I didn't experience anything that would cause me not to recommend the game. It's appropriate for young and casual gamers as well as experienced gamers looking for a challenge.

So far, I'm really enjoying Cornerstone: The Song of Tyrim. I pre-ordered it through Humble Bundle weeks before it actually came out, so it's fair to say that I was really anticipating this game. It's similar to games like The Last Tinker: City of Colors, and I enjoyed that one on PC before adding the steam version to my collection.

The graphics are excellent, and the detail in the characters, including facial expressions, is really a showcase of the developer's talent. Parents can also be assured that the content is suitable for a younger audience. If you or your child enjoyed Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas, The Last Tinker: City of Colors, or any of the 3-D Mario or Sonic games, this is definitely one to pick up.

There are multiple areas to explore, well-developed characters and a storyline that includes questing and interacting with members of the viking community. So far, it's evident that the developer put a lot of time and effort into giving these characters unique characteristics and personalities.

There is also a crafting component and a variety of items and weapons that can be crafted. I can see myself spending many hours with this game and definitely intend to do so.

Full controller support, responsive controls, and attainable achievements are always a plus for me, and this game has them all.

There's only one thing I want to point out that detracted from my experience, and that's motion sickness that I've experienced with some 3-D games that have a reduced FOV. I had to take a break once I realized that this was going to be one of those games for me, and the fix, for me, is a cooler, brighter room, sitting further away from the screen, and increasing FOV while reducing screensize. My rig is an ASUS gaming laptop with GTX 970 and G-Sync, so FPS, resolution, and stuttering are not factors for me, though they may be for others who experience motion sickness while gaming.

Overall, I'm intrigued with the game, and I feel that it's worth the price I paid for it. I intend to finish the game and explore to my heart's content. Definitely recommended for younger and experienced gamers looking for a new adventure RPG.

Below Kryll has been a very pleasant surprise for me. This is one of those games that sneaks up on you right at the moment when you realize just how big the gameworld and possibilities really are.

From a graphics standpoint, the game has a very retro-feel. The graphics aren't flashy, but they certainly do the job, creating a pixelated world to get lost in. The soundtrack is average, but I don't play these kinds of games for the soundtrack anyway, so that's not really a negative for me, though it is definitely relevant to a review like this.

The control scheme is better than average, advertising partial controller support, which is accurate. The control settings offer both standard and emulator keyboard settings with an ability to remap controls and built-in gamepad support for forward motion, jumping, dashing, wall-jumping, and other combat moves as these are unlocked with game advancement. Players will likely need to use their keyboard for menus, inventory, character stats, and maps.

Where Below Kryll really excels is in the content department. Between the regular developer-made levels, side quests, collectibles, and achievements, sandbox mode, and the player-developed worlds, there's a whole lot of content to both see and create here.

Gameplay is not complicated, but it is challenging, and it's certainly not boring. Just when you think you've got everything figured out, new levels, items, quests, and abilities unlock opening up new adventures and possibilities.

There are some cerebral components to the game, too, especially with timing, agility, and the creativity component.

Problem-solvers and experienced gamers are very likely to find a challenge here in the form of collectibles, items, abilities, and additional content, while casual gamers can very easily enjoy the game even without experiencing everything the game has to offer.

Regardless of what type of gamer you are, if you enjoy platforrmers, puzzle-platformers, RPGs, Ninja combat styles, collectibles, achievements, and player-developed content, such as that created in the Steam Workshop, I'd recommend giving Below Kryll a try.

I'm only 12 levels through the game at this point, but already I'm enjoying it immensely. This is what a platformer should feel like!

The graphics are awesome, and the controls are super responsive. There's no music, other than the loading screens, but the sound effects in-game are, for the most part, absolutely appropriate. I do feel like the use of the word, "yummy" is overdone and somewhat awkward, but that feels a bit nit-picky at this point.

There are quick-switch mechanics in this game, just like with Giana Sisters Twisted Dreams, Contrast, and Chronology, and this developer, like those who made the other outstanding games I mentioned, did it right.

This is a game for anyone looking for a platformer or even a mild puzzle-platformer. There is a little bit of puzzling and thinking to some of the levels, but the mix of pure, unthinking platforming enjoyment along with the challenge related to the quick-switch mechanics just feels right.

This is a game that can be played in short intervals, as there are checkpoints and brief levels referred to as, "incidents." Gamers looking for a casual experience or one that won't deprive them of daylight for the foreseeable future, should definitely give this one a try.

Mighty Switch Force! Hyper Drive Edition also has replaybility, because of the addition of personal best scores for timed levels and a speedrunning option, as well as the normal story mode, and even a harder difficulty level for hardcore gamers.

Most gamers will be able to find something to enjoy here. I definitely recommend it!

Unfortunately, I couldn't get the game to launch. I received an in-game promo code and decided to give this game a try, but I spent 20 minutes doing nothing but launching, shutting down, and re-launching the game. I kept getting a "Sphere3.exe is not responding" error, and the only thing that appeared to work on-screen was the Facebook ad with poor grammar. My rig is a 4 month old ASUS ROG gaming laptop with GTX 970, G-Sync, and WIndows 10. I'd be interested to know if other gamers with newer gaming machines are having compatability issues.

I love platformers, so there's not too many that I won't try. I was really looking forward to this game, because I love games that utilize a medieval setting or characters. However, this game fell flat on many levels.

Most disappointing was the controller function and actual gameplay mechanics. I found myself getting very frustrated, because the controls were inconsistent when utilizing a wired xbox 360 controller. No two jumps seem to be timed the same. There is often a delay, and the distance isn't predictable. I also found that forward motion plus the jump button resulted in my character falling off of platforms or completely missing jumps from one platform to another. In order to make certain jumps, I had to stand still, jump, then apply the forward motion or powerslide in order for the controls to be effective. That I could get used to, if it were consistent, but it wasn't. Once I adopted that controller pattern, things didn't get better and instead got even quirkier. My character would now make the jump, but it would also backslide off of the platform I'd just reached only to fall onto spikes below and die. Between the "slippery" platform surfaces and inconsistent controls, the game became devoid of all enjoyment for me at this point.

Other noticeable issues that could have been overlooked from a player's perspective were the poor grammar and sentence structure in the dialogue boxes and the stark contrast between the characters on the screen and the charaacter faces in the dialogue box. This seemed like a "rookie" mistake and was a distraction for me.

The soundtrack was average, not exceptional, but the graphics were much better than average. I think with some effort into gameplay mechanics, the developer could have a winner here. When those updates are made, I'd be glad to give the game another try.

Leo's Fortune is one of my absolute favorite platformers. I had the pleasure of playing this game on the Amazon Fire Android TV with a wireless controller and fell in love with it instantly. Now, that I've duplicated a lot of my gaming collection on Steam, I'm getting to experience games like this one on a different platform. I played the game from beginning to end this evening and enjoyed it just as much as I did the first time, if not moreso.

The scenery, graphics, and level design are really terrific, and the controls are very responsive. The concept behind the game is relatively simple, as a blue ball of fluff named Leo goes on a mission to retrieve his gold. This game is much more platformer and coin collector than puzzle-platformer, and that's precisely why I like it so much.

A well-made platformer is so very rare these days, and those that are well-done are more often than not complex puzzle-platformers or purposely made to be very difficult. Leo's Fortune is not one of those games. This is a game that can be played casually without having to think too terribly much, and as much as I enjoy a cerebral game, there are times when I just want to play a straightforward platformer. This game is exactly that. It can be completed in one sitting, but it also includes challenging yet attainable achievements and hidden collectibles that will appeal to achievement hunters, and 100% completionists.

This is a game for young gamers as much as it is for seasoned gamers. There's nothing that I wouldn't want my children to see, and it's great for gamers who have short attention spans or are prone to rage, because each of the 20 levels is short and a great stopping point. Furthermore, while there are achievements associated with "no game deaths," it's possible to complete the game without needing to be such a precise gamer. You can "die" as often as necessary and simply pick back up near where you left off.

There's replayability here, too, as completing the game will unlock a hardcore mode, and there are 4 additional secret levels within the game to unlock, as well. It's also a safe bet that a second playthrough will be necessary for those who are achievement hunters or completionists.

There's really something for everyone here, but most specifically, I recommend Leo's Fortune very highly for those seeking their first 100% game and anyone looking for a platformer with just enough puzzle-solving to be fun and not so much that it feels like, "Work."

Hero Defense - Haunted Island is the tower defense game for gamers who aren't fans of tower defense games. I'm one such gamer, and that's precisely why my positive experience packs such a wicked punch.

Coming into the game, you're hit with striking characters and a fantastical world where supernatural creatures exist, and hunters are waiting in the wings to defeat them.

Using strictly mouse gameplay, you'll start off with Jack the ranger. Through gameplay progression, you quickly learn that by defeating a wave of creatures on a given map, you earn gold and skillpoints that can be used to upgrade Jake's weapon and upgrade or add skills to the character to make him a more deadly opponent. You can also rebuild the "town" by placing various building on the map that allow you to upgrade characters and weapons, and later to exchange gold coins for gems that are used for further upgrades.

During gameplay, defeated monsters drop gold and items, such as runes that are used to advance your character, and orbs that are used to "charge" your character, granting one of many short-term advantages or "buffs." You'll also find during the process of completing waves and upgrading Jake that other characters become unlocked and available for placement on the maps. Furthermore, you'll be able to build shrines on certain maps that grant buffs, and ven placement of one character next to another can provide an advantage.

All of the characters will advance in the same way as Jake, though they all have different skills. Barrows, the occultist, is stronger against certain opponents, and Sam Hain, the firebug, is stronger against others. The same can be said for the rest of the crew.

There's a great deal of replayability here, as each map can be repeated more than once at a higher difficulty level, and beyond that, extra challenges can be added to the maps that place your crew at a disadvantage of sorts and result in higher rewards for you. There's a lot of room for game customization here, too. No two games are likely to be the same when you factor in all the different characters, map placements, shrines, and rune combinations.

It's classified as Early Access, but I have to say that this game plays like a finished product. Graphics are exquisitely clear, and the soundtrack enhances this supernatural environment. I felt like I was playing in an interactive urban fantasy. The developers seem to be not only talented but active, so I'm looking forward to more content in the future.

This game is very well done, and it can be played both in long sessions or short intervals. The instant gratification factor is definitely present, as well. Frequent loot drops and upgrades make for a beautiful give and take experience. This is certainly not a "grinder." You'll also find trading cards and challenging achievements to keep you entertained.

I favor controller gameplay, and as I stated earlier, I'm not particularly a fan of tower defense games, so I would encourage any other gamers meeting those criteria to give this game a try. If you hop on board the Haunted Island tour during the Easter event, you'll find a lot more goodies waiting for you!
