I find Black Mesa to be extraordinarily acceptable in being a remake to Half Life, it revitalizes the gameplay to make it more enjoyable to an audience how likes to run and gun (without making it completely braindead).
The game is so streamlined that it is hard to get frustrated and turn it off whenever you can't find where to go.

In other words, buy and play it. Don't lie to yourself.

P.S. HL1 is still good, just a bit frustrating.
