- Are the weapons viable?
The "Wolfclaw" Machete and "Alpha" Assault Rifle are definitely worth trying. (The "Alpha" Assault rifle adds 10 bullets ontop of the standard 20 in your Magazine)
- Do they add anything unique to the game? (Eg. new mechanics or buffs)
Nope
- What do I think of the outfit?
Amazing, I especially love the colours and camo pattern on the legs.
- Do they add anything unique to the game? (Passive buffs)
Unfortuntely not!
- Overall rating: 4/10
Great outfit skin and the Rifle is especially useful for early game players, but the rest of the Content just falls short compared to other Bundles.

A Great Puzzle Platformer and a worthy successor to Trine 2 that Trine 3 completely failed to deliver.
Play this with friends and be in awe of the excellent level design, music themes, style and Fantasy color palette.
I highly recommend this Coop Game on sale and played with at least 1 other person.
It also has a story DLC for even more content: https://sp.zhabite.com/steamstore/app/1444560/Trine_4_Melody_of_Mystery/

Pro’s:
  • Fantastic Music and Settings. The Graphical style fits very well with the environments that you visit during the game. It feels like diving into a Childrens fantasy book and its wonderful.
  • Far more abilities than in Trine 2 or 3. Amadeus is far more viable in combat situations now, Zoya’s Grapple rope has been overhauled with mechanics and Pontius can just decimate combat sections with his new Shield powers!
  • Missed xp or a collectible near the end of a level and dont want to replay the entire level again? No problem! You can simply pick which checkpoint of the level you want to play from. The game even tells you how much xp you have obtained per checkpoint so you can easily see which areas you missed. (Trine 3 also had this feature but it feels much more polished here)
  • Boss Battles are unique and dont feel as repetitive as in Trine 2. Many of your abilities will be required to solve puzzles before or during the fight itself! This adds pressure onto players and I quite like it.
  • Many collectibles to find during the game. You have xp to pick up as usual, but also Knick Knacks, Letters and even 5 Keys that open up a secret room in the main menu!
  • The game took me about 15 Hours to complete with 2 other friends. We didnt rush and collected everything we could find. I feel like if you dont care about collecting things (Which imo you really should) then the game might take around 10 - 12 hours.
  • the Dynamic between the 3 characters felt really well done in this game and gives the player(s) a good impression of what each character is like. Pontius = Jolly Pie Eating Gentle Giant, Zoya = Treasure Hunting Sly Rogue, Amadeus = Wimpy but intelligent wannabe Grand Wizard. The Banter between the 3 in the background always makes me chuckle as I am playing.
  • Excellent Puzzles that feel very unique and test you to use every single ability the game offers. Some areas seem to require a single (intended) solution which I didnt really like, however playing with 2 others and figuring out a (Risky more often than not) solution over to that bridge or across the Toxic Sludge was always a highlight for me. Openly sharing Ideas and suggesting which character’s ability to use was the best way through the tougher puzzles I found!
  • The Ending to the story felt satisfying and didnt end terribly like Trine 3. Honestly the less said about that “game”, the better!
  • Joining or hosting games in Online Multiplayer was very polished and While hosting the many sessions for my friends and I, I never encountered any issues or confusing UI menus. The entire game’s menus, UIs, Mechanics, Hints and Direction felt much more coherent and polished. Which is yet another thing that Trine 3…Ok I’d better stop before I get angry..
Con’s:
  • The Final Boss Battle is a massive spike in difficulty and you will die many times before his attack patterns become clear. I have no problem with hard bosses. But attacks that are tricky to read and dodge make the fight much harder than I felt it needed to be. The other boss battles throughout the game were very different and make you rely on different abilities, which I liked as it reminds players of the many different mechanics and attacks at their disposal!
  • The combat in this game is great, HOWEVER the areas in which the combat occurs in, is garbage. You basically advance until a purple wall stops you, then it envelops you and finally, you will be locked inside this multiplatform area with different enemies (With never any game hints to tell you anything about them) spawning everywhere. The close proximity combined with the constant barrage of particle effects make the encounters feel very artificial and “arcadey.” In previous games, the enemies were just encountered naturally throughout the level as you would expect but now you are forced into this box until you have killed them all. It was a very strange decision to include these “combat sections” in my opinion.
  • The story in Trine games is never front and centre. But I felt that more effort to make a coherent universe and storyline was put into this game. Unfortunately for me it falls flat. None of the supporting characters get much explanation as to who they are, what their purpose is or even why they are there in the first place. The only character that gets any sort of Arc is Selius, however he doesnt do much until the end of the game (Which I obviously wont spoil). I feel like if more attention was put into the dialogue during the beginning and end of levels rather than written in collectibles, the world building would be of better quality. (Also would have been lovely to see Amadeus’ Kids!)
  • The puzzles in the last few levels felt a lot more restricted in terms of puzzle solution freedom if that makes sense. With all the abilities you had gained over the course of the game, youd think this would be the opposite but that didnt seem to be the case for my friends and I.
  • The "Secret unlockable" room that you unlock in the main menu area (a small playable hall that you can explore before going into the play menus) after obtaining 14 collectibles is a total let down. What do you get for going through the trouble of finding 14 Knick Knacks? A Small room with a sleeping doggo and a small Trine 3 reference. (DONT GET ME STARTED ON TRINE 3!)
Why tf would I want to be ripped off for my efforts AND reminded of that stain on the franchise??

Overall Rating: 8/10
A Fantastic and gritty survival game that it made much better by playing with at least 2 others.
Highlights of the game for me were the following:
- Defending our base from Cannibal Raids during a full moon
- Reading through all of the strange lore with my coop partners
- Hunting Animals at night time with a compound Bow
- Creating Traps out of Leaves, Wood and rope and setting them for animals and enemies alike.
- Chainsawing trees that subsequently fall on our base and cause arguments.
- Slowly dying of starvation while my hunting partner munches blueberries right in front of me, causing more arguments.

Pro’s:
  • Tense Cave exploration with very sound effects and ambience.
  • Great Crafting system that I havent seen before in a survival game.
  • Coop support! UP TO 8 PLAYERS!!
  • Amazing base building mechanics. Very polished mechanic, however there simply isnt enough unique buildings!
  • enemy patrols roam around the map randomly and keep you on your toes. as the ingame time ticks on, harder and scarier enemies start showing up, some of them are even mutated..
  • hunting mechanic is very polished and rewarding. All Pelts have a usage and the stealth system is basic but works well.
  • Many collectibles to uncover the strange lore of the game. While spelunking you will find weapons, tools, notes, cassete tapes and strangely even parts of a kid's toy.
  • No mini-map, xray vision, Micro-Transactions, crosshair, obnoxious tutorials or braindead enemy ai.
  • Storage capacity is more believable than most survival games and you have to craft new bags, sacks and quivers in order to store more item types. Creating all of these upgrades is very satisfying and helps a lot when farming items or shooting arrows/bolts at enemies. You will be able to farm resources for longer and its a great help!
  • Defending your base from night time enemy patrols is terrifying and exhilarating at the same time. Slashing at cannibals while you hear your base walls around you getting pummeled is intense!
  • Great map (The world is known as the "Peninsula") with Snow to the North, beaches to the south and a large forest in the middle (Obviously). Exploring above ground during the day time is not only safer than nightime/caving, but also shows off many unique environments such as Cannibal Camps, Plane Crash Sites, Cave entrances, Lakes, Creeks and even a giant gaping Chasm in the centre of the map!
Con’s:
  • I found the story to be very strange and disjointed. You basically progress the story by collecting items and eventually entering an endgame area with a keycard. However the rate and order in which players discover quest items and complete objectives is very subjective and affects the overall pacing of the story. You might enter a cave and find end game quest items and have no idea what they are for rather than finding it at the "correct" time. Hopefully that makes sense
  • The final boss is OP and ridiculous. Its attacks have such a wide radius that its very hard to dodge and even harder to get in close to slash at them. I found myself just spamming bombs and molotovs which didnt make for an intense fight.
  • Cannibal AI is wildy inconsistent. Some groups will attack on sight, others will be wary and keep their distance, like others will simply avoid the player. Im not sure what this is supposed to teach the player in terms of learning about the cannibal's behaviour as you can never predict what they will do. If this is an intended feature, then I hate it.
  • repairing damaged buildings is very clunky and often wont register. Ive had to get a friend to repair a wall for me as I simply couldnt see the repair Icon
  • Some weapons are terrible for the effort needed to obtain them. For example the Flintlock pistol requires you to visit 6 Dig sites across the entire map and recover a piece of the gun. When you finally obtain all the parts and create the gun, it is garbage! The damage is terrible for the fire rate and ammo is very scarce as you are unable to craft it. Another example is the Crossbow.
  • No fishing mechanic yet you can create fish traps. Would have loved to see a fishing minigame here!
  • No option to drop specific arrow types.
  • No way to fight Sharks while underwater. Why not?
  • The "Vegan" and "Pacifist" achievement both require playstyles that most players will not enjoy. Vegan requires you to not eat or kill animals for the entire length of the game. Imo, unless you are a vegan irl (Lol), this is silly as Meat is the best kind of food in the game hands down. The achievement itself doesnt make players play in a way that is fresh, exciting or satisfying. Not a fan of random handicaps.
The Pacifist Achievement requires you to avoid killing cannibals for more than 10 days in a row. This is an incredibly stupid achievement as cannibals will sometimes show up at night in parties of 3 to 7 and ATTACK YOUR BASE. How tf am I supposed to defend myself from them destroying my hard work when I cant kill them? I understand why this achievement was implemented into the game, but it is very impractical once you reach a few caves that are FILLED with cannibals or need to defend your base.
  • Caves are very dark, extremely dark in some places. I get that its supposed to be tense and atmospheric when you are exploring caves but honestly, many times it was more frustrating than atmospheric when I was exploring caves. The light that your default lighter gives off is garbage which is understandable, however, once you obtain the battery torch, the light beam that it shines is so small and focused that it really slows down the rate at which you can perceive the environment around you. When I am being attacked by mutants and/ or cannibals balls deep in a cave, I want to SEE WHERE THEY F*CKING ARE. There really should have been a lantern or Torch upgrade because as it stands, navigation and combat while inside caves is often times rage inducing. At times, following a coop partner's white lit name was a better navigation guide than the paper cave map itself!

HITMAN 3 - HITMAN 2 EXPANSION PASS Review

TLDR: Buy this ON SALE in the HITMAN World of Assassination Deluxe Pack to maximise the value of content on offer.

Q: What on earth is this content and what exactly does it bring to Hitman 3?
A: This Paid DLC provides Hitman 3 players with the following content:
- 2 Story Maps (Haven Island and New York)
- 2 Sniper Mode Maps (Hantu Port and Siberia)
- Special Assignments Pack 1 and 2 (Basically 4 very sub par side missions that take place in Santa Fortuna, Mumbai, Miami and Whittleton Creek Respectively.)
- 3 Cosmetic Packs (3 Suits, 2 Briefcases, 5 Items and 1 Pistol.)

Q: So is it worth it at full price?
A1) Well, the largest parts of this DLC are the 2 Story maps as they not only provide new places to explore but also new Escalations, contracts, Items, Suits and Weapons. These alone can keep players busy for around 20+ hours.
A handful of items/weapons unlocked from New York and Haven Island are actually VERY good and I regularly bring a handful of them (No spoilers) with me when playing in general!
Unfortuntely, the rest of the DLC is far from the level of polish and quality compared to the aforementioned maps.

A2) The Snipers maps are pretty good, however for some reason you cannot play them in COOP anymore. (You can play any of the 3 Sniper maps with one other player in Hitman 2, even still!) Why they removed this feature I have no idea.
The best Sniper map is Himmelstein, which ironically enough, isnt even a part of this DLC!

A3) The 4 Special Assignments are terrible when compared with the bonus missions from Hitman 1 such as Landslide and a house built on sand. They just feel low effort and without many creative options to kill your targets. They dont even include mission stories, unlocks or new areas of the maps they take place in. Very disapointing imo.

A4) The cosmetic DLC is basically pointless unless you like the suits, as you will likely never use the Items it offers. Almost all of the items are either reskins or completely useless. (Useless in the context of playing for a silent assassin rating). I equip the "Smart Casual Suit" every so often depending on the map but that is the only part of the THREE cosmetic packs that I have used so far..

In conclusion. Buying this at full price is NOT good idea. HOWEVER, you can purchase this on sale along with 2 other DLC's in the HITMAN World of Assassination Deluxe Pack for a pretty decent price (Link in the beginning of the review). Only purchase that if you know that you will play the 2 story maps I mentioned before as you will not get your money's worth otherwise. Sniper mode is great and I do enjoy it, but it is very different to traditional Hitman 3 gameplay. I'd still recommend checking it out, however note that there are only 3 sniper maps in the game, there is no coop support and the maps do not have as much replayability compared with the 6 Main Hitman 3 Missions.

HITMAN 3 - DELUXE PACK Review

Lets just be brutally honest and analyze the content on offer here, then you can make your own decision if it is worth purchasing. Though IMO it is definetely NOT worth full price.

- Deluxe Escalation Contracts
You get 6 "Unique" Escalations and tbh they arent anything game changing. The rewards for them are pretty cool but overall I never was interested in Escalations in the first place. I prefer new maps over missions as these feel like a blank canvas for future content. However, (Escalations in general) provide an added challenge for players that have completed the 6 maps in Hitman 3's Story as they test your knowledge of the environment and especially traversal.
But it doesn't really do it for me as the "Main" part of this DLC.

- Deluxe Suits and Items
Its very important to note that you will ONLY be able to get the suits and items mentioned here by COMPLETING the aforementioned escalations. Don't get me wrong, the unlockables on offer here look amazing and a few of the items are actually Viable to use in Silent assassin runs. However locking them behind content that you already paid for feels a tad sneaky to me.

- Digital Soundtrack
This is obviously the best part of the pack imo. The soundtrack for ALL THREE Hitman WOA games is included here and just wow, the orchestral range and dramatic themes are just on another level. Easily on par with jesper kyd from the older Hitman games. I listen to the soundtrack even when im not playing. Its simply that good.

- Digital “World of HITMAN” Book
This is a cool PDF that gives you loads of lore about the characters, their motives and the exotic locations.
Very well formatted and with gorgeous images, I definitely recommend giving this one a read if you already own the Deluxe pack.

- Director Commentary (Mission Introduction)
A great Idea that serves to give you a big look behind the curtain so to speak when it comes to the developer's methods for creating missions, lore and mechanics. Its almost surreal to be able to hear the commentary for the mission while playing the mission itself. The only real downside to this feature is that once you have heard it once, you will never listen to it again.
Still a really nice and unique feature that other games should definitely include!

Overall I reckon that this Paid DLC for the game doesnt really do enough to justify its full price. I would say however, that during a sale the price is more appropriate to the actual game content on offer here. My main concern with this DLC is that it only contains 2 features that provide more ingame content for the game itself. The rest of it is just bonus material for die hard fans such as myself.
Still a LOT better than the Seven Deadly Sins DLC though...

After playing through this game with my mates, I’ve found this game to be a massive disappointment. I am not quite sure why it was never complete, it shows and its a real shame. I had some definite enjoyable moments with friends while playing this, but the fun we had was nowhere close to playing Trine 1 and 2.
This game just feels so out of place compared to the previous games in the franchise. Maybe If it were finished and the mechanics were more fleshed out, then it could have been a worthy addition to the franchise. Unfortunately, the game that we have is nothing like that…

Pro’s:
  • The soundtrack is good as always.
  • The "Chronicles of the guardian" chapter has a fantastic "storybook" artstyle.
  • Using the grapple hook to reel in physics objects is a good addition and makes Zoya slightly less terrible as a character option.
  • Amadeus can now move while also holding objects and can use blocks to slam enemies. Unfortunately this is where this usefulness in combat ends.
  • Graphics are decent for the game. The lighting and scenery really adds to levels, one thing that the Trine franchise does exceptionally well is surrounding you in many varied and colorful fantasy environments.
  • When replaying levels back to collect Trineangles, you can now choose which checkpoint/puzzle to start from and the game will also tell you which section of the level you are missing Trineangles. (This saves a lot of time compared to replaying levels in Trine 1 & 2.)
Con’s:
  • Coop is very buggy, especially when you are not the host.
  • 3D perspective is a pain in the ass as you can not judge distance very well and often just find yourself running clean off the edge of the map. I'm not sure why they didn't just keep the 2.5D perspective from Trine 1 and 2 as there was nothing wrong with it.
  • All 3 Characters are missing many of their iconic skills/ abilities from Trine 2. This makes no sense to me as I expected Trine 3 to build upon the mechanics of the game before it. Many of these removals include:
Pontius no longer has a hammer and gravity shield
Zoya no longer has frost, low gravity or fire arrows or even invisibility.
Amadeus can no longer levitate or imprison enemies, also no planks and he can only summon ONE Box at once.
Why on earth were these amazing abilities removed!? It really feels like taking a step backwards when you are so limited in combat encounters.
  • the game itself is UNFINISHED.
  • The “Final” Boss battle is absolutely terrible and the only character that can actually damage the boss itself is Amadeus. The other 2 Characters serve NO purpose apart from drawing its attention.
  • The game has 8 Main chapters and 10 Bonus chapters which serve as short challenges to complete that reward you with "Trineangles". 8 Main chapters is obviously not enough and the final level is just abysmal, especially while playing it in single player.
  • The Bonus Levels are average for the most part but they all suffer from the same issue, they are all FAR too short. You can complete some of them in under 30 seconds. This is great for collecting Trineangles but for actual gameplay value, it is terrible.
  • Achievements are bland and don't ask you to do anything special. This might not be an issue for most people but for someone like me who loved all the challenging achievements in Trine 1 and 2, It feels so lazy and generic. By simply just playing every level and getting all the Trineangles will get you 100% achievements! No imagination here.

Difficulty
☑ Game Journalist friendly (Some of the timed QTE sections may be a bit quick for some people but honestly its just timed button presses. The only requirement to be any good at this game is purely fast reflexes.)

Overall Rating: 7/10
A stunning story that tests and surprises players, let down by braindead controls and generic side characters. This is an iconic Playstation 3 game, but the only things it has going for it are the plot and the music. Everything else seems to get in the way.
Its worth mentioning also that if you are a switched on player, you can work out who the Origami Killer is many chapters BEFORE the game reveals it. This may be satisfying to solve early, but it really serves to showcase the weaker parts of the story and how the quantity and general pacing of "clues" was a bit generous.
Pro’s:
  • Story will suck in anyone who likes a Crime Novel or Thriller Film. The Origami Killer reveal (Game’s Antagonist) near the end of the game was well paced and satisfying, however the only issue is that if you pay attention during key story moments, you can work out who the killer is faar earlier! I will admit that my educated guess being proven right was very satisfying regardless. The culmination of all 4 playable characters coming together at the end was excellent and felt like the action packed ending to a hollywood blockbuster.
  • Almost every character has a good backstory, motive(s), attitude and arc. The weakest character for me was Madison as you barely find out much about her compared to the other 3 Protagonists.
  • The 5 Trials that Ethan must complete in order to save his son are very intense and challenge the player with not only tough gameplay, but also deeper moral choices. This game has some very tough choices and really holds you accountable!
  • Every character can die permanently, if you are an idiot and miss too many QTEs in a certain combat situation, you will die without the chance of revival. Even during the last big mission, 3 of the 4 Protagonists can die! I love how the game holds player’s accountable for their actions and more importantly, their inactions..
  • The Orchestral Soundtrack by Normand Corbeil is simply breathtaking. The emotional highs and lows add to so many parts of the game. Stressful parts of the game are made three times more intense as the music picks up and rushes you forward. I highly recommend listening to the soundtrack of this game to get an idea of the Tone. The composer did an excellent job here.

Con’s:
  • At times, the controls are absolutely ABYSMAL. Some sections of the game were impossible at my current difficulty. I had to turn it down just to complete a combination of button prompts as the game would simply keep rejecting my inputs despite making no errors. Though this didn't happen often, it was extremely frustrating.
  • The “puzzles” that are in the game are a joke. Almost every single puzzle is just laughably easy and often the character will magically internally monologue about the puzzle, giving you blatant hints like "Hmm, Maybe I should go over there and do X". I liked the fast paced QTE sequences during the game, but the slow puzzle sections were all just too easy and forgiving. The amount of help that the game gives you is just absurd.
  • So many chapters in this game are too long or just outright unnecessary. I absolutely hated the following 4 chapters as I felt that they didn't advance the plot or add anything of value to the story:
    1) The first chapter with Madison: Sleepless Night
-Does NOTHING for the story and is a very strange introduction to Madison.
    2) The very first chapter in the game.
-Incredibly slow paced and just serves as a terrible tutorial to the game itself.
    3) Covered Market Chapter: The Fish market chase scene with Norman and Korda
    - While the QTE chase was intense, plotwise this does not further Norman's role in the story and felt like a generic Cop chase scene that the game wanted to tick off.
    4) The Doc Chapter with Madison
    - A strange chapter that felt badly paced, unnecessary and the action just comes out of nowhere...

  • There are a total of 52 CHAPTERS in the game. To be honest, 52 feels like 10 too many. A lot of fat could have been trimmed from the story chapters. There are so many situations where you are doing nothing important like: Cooking scrambled eggs, putting on makeup, cleaning your face, drinking, eating, playing Piano and generally just pointless filler like house chores.
  • Carter Blake is a terrible side character that is an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to Norman for no apparent reason, does not help to advance the overall plot and even leeches off of Norman’s hard work. I'm really not sure why he is in the game, apart from the obvious extra challenge that his actions provide Norman with.

One of the BEST old school shooters I've ever played. I can easily compare it with titles such as Doom (Classic), Duke Nukem, Dusk and Ion Fury. The gunplay is easy to learn but hard to master. With many different firing modes (Such as a Zoom scope, sticky bombs, quad shotgun shot, remote detonation rockets and Akimbo SMGs) The guns themselves feel very powerful and blasting visible chunks off of the 2D (or 3D) bloody demon sprites will NEVER get old.
It's also worth mentioning that you can play the entire campaign with online coop!
The game is not perfect however, and has some weird gameplay mechanic choices that you wouldn't expect from an old school - style shooter. Read on for the Pros and Cons:

Pro’s:
  • Gun variety is just breathtaking, you will have access to various shotguns, rifles, pistols, energy rifles, rocket launchers and even weapons that use chaotic energy as ammunition. (So metal!)
  • Soundtrack is by the man the myth the legend himself, Andrew Hulshult. Same composer for the Ancient gods, DUSK, AMID EVIL and Quake Champions! The tracks are so kickass during combat and really help to boost your drive and sheer will to survive during tense combat situations! Even the ambient themes give off dark industrial or demonic vibes.
  • The squishing, whirring and blasting SFX create such a magnificent gory soundscape to accompany the raw power of your guns. The Gibs and blood effects are probably the BEST I have seen in a boomer Shooter thus far!
  • Boss encounters are tough as nails and the overall enemy variety maay be a bit lacking, but what it does have are tough enemies that REALLY shake up the combat encounters. Towards the middle of the game you will encounter very tough “Prodeus units” that have more health, move faster, shoot faster projectiles and some of them will even shoot HOMING projectiles.
  • Most secrets are hidden well and dont require crazy puzzle solving to find. Almost all the secrets in the game can be discovered by finding a hidden switch, blowing up a wall, looking under stairs, under a lift, on top of a platform or often just by locating and then shooting a hidden white cross that unlocks a locked door. The hardest thing you will have to do here is become proficient with movement. (Using dash along with double jump to reach high up places)
  • There are 32 levels. The game does seem to drag on a bit towards the end but there are some amazing levels during the game. My favourites were Memoriam, Meltdown, Marksman, Atonement, Descent, Space station, Frost, Gate to Chaos and all of the Weapon Trial levels.
The best levels in my opinion have wide open spaces and enough cover to reload all your guns.
  • COOP CAMPAIGN!
  • CUSTOM MAPS!
  • The Shop area lets you buy new weapons, abilities and even ammo for your weapons. You obtain the currency for this shop by finding “Ore” throughout the levels of the game. You can them come to the shop and spend it on amazing upgrades and unique guns to make the later parts of the game slightly easier. (Only slightly)
  • Loads of options for graphics, controls, sound and HUD. I was impressed at how many settings there are!
  • All the achievements in this game are pretty straightforward, the only achievements that will require you to grind are the 100% all levels and kill 10,000 enemies. These shouldn't have been added in my opinion as there is no reward for finding all secrets apart from the mentioned achievement. The Devs really should have added gun skins or even a few Gameplay modifiers for dedicated players!
Con’s:
  • The game has a reloading animation for every single gun and there are a LOT of guns in this game. So during many combat encounters. Often you will keep switching to different guns until you have to start the slow slog of reloading everything. Im not quite sure why they added reloading into a boomer shooter because it doesnt do anything positive for the game in my view. It only serves to slow down the combat and punish players for using a gun that they enjoy.
  • The checkpoint system is complete and utter garbage. You could kill all enemies in a room except one or two and then respawn at the nearest checkpoint only to find that all the enemies that you just killed did NOT respawn with you. This completely takes away player satisfaction as you can just keep dying and suffer no penalty for death. The only real penalty for death in this game is less points in the end screen. I want to beat a combat encounter from start to finish! Let me learn the hard way, I want the challenge dammit!
  • Once you obtain certain guns in the campaign, it renders other guns almost useless, the default shotgun, pistol and even the chaingun will barely be used once you obtain better versions of them during the story or purchased in the shop. While this isnt a huge issue as there are many, many guns. I feel like upgrading the base guns would have increased their popularity a bit. This is no criticism of the guns themselves however, as every gun serves a purpose…some just serve it much better than others!
  • The Slayer, Harbinger and Phantom Enemy types all have homing projectile attacks. There is nothing wrong with this apart from the few encounters where the game spawns more than one of these enemies at a time. It is fine to dodge one volley of projectiles, but two or three at the same time is pure madness. It serves to divert your concentration away from shooting and more towards spamming dash to dodge the onslaught. Enemies will NOT become less accurate while you are moving so sometimes it feels like dodging the projectiles has very little effect!
  • No Doom, quake or Duke Nukem homage/Easter egg? Disappointing. Not a big deal but it'd have been nice to see a reference to, well, something!
  • The story is uh, it's um. To be honest I have barely any idea what the story is. The game does try to explain the lore with “logs” that can be found during levels, but It simply wasn't enough meat to entice me. I was always more interested in mowing down enemies in increasingly epic environments and situations in scale.
(Old school shooters traditionally don't have well fleshed out stories so this isn't a big deal.)
  • Generic achievements
  • Flying Suicide enemies have to be my personal least favourite enemy type in the "Boomer-Shooter" Genre. Combat encounters that spawn in 4+ of the b*stards to rush at the player suck. In my opinion, it really doesn't challenge the player in any meaningful way.

Overall Rating: 9/10
One of the greatest platformers I have ever played. Playing the game through in cooperative (3 players instead of 2 preferably) increases the overall experience and lets each player master one of the three characters.
There are some glaring issues with some gameplay mechanics and some stupid features which make very little sense.
Though overall, it is a drastic upgrade from Trine 1 and provides far more content. The goblin menace expansion alone takes around 3 hours to complete if looking for xp. The puzzles are for the most part fairly challenging and the combat is, well, less dumbed down than Trine 2 as each character has a unique ability to help them in combat, even Amadeus!

Pro’s:
  • A total of 19 Levels and 1 Bonus levels to keep you busy for hours on end.
Environments change a lot during the game and you never feel like you are playing the same level over and over. You will visit castles, crypts, forests, caverns, strongholds, deserts, ruins and even the inside of a giant carnivore!
  • The removal of the inventory system from Trine 1 and the expansion of the skill tree system is just excellent. You no longer have to worry about managing Mana as it recharges automatically and only gets used for specific abilities.
  • Speaking of abilities, the new additions for each character are so creative and can make many puzzles and combat encounters a breeze!
    - The Knight , Pontius can now throw his massive Hammer and glide/ "kitesail"using his shield (How that works makes zero sense but its still a fun mechanic).
    - The Thief, Zoya can shoot 3 different kinds of arrows: Explosive for blowing up walls and doing area damage to enemies, Frost for freezing enemies in their tracks and creating temporary ice rafts to jump onto and my personal favourite, Low gravity field. This arrow creates a large blue transparent field where gravity slows down inside and item movement changes. You can slow down shutting doors, block water flow, slow down enemies or even utilise floating platforms for traversal.
    - The wizard, Amadeus still cant fight directly unfortunately, but he can “trap” enemies inside of a cage and move them around, often over a cliff or into fireballs. While this isnt a great way to tackle combat scenarios in single player, its an excellent support ability while playing in Coop as it means there are less enemies to worry about!
The devs did a great job in creating diverse abilities for each character and you will learn to love them as you play. I find myself switching back and forth during single player much more often than I did during Trine 1.
  • More Boss battles and more enemy variation! Even though the boss battles are still quite simple, they are much more tolerable. Especially when all 3 players are pummeling the boss with maxed out abilities!
  • The soundtrack is absolutely AMAZING for this game. The fantasy orchestral theme during the main menu and the boss battle themes in particular are just fantastic. The composer really killed it here!
  • Loads of achievements for dedicated players (Like my friends and I). Most of them are pretty generic but there are a few creative ones that will test your reflexes, combat prowess and attention to detail. I love random achievements that force players to play differently as it makes them learn new things about the game itself.
  • The ending of the base game and goblin menace expansion wrap up the story of Trine 2 very nicely. It felt very satisfying watching through credits roll!
Con’s:
  • You cant skip the cutscenes during Multiplayer, why not??
  • All the bosses in the game have attacks that can kill in ONE hit, this would be fine if their wind up was slow but it aint! It may be intense to be stuck in a corner and blocking your shield as Pontius, but alas you will be squished before long! Also frost arrows dont freeze or even slow down bosses. Why not?
  • The puzzles during the later half of the Goblin menace expansion really, really ramp up in difficulty. I found myself and my friends dying over and over while we understood how to traverse the platforms and hazards. We often just used our OP abilities that we all had obtained by then to just cheese through it as we ran out of patience. This always feels a bit cheap but the puzzles require either a guide or everyone to combine their brainpower 100% of the time. Knowing my friends, this was impossible…
  • Playing in hard mode and hardcore is a great challenge, however there is one MASSIVE problem with it.
If a critical character dies before you have solved a puzzle, you are STUCK until you either restart the level or just end up exploiting the game. This is so frustrating especially during single player as you wont know anything is wrong until you see that the only way across that gap is moving that box as Amadeus or blowing up that wall as Zoya. Most of the puzzles in the early levels can be done with just one character but once you get into the harder puzzles, you will often need multiple characters to perform unique actions!
  • Teleporting slower players that are lagging behind the lead player sounds good on paper, but many times I have accidentally entered a cutscene or boss battle without knowing and the game will teleport everyone else to my position regardless of what they were doing! My friends and I have missed many XP bottles this way unfortunately.
  • No way to light up dark spaces. Amadeus should really have learnt a torch spell by now!
  • Story isnt really mentioned enough to make players understand or care about it. There were a few cutscenes but honestly I was always more interested in the traversing the ruins rather than wondering why we were in the ruins in the first place. The final level of the base game is excellent though and wraps up the game perfectly…Untill the Globin menace that is!
  • Camera movement can be a bit weird and doesnt always move with your character. This can make for some bad visibility or even missed jumps!

A fantastic coop fantasy platformer with very easy combat, mostly straightforward puzzles and satisfyingly challenging traversal. I highly recommend that you play this with 2 other friends to get the "intended" experience as I did.
Pro’s:
  • Amazing puzzle experience. you wont ever get stuck as most of the puzzles are just physics based and they really only require you to move something, traverse some platforms, pull a lever or destroy a wall. You wont be looking up walkthroughs!
  • The level variation is simply wonderful, you journey through forests, dungeons, libraries, castles, forges, ruins, sewers and catacombs during this game. (No spoilers). The colours and music vary to match the environment. I really enjoyed this aspect of the game. I hate repetition!
  • The 3 playable characters have unique roles and while you can complete most of the levels as one of the three characters, the game works best when you utilise the abilities and advantages of all three.
    1) Amadeus the "Wizard" can create objects to help himself and others traverse the level, his combat potential is severly limited however. While he can crush enemies with boxes, moving any items renders him vulnerable to any damage. (He does not move)
    2) Zoya the Agile Thief has a grapple hook for swinging and a Bow and arrows so she can help others from afar. Because of her Grapple hook, she can also traverse hard to reach areas with ease.
    3) Pontius the Big Jolly Knight is the go to for close quarters melee combat. mashing the attack button and facing the general direction of enemies can pretty much eliminate all enemy types in the game. He is not nearly as agile as Zoya, but carries a shield to block projectiles like fireballs and arrows. He is great for leading the way, especially into potential danger!
  • Collectible placement is always within view and the later levels require more and more effort in reaching them.
  • Great xp and skill system which, while very simple, can give each of the 3 characters very powerful upgrades. Especially for Pontius/ Knight. He can completely demolish a room full of enemies once you max him out.
  • Steam workshop support!
  • 15 Levels plus 1 Bonus level (Very tough) give you and friends around 6 to 12 hours of gameplay.
(Varies depending on Skill levels, Collectibles, Achievement hunting and your friend's inherent lack of intelligence...)
Con’s:
  • The intended solution to many of the game's puzzles are not always clear. often end up improvising with my coop mates.
  • Wizard is garbage in combat, would have expected a defensive spell like a temporary shield while moving items. Without the other characters he is completely hopeless in combat.
  • The "Boss battles" along with basic enemy types suck and are not unique. The only enemy types are skeletons with different weapons and a few spider creatures dotted around levels.
  • Music tracks for each level are too short and loop too often!
  • Some levels are far too dark to see where to navigate to. A torch item would have been a great addition here!
  • Going too far ahead in a level will force your coop partners to be teleported to your approximate position. This is a great idea on paper, but what ends up happening is that they will teleport to an edge, they will be most likely be moving too so this will send them into the abyss with not enough time to react. This teleport feature should not be forced and instead the game should ask the players if they want to "catch up" via the Teleportation skip.
  • Combat is a bit too dumbed down, I can kill 90% of the enemies in this game by spamming attacks as the knight.
  • Items that you acquire from chests give buffs to specific characters, however I'd say that 80% of these items felt useless as they only granted 10% more health or mana. I would have liked to see more creative and powerful items/ treasure.
  • Tower of motherf*cking Sarek. The hardest level in the game. Poorly designed and stress inducing, this level is a very poor way to end the story of the game! Not even a boss battle!
